If someone was going to get submitted in this fight
I’d bet a lot of money on it being Roy submitting Struve.

The only way you would think otherwise, is if you were brainwashed by Dana’s Roy shit talking in TUF10.

Nelson did NOT submit Mir
He beat him on points. Nothing personal…I’m just annoyed with folks constantly referring to Nelson submitting Mir at a grappling tournament when it never happened.
He submited Vera and then beat Mir and Diego on points in a one-day tournament.

Sorry, confused the MIr and Vera matches. Either way, his credentials can’t be passed over. Mir, Vera, and Diego are all tops.

Oh, certainly
I didn’t mean to take away from Nelson’s grappling credentials…I just wanted to correct an error that’s pretty common on MMA sites.

For anyone interested in seeing the match they also have the Sanchez vs Nelson one. I wish I could find footage from Nelson vs Vera because unless my memory fails me he won via double kneebar.
by Lyrias on Feb 2, 2010 5:17 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
It was a regular kneebar
he just had his arm around the other leg as well:

I saw the Mir vs Nelson grappling match, and Mir was dominating until it looked like he just gassed.
by chrisbboy82 on Feb 2, 2010 4:59 PM EST up reply actions 0 recs
Well to be fair, even competing against Mir in a grappling tourney is impressive.
Giving Shogun his props. I had the fight 48-47 Machida but Shogun put up a monumental performance and I am honored to have seen it in person.

competing?
Sure, but he also won by a 15-2 score if memory serves.

Great test for Struve.
Nelson is brilliant on the ground, but that’s also been Struve’s forte so far. Will Struve learn from the Buentello fight and not be so reckless on his feet? Roy has a lot more power than you’d think from looking at him.
I think Nelson has to be the favourite in this fight.
I like using semi-colons; they make me feel smart.

If I were making a line for this fight I’d go Nelson -165, Struve +135

Further apart. Nelson has power in his strikes and Struve showed that he doesn’t know how to use his reach to keep a smaller striker away from him. Nelson is very hard to take down, and has an advantage in skill on the ground. And for all Struve’s length provides him with opportunities for triangles, armbars, etc., against a skilled power grappler (who is likely to rotund for even Struve to put in a body triangle), his length will also be a disadvantage in that there’s more of him to grab ahold of. Struve will have to make a major jump in skill from his last fight to this one to have a chance.

once struve gains 40 lbs he'll be a force
hes just too skinny and weak at this point

struve took a solid shot to the face from buentello and was knocked down and then recovered
and won the fight. i don’t think roy nelson can hit as hard a p.b imo. i say s. struve by triangle choke. i think struve will be more of an +175.

Curious to see how Struve’s submission game fares against Nelson’s great top control. Also curious to see if Struve’s striking has evolved to use his considerable reach as to be effective against an underrated striker like Nelson.

Roy Nelson is the best troll
Struve really needs to escape the clutches of Dirty Bob and join Golden Glory. Definitely an intriguing bit of matchmaking, should be a really fun fight no matter where it goes.

No way he should ditch the GG training regime. That scrawny frame just screams for horsemeat.

Struve is so fascinating in that he is a very decent grappler, yet his camp is run by the only man to ever be tapped by Wandy. I cannot imagine how much better he would be if he spent a year under the GG banner.

wish he was fighting toney
i wanna see toney get submitted via bellyfat

Yes
I would def like to see Toney get stuck in a belly crucifix and have the ref stop the fight due to Roy’s chinese water torture punches.

I always get the impression Roy tries to be this funny fat dude.
Instead, he’s just a fat dude. Skilled, but not funny.

I’m a huge Struve fan. When I heard he signed with the UFC I knew we were in for some exciting submissions. The dude’s young and talented. I think he has something like 14 out of 17 or 18 wins by submission. But in his earlier fights he was too reminiscent of Corey Hill. Too tall and not enough muscle mass. And it’s shown in the Dos Santos fight and most recently in the Buentello fight. Although he did look a little bit bigger against Paul. He’s since said he will be adding more mass and that will only make him that much more dangerous. Check out some of his fights on mmalinker.com. His submissions are some of the slickest possible at HW. I fully expect struve to take what ever Fatboy has to give, provided Roy can get in close enough, and to dish out enough to either TKO Roy or get him to the ground and take his back for the RNC.

You’ll be eating that hat unless Struve makes the same mistake he did against P.B. and try for the RNC with HIS back against the cage. He does that and Struve’s not submitting anyone.

That was pretty embarassing seeing a talented submission artist not realized he won’t get the submission being as tall and lankey as he is while going for the RNC with his back against the cage.

![Ross Pearson -200 talks Dennis Siver +165:
"I’d seen Dennis fight before quite a few times and most recently at the UFC 105 card in Manchester. His name got the heart racing a bit. He’s a good fighter and dangerous. He’s got one-punch power, fast hands, and he’s powerful and explosive. He’s a very skilful fighter. A lot of other fighters at this stage in their career might try and avoid a fighter like Siver. I’m just excited to prepare for a guy like him. It doesn’t scare me."
"I’m really confident of beating Siver, but I just feel he’s got a bit more of a danger factor than [Aaron] Riley did," admits Pearson.
"Siver is ranked number two in Europe and I’m at number three. I’m a little bit younger than him, but we’re both at a stage now where we want to step up in competition and start mixing it with the big names in big fights. We’re meeting at a great stage in our careers and this fight will ultimately prove which of us is ready to break into the big time first."
