UFC 110 Results: Mirko Cro Cop Filipovic Slashes Anthony Perosh to Ribbons

Photo by Dan Herbertson via Sherdog

In the opening fight of UFC 110, the first ever Ultimate Fighting Championship held in Australia, MMA legend Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic thoroughly dominated his over-matched opponent Anthony Perosh. The fight ended when Cro Cop opened a ginormous gash on the Australian's forehead that covered the Octagon with blood.

Perosh, the local, came into the fight as a last-minute substitute for Ben Rothwell. The legendary Cro Cop came into the fight with many asking whether or not his heart was still in the fight game after a string of lackluster performances. Bloody Elbow's Luke Thomas said of the fight, "CroCop's going to murder him and if he doesn't, (he) should retire."

Cro Cop stalked his prey from the beginning firing aggressively. When Perosh shot in for a single leg take down, Cro Cop easily stuffed it and locked up Perosh in a head lock. He then tagged the Australian and followed him down with more punches. Perosh survived but just took more punishments for his troubles. A bloodied Perosh, with a visibly busted nose, was repeatedly beaten down throughout the first round and then invited to stand back up for more by the brutal Croatian.

Filipovic began the second stalking his man down and firing with piston-like uppercuts. Perosh shot again only to be stuffed and beaten on the ground before being brought back to his feet. Then Cro Cop fired off a brutal elbow that immediately opened up a huge gash on Perosh's forehead. Cro Cop immediately stopped attacking his opponent and let Herb Dean call a stop for a doctor's examination of Perosh.

They restarted the action somehow and Cro Cop resumed the beating he had been delivering to a now blood covered Perosh. It wasn't long before Herb Dean stepped in and stopped the action.

Mirko is as classy as they get, can’t help but respect the dude just for that characteristic. Perosh definitely showed balls, but got completely thrown in the deep end.

Idea

If I was UFC, I’d keep Perosh for a couple more fights. See how he does when he’s had time to train for an opponent of UFC caliber. Throwing him in the deep end with CC, and last almost 3 rounds. Not bad for first huge fight on PPV

This wasn't Perosh's UFC debut

he already had two fights in the UFC with proper training camps and lost them both definitively.

Yeah, honestly, as GSP would say, “I’m not impressed with your performance” Big Ben probably would have torn him up….

This fight turned out just about how I thought it would, hopefully Perosh gets another fight he showed guts even though he was clearly overmatched by CC.

I’m not sure if CroCop was being conservative with the kicks in this fight because he was fighting a BJJ guy and saw no reason to let him into the fight or if he’s simply developed an aversion to letting the legs fly. Still he smashed him a can, although I wish it had been in a more highlight reel than workman like fashion.

anytime crocop can hit a guy at willl with his left hand he doesnt kick.

to be honest i feel like cro cop felt bad for the guy thats why he didnt KTFO him with the headkick. If you saw as soon as cro cop cut Perosh he got up off him and put his hands up almost like “hey you should take a look at him”.

the headkick KO was there for the taking the whole fight.

I think people need to get off of this whole LHK thing with Mirko. He has spoiled us over the years with these finishes, and in reality LHK KO’s are semi-rare at the top end of the sport. People know he is looking for a LHK, and they defend all the more deligently to avoid it.

I’m just looking forward to seeing him stepping up in competition, and would love to see him rematch Nog now.
