In case you missed it the first time.

Big Nog talks about the Randy Couture fight:
"It was so loud, 14 thousand people screaming, I couldn’t hear my corner. Then I hear Anderson’s voice, my boxing coach, saying move to the right side and throw your right."
Javier Mendez (Cain’s boxing trainer):
"Cain is able to hit you now and stop you."
Michael Bisping:
"I’m going to choose my words very carefully because I don’t want to talk sh*t about a legend. But I’m going to go out there and look to bully Wanderlei Silva, impose my will and beat him and I’m going to do just that."
Rafael Cordeiro:
"I always talk to Wanderlei, I know your history, You know your history, Make the difference in the ring. This fight can see the old Wanderlei, he never steps back, always forward, forward. This is the real Wanderlei."
Wanderlei Silva:
"I’m back to my old style; Silva is going back to the normal days. I’m prepared for a great future. I know in this year for me is going to be great."

I don’t believe for a second that Big Nog can defeat Cain with his boxing, he’s not his brother. Velasquez ate some big shots from Kongo and just motored through them. For a smaller HW he’s a beast and shouldn’t hesitate to take Nog down and batter him. It’s his best chance to win, risky of course, but it’s his strength.

by Koob on Feb 17, 2010 2:24 PM EST up reply actions

Just because he’s not his brother doesn’t mean he’s trash or something, and it’s not like Cain’s stand up has looked outstanding in his past fights to think he’d have the edge. And he hardly motored through Kongo’s shots, he crumpled on a number of occasions but Kongo’s mindset seemed to be “okay I have him hurt, heres my chance to hold him against the cage and let him take me down again!”

Not referring to Big Nog’s boxing.

I’m referring to the fact that one of the most famous heavyweight fights of all time was Fedor holding Nog down for 20 minutes and ground and pounding him.

by TLow on Feb 17, 2010 3:06 PM EST up reply actions

I read it the same way

I just wrote it off as a famous SBN reply snafu :)

by asa on Feb 17, 2010 7:40 PM EST up reply actions

I agree I also thought gee keep ignoring Fedor will ya when they said that …I think the UFC probably edits out anything that mentions Fedor …who knows maybe the cornerman said “well , BESIDES Fedor of course , who’s the bassest man in the planet” and the UFC just deleted that :)
But Fedor also crushed Nog on the feet btw , just wanted to add that

by JoelMan on Feb 17, 2010 9:54 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t think he motored through Kongo’s shots, Kongo just exhibited terrible awareness and charged right into TDs while Cain was sorting out the cobwebs. Props to Cain for getting those TDs while stunned.

Nog may not be able to put Cain out cold, but if he stuns him, I believe he’d follow up much smarter and more effective than Kongo did, with either strikes or maybe a finish like Paulo Thiago did to stunned Swick (a move that Nog specializes in).

by Hardcharger on Feb 17, 2010 3:49 PM EST up reply actions

Perhaps he’ll follow up with a D’arce and gator roll??

We're just a million little gods causin' rain storms, turning every good thing to rust.

by Anthony Pace on Feb 17, 2010 3:58 PM EST up reply actions

I could certainly see it. I think Nog’s boxing is quite good, and his chin is granite. If he can hurt Cain, Nog is one of the few HWs who’s a sub threat to Velasquez.

by Hardcharger on Feb 17, 2010 4:01 PM EST up reply actions

well thats balls! he didnt ‘motor’ through Kongo’s shots at all! He was almost done! Any decent, well rounded HW would have put him away after that!

by Kenwoo on Feb 18, 2010 6:46 AM EST up reply actions

That’s really not true, and just rehashes an argument that has been had on here many, many times. Yes, Cain was rocked. Yes, Kongo didn’t make the greatest decisions on how to follow-up. But part of the reason that people give Cain credit for that is that he was able to shoot and finish with authority multiple takedowns WHILE dazed from a big-time power shot, and that part of the reason that Kongo didn’t try to follow-up better was that Cain has such overpowering go-to wrestling skills that Kongo only had time for that one shot, then was trying to stay off his back.

It’s entirely possible that Kongo is not the most “well rounded” fighter, but he does have some wrestling, he’s an excellent striker, he’s hardly an untested rookie, and a dazed, half-conscious Cain took him down, held him there until he got his wits about him, and beat him so bad that my wife had to look away. Take less away from Kongo; give more credit to Velasquez.

He definetely didn’t knock Nog down at any point, but I think there was like one point where Randy landed some shot and Rogan started his “he might be hurt” stuff. It was probably right before Nog dropped him cause if watching Ultimate Knockouts has taught me anything, it’s that if Rogan and Goldy start complementing your striking in any way you will be knocked out hastily.

Granted, both Kongo and Rothwell are highly durable fighters. Even that Stljnic fighter seemed like a pretty durable guy. Velasquez is a wrestler converted into MMA, so for some, it takes time to get good standup and KO power.

by Jonathan Snowden on Feb 17, 2010 4:05 PM EST up reply actions

Well honestly he shouldn’t be blamed for what his coach said , he’s coach is a grown man and I doubt Bisping wrote him a script .
But I hate Bisping too :)

by JoelMan on Feb 17, 2010 9:59 PM EST up reply actions

Who ate all the pies?

Bisping’s coach did! lol

You’re right, his coach is a grown man but do you really think what his views are that different from Bisping’s? They spend hours each day together and I bet when he says stuff like that Bisping isn’t saying ‘hey show some respect’, I’m sure he laughs and joins right in. This is one of the reasons I don’t like Bisping. He tries to portray himself as being this humble respectful fighter but deep down his true nature is nothing like that.

by Roll for Life on Feb 18, 2010 12:44 PM EST up reply actions

Bisping is annoying , hard to argue with that – only this time he’s less cocky than usual . I think it’s a combination of him getting destroyed by Hendo (being humbled as he said) and , as he said – him not wanting to piss mma fans off by shit talking a legend . So Bisping tuned the trash talk down. Smart move I think , especially since there’s a real chance he’s gonna lose again.
Hard for me to pick anyone here , actually this whole card is filled with good matchups .

by JoelMan on Feb 18, 2010 4:04 PM EST up reply actions

I agree about the card, it’s a good one. I really like both Nogueira and Velasquez‎ , I don’t know who to root for. I guess either way a fighter I like gets closer to a title shot at cockchest.

isn’t wandy’s old style the reason he kept getting ko’d

by cagefightonacid on Feb 17, 2010 2:43 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Yeah I’m not sure he ever abandoned his style. The clinch, yes. I actually hope he tries to take Bisping to the ground a bit to keep him off balance, or just to get in tight against the fence if a takedown fails. And pressure with his movement while countering, instead of pressuring with the “propeller of doom”.

by Kwisatz Haderach on Feb 17, 2010 3:27 PM EST up reply actions

I don’t know about this …I think the reason Wanderlei’s style worked so well was also because the competition wasn’t as fierce as now . His old style worked great against lesser competition like Fujita or Sakuraba , or even Rampage back then . Obviously it’s a combination of things – Wanderlei also getting slower , but I have no doubt the competition toughened in the last 8 years.
However it’s still should be enough to defeat Bisping …the gods of mma must hate Bisping so Wand should win.

by JoelMan on Feb 17, 2010 10:03 PM EST up reply actions

As much as I love Wandy, I think stylisticly Bisping can beat him. I honestly think that is the hardest fight to pick on this card.

Straight striking versus looping abandon

I think the old Wandy might have a tough decision loss against the Bisping we’ve seen lately. I’m hoping the rumors of Wandy working to integrate his ferocity with technically stand-up are true, cause this could be amazing.

by asa on Feb 17, 2010 7:50 PM EST up reply actions

I’m absolutely certain that Wand will destroy him, but if I decide to be all reasonable about this, I think this could end up being decided by the wrestling and groundwork. But come on! Bisping is a poor man’s Rich Franklin. WANDY FTW!
