Quote of the Day: Michael Bisping Says "Rampage Thinks I Will Beat Wanderlei Easily"

"I was listening to Wanderlei talk about how he’ll use the Henderson blueprint to beat me and knock me out... well I am going to use the Henderson blueprint to knock him out. Henderson knocked him out just as badly as he did me."

"I was embarrassed, I was humbled by Henderson – knocked out in front of millions of people - and I took a good hard look at myself and realised I needed to change a few things in my defence."

"I’m extremely grateful to Rampage [Jackson] for coming over to Widnes for the last week of my camp in the UK, and for coming to Australia for two weeks and agreeing to work my corner on the night."

"We have a clear game plan but discussions and tips from Rampage, about Wanderlei’s movement and shots, have inspired me and kept confidence high. I’ve also sparred with Rampage, who is a heavy puncher, and that has given me confidence. Rampage thinks I will beat Wanderlei easily."
-- Michael Bisping talks about the "perfect preparation" for facing Wanderlei Silva in Sydney.

I also think this is one of the reasons why Wandy has this beef with Bisping because Rampage is a Wolfslair guy.

Bisping talks like having Rampage in his corner will help

screaming “GET HIM OFF YOU” “TAKE HIM DOWN” “PUNCH HIM!!!” etc. isn’t exactly top flight coaching. In fact, I would not have even mentioned it, but maybe Mike was so embarrassed about the KO that he didn’t even watch TUF 10.

KO Power

If you look at Wand’s according to Fight Finder you’ll notice the only guys to knock him out are fighters with established knockout power, i.e. Belfort, Cro Cop, Hendo, and Jackson.

by KahilBS_Marshal on Feb 18, 2010 2:31 PM EST reply actions

How about this, then:

By the numbers:

Hendo has 11 KOs in 32 fights. 34%
Page has 14 KOs in 37 fights. 37%
Vitor has 13 KOs in 27 fights. 48%
Wandy has 22 KOs in 44 fights. 50%
Cro Cop has 19 Kos in 35 fights. 54%
Bisping has 11 KOs in 20 fights. 55%

Now obviously, fights aren’t all created equal. And one win isn’t the same as another. But if you don’t punish Bisping for his shorter career and look at the percentages, he’s got a better chance of winning by knockout than Wandy does.

Now tell everyone else around here to stop being wrong on the Internet. I’m losing sleep!

Don't believe a word I say, I don't train BJJ.

Most of bispings “kos” where tkos and against people who were a level below him. the only guys who were on the same level of him that he beat was denis kang and Hammil (that one was questionable). Hendo, and rashad both beat him and his MW wins are nothing to brag about. Charles Mac, leban and Jason day (kang being the best win). Truth is Bisping does not do well against guys when he does not have control of the tempo. Bisping shows some nice come back against Kang but i bet money that if Wand lays a hand on him like kang there will be no second round brain fart.

Rampage should know...

by Roll for Life on Feb 19, 2010 11:45 AM EST up reply actions

I doubt he remembers much of the first two fights. Even his win wasn’t because of any brilliant gameplan- its because he has great boxing, and can throw a hook that I’ve no reason to think Michael Bisping is remotely capable of throwing. And yes, Bisping is a solid boxer, but not in the same way.

In either case, it sounds like they’d each rather have Hendo in their corner :)

How can it be any clearer?

Any advantage gained by Rampage’s experience fighting Wandy is instantly negated by the fact that Rampage is one of the worst coaches/corners in the history of MMA.

Also, Rampage’s hook that would have knocked out Jesus isn’t exactly in Bisbings skill set, so Rampage’s plan doesn’t look too great either.

My only question about this comment is has Bisbing actually watched Wandy fight Hendo, I mean has he watched the fight? It was a war, a war that had Hendo knocked silly on more than one occasion. Does Bisbing really thing his fight against Hendo was anything even close to Wandy’s fight with Hendo?

WORD

Bisbing will get ktfo if he gets in there and exchanges with Wand….a Wand knee to the chin would be funny bc then Wand can point to rampage and be like “you what that feels like”

The best thing you could do for your friend is to tell them that he’s got this easy. There’s really no such thing as over-confidence and thinking that fighting a guy like Wand is going to be easy is the exact edge you need to get the win. Well done Rampage.
