I can’t wait to see Marquardt fight again. It seems like forever since we’ve seen him fight. It seems like the Maia fight doesn’t really count as a fight. I’m pretty sure he didn’t break a sweat in that one.
He still had a vaseline on his eyebrows after that KO :)

Seriously, he had this big chunk of vaseline on his face. I even remember Stitch’s sad face when he saw it.

BTW, what’s with Oregon politics and Republican fighters?
I dunno what exactly you’re referring to, but Oregon is a funny place. The entire state is conservative except for Portland, Salem, and Eugene. Which are more populated so liberals tend to control the place. The cowboys and good ol boys don’t like it that much.
I’m in Seattle and I gotta admit I’m not really into Oregon liberals much. There’s a self-righteousness that tastes gross there, and for some reason they love having bureaucratic politicians tell them everything they’re supposed to do. Seattle isn’t much better, but it’s always a relief when I come home for some reason. I might be overreacting.
Matt Lindland also ran for Rep. in Oregon.

I ain’t commenting on the politics, but Portland is still one of the coolest, most underrated cities around.

I think everyone wanted to see if either fighter would break a hip during training.

haha. It's actually a solid card. I know the main event is getting some hate but...
… it should be a good night of fights.

I agree. The only thing i dont like is that if Randy wins he will get a title shot, and if Mark wins he will not.

Randy has continued to be in the spotlight but Coleman is mainly known to hardcores.

My main point (i think) is that neither one of them deserve it.

I know what you meant but I don’t think he’ll a title shot until next year. The winner of Evans/Rampage will get the winner of Machida/Shogun in the fall.
Then there’s Lil Nog/Forrest and Vera/Jones.
If Randy gets a title show, it will be towards the end of his contract next year. He’ll lose but it will be a cool way to wrap up his career as a fighter in the UFC. I think he wants to go fight Fedor when his contract is up. Hope not.

Joe Rogan said Coleman could get a title shot and I’m holding that fucker to it.

When Mark Coleman becomes LHW champion and cements himself as the greatest fighter of all time I will re-enact his GP celebration in whatever bar I am watching the fight in.
I’m guessing with the long layoff between events and the fact that no one bought 108, people are itching to buy an UFC ppv again.

I think they should be more careful about showing Coleman training. There’s a video of him running, where he looks like he’s sucking wind pretty bad. Same with his stirking in the official preview…
he looked awfully stiff during that run
And his punching is still very looping and un-crisp. He’s a tough dude and may give Couture a handful, but I don’t see him winning this at all.

I love that Coleman is finally getting some dap
Dana put it best that Coleman did great things when nobody was watching, so its cool to see that in the twilight of his career Coleman can make some money and get some recognition by the modern fans who follow what is now an established sport he helped build.
I’ll be rooting for the Hammer!
What would have happened if Coleman-Rua II went to the judges? He might have won that fight,

Sure! If he bribed the judges…
Or if they fought in Virginia

What kind of matches should be Main Events?
I just recently re-watched The Smashing Machine and I’m definitely more excited about this event than I was initially. I still don’t really see either Coleman or Couture as being in the title picture, but it this match has me re-thinking my beliefs about what a main event should be. I generally think they should be reserved for title matches or matches with title significance, but I think there is a place for matches which are worth seeing for though own sake, or for there historical interest independent of what it means for a particular divisions pecking order.
I feel for The Hammer
I really feel like the win for Mark would be much more significant that Randy. Dana put it best, Randy can just weight jump until he finds someone to keep beating. Mark Coleman deserves so much respect, and as much as I love both of them, I am rooting for The Hammer to win.
I'm from Canada, and they think I'm slow eh!
I second this. Who doesn’t like Couture, but at the same time, Coleman’s got mouths to feed and needs the money more.

Swicks comment was great
“I have to admit, his segment was badass! I’m in the gym with blondie and Fitch and he’s rapelling out of Helos with an M4. Damn you Thiago!”
How badass is Paulo Thiago, seriously? The guy can honestly get killed at his crime fighting job, so I can only imagine that fighting just one other guy in a cage with no outside weapons, at least the mental part of it, is nothing to him.
they have a very low death rate, they go in to kill and not to be killed.

yeah, like american SWAT. they have a super low death rate.

what is it like in the SWAT btw? I was reading an article and the last time someone died in action from BOPE was in 98 (In Rio, not sure what it is for Brasilia which is where Paulo is from).

It sounds like BOPE is Brazil’s equivalent.
On February 7, 2008 a siege and subsequent fire fight with a gunman in Winnetka, California led to the first line-of-duty death of a member of the LAPD’s SWAT team in its 41 years of existence.5

in that case it’s a better ratio than BOPE, they only been active since the 1980s :p

ahaha….I’ve got Thiago as the favorite in this fight. Swick is good but Thiago has more tools.

I’m pulling for him too, IMO he doesn’t have crispy striking skills but is very heavy handed and does present problems with his unorthodox style. His BJJ is not superb but I think it’s enough to dominate should the fight go to the ground.

That’s actually something I was wondering about, what’s his bjj pedigree? I know he’s a bjj black belt but not all black belts are created equal.

As a bettor, the Coleman portion of the promo didn’t instill a lot of faith…he runs like a wounded animal. Hope he wins though.
What if Coleman breaks Randy’s arm the same way he did to Shogun?
