Quote of the Day: Georges St. Pierre Talks Gegard Mousasi

"I see myself (in Mousasi). But two weight classes above. He's a great fighter. He's very open-minded. He's amazing. He taught me two great techniques. Those two things I learned today are worth my whole trip. I'm very happy, and I'm going to be working on it a lot."

"If I could have a choice between money, fame or wisdom and knowledge, I would take wisdom first, without hesitation. I'm already a better fighter than I was before the practice. I have more knowledge."
-- Georges St. Pierre feels like he'll never know enough about mixed martial arts.

GSP just keeps getting better, did anyonme notice when he was training with marquardt, he wasnt even half trying but taking nate down at will, yet nate going full out couldnt touch him once.

I’d really love to see if GSP can go up a division …nothing else for him in welterweight

by JoelMan on Feb 2, 2010 2:54 PM EST up reply actions

I’d give him a “warm up” fight , Sonnen or Okami (which would be a big PPV) and take it from there .

What’s scary is this is just the beginning for MMA. And one day we’ll be talking about how GSP wasn’t good enough and was still not as skilled as “new fighter”. Like every facet has evolved and that’s scary.

This is true, however if GSP is smart and goes out before he is past his prime...

then there is a great chance he will be that forever legend like some boxers from the early 1900s.

by Razreshat on Feb 2, 2010 9:29 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah, but hopefully not too early like Genki Sudo. His skills are soooo far ahead of the curve which is incredible, but one day there will be a fighter who’s waaaaaay more advanced. That’s a scary thought. Grapplers are doing crazy shit that you would never have seen 5 years ago. That’s why I get excited about this sport.

I sometimes think that watching GSP now must be like watching Rocket Richard in the early 50s. Which just gets me so excited thinking of what a Bobby Orr, Wayne Gretzky, or Alex Ovechkin might be like.

That’s what I’m saying…he’s doing some really gnarly shit but like you’re already seeing more advanced grappling. You aren’t going to see advances in Boxing but you will with combos and takedowns and bjj. FUCKING RIDICULOUS.

Not a gsp fan but he is pretty classy

I love GSP

but it’s pretty gross that he “sees’ himself in mousasi” ;-)

Oh, yes, Meg, yes-yes yes, everything was going swimmingly for you until this. Yes, yes, THIS is the thing that will ruin your reputation, not your years of grotesque appearance, or your awkward social graces, or that Felix Ungerish way you clear your sinuses, no no no, it's THIS. Do you hear yourself talk? I might kill you tonight.

In related news, Dan Hardy hates Gegard Mousasi.

Hardy will wrestle him down. lol

They’re wearing All Access passes at a StrikeForce Event? It’s GSP & Mousasi… I wouldn’t have thought they needed those. Maybe GSP… cuz he’s with the competition, but Gegard is their champion.

by LORENZO. on Feb 2, 2010 9:51 AM EST reply actions

Even the people who work for Strikeforce don’t know who he is.

by ufc4 on Feb 2, 2010 10:48 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

You really have to pick on this? This is for the security that work the corral and the backstage area, you’d be surprised who they do and do not recognize.

by allelbows on Feb 2, 2010 7:06 PM EST up reply actions

I hope him and Gegard become real good friends.

Just makes it more likely he’ll end up in the UFC :)

Two great techniques? Probably some jab work and an insight into how Fedor maintains his “walking corpse” demeanor.

Ribbit.

Sounds like the GSP-Mousasi partnership may last beyond the next 2 weeks. Those guys becoming even part time training partners would be incredible for both. GSP already is learning things, and Mousasi can certainly benefit from the technical training GSP has (espeically wrestling). Both guys are just going to be even scarier and more well rounded in the future.

Look at him in that picture.

He, a Welterweight, is basically the same size as Mousasi, a Light Heavyweight.

No doubt that GSP will be in the Middleweight division before very long.

by Razreshat on Feb 2, 2010 10:31 AM EST up reply actions

Pictures can be a bit deceiving. Mousasi has a good 3 inches in height in GSP, and is thicker and a bit broader. GSP always looks larger in clothes than he truly is because he’s got broad shoulders and is obviously very muscular.
