Mirko Cro Cop cut in a pre-fight sparring, requires stitches:
"Croatian website MMA Axion reported this morning that Filipovic was sparring with his team mate Sasa Mucnjak when he received a bad cut above the eyeline. The cut was stitched and Filipovic has declined to pull out of the fight, saying he will not let weeks of hard preparation go to waste."

The UFC is going to let him start a fight with a cut?
On one hand, it should be his decision. They let fights continue all the time with cuts, why not start with one? What’s the difference?
On the other hand, isn’t that unheard of? Would it hurt the UFCs credibility?

Not unheard of at all actually. Boxing and MMA both have stitched fighters compete quite often. Cuts don’t stop fights for existing. They stop fights due to blood causing lack of vision. If the cut opens and he can’t see…the fight will get stopped just the same. It’s not really a safety concern at all.

I’ll have to remember who it was but I can remember at least one fight where a guy had stitches but it was a cut up along the hairline not on the eyebrow

damn
hopefully he can still pull off the vicious KO!

I wonder if he would have still been facing Rothwell, would he have pulled out?

I was wondering the same thing?
Cro Cop doesn’t seem like a guy to miss an easy payday. My guess is that he pulls out of this fight if it were Rothwell.

Errr, let’s remember that it was ROTHWELL that pulled out.

doubt it, just because of the hard training he’s put in. hopefully can win this fight with a quick KO and get on the boston card!

Wow i think mirko knew that that would have been the end of him in the ufc so he prolly begged dana to let him fight with the cut. Mirko was gonna prolly have enough problems mentaly without a disadvantage going into the fight now with the cut if he doesn’t win in the first 2 min he will crumble. I predict this is his last pay check from the ufc unless he gets a quick ko in nasty fasion.
Ben Rothwell has been sidelined by an illness, forcing him out of his bout with Mirko Cro Cop. Australian veteran Anthony Perosh will step in to face Mirko Cro Cop.
dont forget, he’s fighting a guy who had 1 days notice

If the fight doesn’t go like this: Body Kick, Body Kick, Straight, Left High Kick…I’m over crocop.

If I'm Perosh...
my gameplan just became “sprint in to try and get a clinch and wing elbows at stitches” If he can get them to open up…he could win without really doing anything.

greatest game plan ever. Does CroCop get cut (from the UFC) if he loses via cut?

Unfortuanately for my compadre, but if anyone loses to Perosh in the UFC, they don’t deserve to be there.
Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.
I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.
This does even the playing field just a litle bit.

exactly right jemaleddin if he somehow losses this dam figh that is set up now for him to end with a brutal KO that DAM WAR Wagon should be retired with a RPG.
All in all I am kind of disapointed he will not be fighting Rothwell. I think Rothwells style fits right into a CroCop Smashing. It was for sure W for CroCop and now this fight now proves nothing. Only bad shit can happen in a fight like this for Mirko. If he is going to get one LHK KO highlight in the UFC this should be that fight ?
Then get off now!

Luckily I’ve never been on it so I haven’t had my heart broken after all his fights over the past few years.

Mirko, what the F are you doing sparring hard enough to get cut the day before a fight? put on a freakin’ headgear and bigger gloves once you get to fight week. this should not happen. what if you actually got rocked or even KO’d the day before a fight? would you go in risking a second concussion in 2 days? WTF?
that being said, at least he’s pushing through it.

Speaking of pre-fight concussions
Forest looked pretty bad going into his fight with Anderson (cuts all over his face, eyes glossed over).. I wouldn’t be surprised if that same thing happened to him.
This probably happens more than we’d imagine.
i hope not
that would make it a lot harder to argue that MMA fighters aren’t going to end up all braindead like football players and boxers. one of the main things that leads to brain issues a bit later in life is repeated concussions in a short time period. even if there isn’t a second actual concussion, any blows to the head while the first concussion is still clearing up have the potential to be much more damaging than if there hadn’t been a recent concussion. note that i’m not a doctor, i’ve just read a lot of literature about the concussion thing since it came to the forefront in the NFL.

LOL
I can only imagine the stream of F-bombs and obscenities spewing from Dana’s mouth as he gets more and more bad news concerning this card. I’d hate to be his assistant right now.

You should go watch
the movie “The Great Buck Howard” with John Malkovich. That’s probably similar to what it’d be like being Dana’s assistant.
I’ll try to find it, any movie with Malkovich is cool with me.

terrible news!
Neither CroCop nor the UFC seem to be able to catch a break lately.

Cro Cop is fighting some guy named Perosh instead of Rothwell, seems like a pretty damn good break to me.

Food for thought...
This does not sound like a man who’s fighting spirit has been broken. In a fight where he has SO MUCH TO LOSE now, especially with the laaaaaaate replacement. If he loses here, he’s done. Unless he looks good, and somehow the cut comes undone in a exchange or something.
I was picking Rothwell before the replacement, but now, with this, I have to think CroCop just might come out firing on all cylinders, at least this once.

This is getting fucking ridiculous. The fact that the UFC is willing to let this utterly non-competitive match happen and let Cro-Cop fight with fresh stitches is laughable. An athletic commission would NEVER have approved this fight, especially now.
This is some full-on Strikeforce shit right here.
And I’m STILL just heartbroken about the Sinosic/Haseman fight being cancelled. Fight of the year, gone, just like that….
