Snapshot of the Day: Mark Coleman and His RTX Cooling Glove

In case you were wondering what Mark Coleman was using in his video interviews, it's an RTX Cooling Glove. Read more about it here:
RTX promises to enhance human performance. Cooling does mimic steroids in the way it allows an athlete to recover from intense exertion quickly, allowing someone to do more work in a shorter period of time.

Interesting, and here I thought he was a hand model on the run…

so… based off this machine’s design, i get the same effect by working in my basement that is like 45 degrees? the dumbbells are freezing cold, so it’s like i have two gloves, right?

It’s like when Wandy did the icebath. It essentially sucks all the lactic acid and headed blood out of the system which allows for greater recovery times. I do the same in the summer after working out. My gym is on the beach so I just jump in the ocean. NJ ocean in June is about 60degrees.

doesn’t drinking cold water cool you from the inside? i’m just skeptical about the million and one devices that will make your work out SO much more effective. i understand some things will help, but it just seems to me that alot of people want to find a way to work less hard, sweat less, and have a shorter work out. but no pill, and no device replaces hard work

In reality, this is one of those great inventions that you could mimic by just putting an icepack on the back of your neck or on your wrists.
As for working out in your 45degree basement your body could go through a lot of stress because it’ll have a harder time keeping the muscles warm and that’s how injuries occur.

i over heat easily and get wicked if i work out in even room temperature, thats why i work out in such a cold environment. plus it helps keep my winter gas bill low :D

I remember reading about this in Wired a few years back. The army was actually working on this. It’s a bit more complicated than that, if I remember correctly it has a vaccuum that draws the veins closer to the surface and focuses the cooling right there. The army wanted to miniaturize it so troops would be able to run longer without getting exhausted, but as shown it’s pretty damn big.

No, this is actually true. Same as putting a cold compress on the back of your neck to cool you down, your wrists are another good area to put cold compresses to cool down.

Yeah, you gotta wonder if he couldn't just stick his hand in an ice bucket.
Oh well, like someone said above could be more of a placebo effect. The mind is a powerful thing..

He’s probably being sponsored to show it off in as many interviews as he can. Give it a bit of publicity from a big name and see if they can flog a few to MMA wannabes.
Right, I doubt he’s just carrying it around everywhere cuz he thinks it’s neat.
And I’m sure Cofield said something inappropriate about what he’d do to Arianny with that thing.

Hey Randy, Mark sees your XCAP supplements and bloodtesting, and raises you an RTX Cooling glove!

This bothers me a little bit. It’s like saying he is cheating but it’s not roids..
I was thinking that… and had an image of Coleman being back on ’roids and planning to use this in a Sherk style defense.
I dont know what is bothering me more...
The way it is written:
Lots of things can emulate other illegal activities, though, this is written to specifically relate this technique to riods.
OR
The way it reads (which is different):
Some normal slum would read this and think Coleman it trying to cheat..
i think its a way to market it. would you rather compare something to creatine or to roids? creatine is legal, if i want creatine, i’ll go buy it. but roids have a mystique about them because they are forbidden. who doesnt want something they cant have?

Ah, the handshake test.
During a random handshake, Coleman tested positive for blood cooling glove use.
It’s the same idea as a cold pack on the back of your neck or an ice bath, in that it cools down your core body temperature, but it has to clear advantages over both. The glove cools down your hand, which then circulates the cooled-down blood to your heart which in turn is circulated to the rest of your body.
The ice bath is probably only something you can do after your workout is over, whereas you can use the glove during your workout in between sets or exercises. I can guarantee the ice bath isn’t nearly as convenient or portable as the glove and it sounds as if the ice pack on the back of the next might not be as effective (smaller surface area to cool down the blood rapidly).
All in all this thing sounds pretty amazing, it even has some legitimate potential applications in the medical field.
Yep, I said this above. The other disadvantage of the Icebath is that it can cause shock to your system. Unless you have a spotter, you can cause a ton of damage cause you’re system can start to shutdown.

cool
Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them -- a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have last-minute stamina, they have to be a little faster, they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.

Ugh.
Some day this whole fake-science thing is going to start catching up with us.

And you would know this how exactly? Sounds like you didn’t even read the article. They have conducted a study (or studies) and were published in the Journal of Applied Physiology.
Oh gosh, if it was published in a JOURNAL, it must be true.
I mean, it’s not like the majority of peer-reviewed original research published nowadays turns out to be wrong.
My wife is a researcher. When she reads an article like this she checks out:
- The reputation of the journal in question (What’s your opinion on the quality of other papers published at JAP?)
- The reputation of the paper itself, if it’s been cited (Any cites for this one? Did you look? Depending on the field, a lot of work can take place at the working paper stage.)
- The reputation of the authors (How well cited are they?)
- The reputation of the papers they cite (Are they using trusted sources for their background material? Are those papers in good journals? Are they cited frequently?)
AND THIS IS BEFORE SHE EVEN READS THE PAPER.
After that she looks at their testing methodology and statistical analysis. THEN if the rest of all that stuff seems reputable, she checks the actual work.
So before you get all high and mighty, how many of those steps did you do?
And how man Ab-Flexinators have you bought?

I hear the ab-flexinator is scientifically proven to be 6 times as effective, in as little as half the time.

i can see yamasaki checking him for “weapons” before he steps in the cage. “uh whats this?” “its to keep my core temperature down during the fight, it’s like steroids” … “i’ll allow it”

the only problem is...
coleman cant find a syringe big enough to fit this thing in so he can shoot it into his ass.
Can we just have these two fight in hyperbaric robot suits and be done with it?
Sure glad Lesnar got his shit straightened out.

is your corner allowed to bring something like this into the ring for the minute?
its just cold water and something you hold onto
That would be awesome.
