Frank Mir -165 says he has the striking and jiu-jitsu edges, Shane Carwin +135 responds:
"I think I have what it takes to win the fight standing or through ground and pound. He is going to be looking for mistakes and openings for his submissions. It will be a true honor to test myself against Frank."
"Frank Mir's trash talk won't affect me at all. I really do not pay a lot of attention to smack talk. Whatever my opponent needs to do to get themselves ready to fight me is fine. At the end of the night the better fighter (that evening) should have his hand raised and really that is all I care about. I have a lot of respect for Frank as a fighter and as a MMA professional. I have a long ways to go to be on his Hall of Fame level so whatever he says is likely justified."

Carwin seems like such a great guy and I would love to see him win this one, but, me thinks Mir wins anyway he wants.

His obsession with BROCKLESNAR ! will give Mir the edge , great matchups at HW lately

agreed
“Swerve me? The path to BROCKLESNAR is laid with iron rails, whereon my soul is grooved to run. Over unsounded gorges, through the rifled hearts of mountains, under torrents’ beds, unerringly I rush! Naught’s an obstacle, naught’s an angle to the iron way!”
Quite the contrast to how Carwin talked about Lesnar.
From the UFC’s perspective, I bet they’d prefer Carwin trade jabs with Mir and create some heat for this fight, since coupled with GSP-Hardy and the Primetime series, that could produce huge PPV #s. Maybe it will do huge #s either way.
Quite the contrast to how Carwin talked about Lesnar
I think that is because Mir earned respect before he started talking.
Lesnar started talking before he beat Mir
…and his actions after the fight turned a lot of people off…
Since when is saying you are better than your opponent “trash talk.”
Mir says Kongo has a bad ground game, which he does, and he gets slammed for it? I don’t get it.
that didn't work for some reason
http://www.mmafighting.com/2009/12/10/cheick-kongo-promises-payback-for-frank-mirs-verbal-warfare/
and people on the forum called him a cocky dick, etc. for stating the obvious
Eff that guy anyway
I always felt the Kongo was a dirty fighter after kneeing Cro Cop and Herring in the groin on more than one occasion. I took a lot of pleasure in seeing Mir choke him unconscious.
Get rid of the ramp!
You know....
Personally, I think Carwin is giving Frank Mir too much respect for this fight. People are saying that Carwin is humble. I don’t doubt it, but I personally think that he might be a little star struck here. Hey, a little trash talk never hurt no body. Plus, I think Carwin needs to be a little more intimidating to Frank Mir. Mir tries to play the head games. I just think that Carwin needs to put the good guy act aside for this fight, and play head games too. EVERYONE knows that this is all part of the game.
Carwin criticized Lesnar for his post fight antics and all, but in reality, Lesnar is not that bad of a person. It’s just that when it comes to fighting, and when it’s time to step into the ring, Lesnar…snaps! lol
I’m starting to get that feeling that the outcome is going to be similar to that of GSP vs. Hughes (The first fight). GSP was praising Matt Hughes saying how much he respected him, how he was his idol, how it was an honor, etc…..and he received an honorable loss via submission in Rd. 1. Then came the rematch, and I distinctly remember GSP saying that he gave Matt Hughes too much respect. What happened 2nd and 3rd fight? He destroyed his idol, the legend, etc. etc.
In the fight game, you can’t really give your opponent tons of respect. Respect him as a human, but intimidation is a part of the mental aspect of fighting. Then in the ring, impose your will.
If I were Carwin, I’d be letting Frank know that his words could be very threatening to him….just as Lesnar did in their second fight… :)
I do think that Carwin respects Mir a lot because of what he’s achieved, how he’s still growing as a fighter and how he came back from what should have been a career ending injury.
Quite frankly, I don’t know how anyone couldn’t respect him for those things alone, regardless of your feelings about his attitude.
Get rid of the ramp!
I think he's taking the "blow-smoke-up-your-opponent's-ass" route
A lot of this doesn’t really seem sincere to me. It’s almost like he’s trying to feed into Mir’s egotism with the goal of goading Mir into becoming overconfident or complacent
Goldie: "Michael Jordan-esque in his grappling skills is Travis Lutter."
Rogan: "No, no he's not. No."
Mir is a Hall of Famer?
This is news to me!

How is he not!? At this point in time I would put money on Mir vs anyone! Yes even the immortal Russian Cyborg.

I see Mir getting his head knocked off.....
I don’t think Carwin is going to win golden gloves anytime soon, but Mir thinks he’s a Muy Thai expert now. Carwin will catch him.
Mir wins this one.
I expect another submission win for Mir. I don’t think this will be a long fight.
You have to be the man... you have to be very, like, alpha male with her. You know? Decide what you do and everything. So, show her who's the boss, you know? - GSP
Carwin is a at a pretty high level in BJJ himself, I mean he isn’t the a submission artist, but he do knows how to avoid being submitted. I see carwin winning this fight by KO, first round, Frank doesn’t like to get hit and Carwin is going to hit him really hard, a lot harder than Brock did, we’re talking one punch good night.
