Filipino MMA: Eduard Folayang to Headline URCC XVI This March
URCC Welterweight Champion, and the Philippines' top MMA fighter, Eduard Folayang (5-1), will be headlining URCC XVI: Reckoning on March 27. The news was exclusively confirmed to us by Team Lakay President and head coach, Mark Sangiao. According to him, Folayang will be fighting again at 155 lbs and will be facing a yet to be announced opponent from Korea.
Folayang, who is also one of the best Wushu fighters in the world, will look to get back on his winning ways after suffering his first career loss on the hands of Jon Tuck (5-0) last November. We will keep you updated as more details on his opponent become available.
More Filipino MMA news in the extended entry.
In other news, tonight, the URCC will host another event on Team Lakay's home base of Baguio city. The event entitled URCC Baguio II: Tribal Wars will feature several of the province's MMA prospects including a number fighters from the Lakay Wushu camp. The card, which is headlined by prospects George Lusadan and Leonard Kaliwa, will also feature the first women's MMA bout in the country as the undefeated Muay Thai fighter, Sonrex Patanao faces Wushu Gold Medalist, Gina 'Conviction' Iniong, who aptly shares the same nickname with Gina Carano, the face of women's MMA.
The URCC usually sets up smaller shows on the various provinces in the country in hopes of finding new talent from the area worthy to perform on the 'bigger stage', and this one will be no different. Our source says that barring injuries, some of the winners of their respective bouts could be fighting again on the URCC XVI card. Team Lakay, and Baguio City, already houses multiple current and former URCC title holders, and this event could very well be the place they find and showcase their future champions.

Good to hear Folayang is back, any word on if he’s looking to avenge his loss against Tuck anytime soon?
I don't know really.
But I think he’ll probably get another bout outside the URCC after this one, so maybe…
That was a weird loss though, we weren’t really able to see or learn much about the skills of either fighter, nor did that help much on seeing what holes should Folayang be trying to fix up.

nothing yet.
the fight hasn’t been announced by the URCC, and Team Lakay doesn’t even know the opponent’s name yet. But I will keep you guys posted. :)

WAR/GIYERA
Doesn’t really make sense when you translate it in Filipino. Well on second thought, it also doesn’t in English. Haha.
