Watchin Hendo jump ship to strikeforce really got me thinking about this, is it a gift or a curse that people buy PPVs because your fighting on them?
Lesnar sells PPVs, Silva sells PPV, Kimbo sells PPV, Penn, GSP, and even smack talkers like Hardy and Kos or more recently Sonnen sell PPVs.
Once the UFC knows you can make people by cards with your name on it, because you fight "fan friendly" or you talk enough shit to get people to notice you, you may be relegated to PPVs for life. Meaning only people who purchase the PPV know who you are, while the people who dont are forced to sit back and wonder.
People who headline Fight Night cards gain tons of popularity because they fight on FREE(well cheaper cable television atleast) tv, where an obviously larger audience will see them. But if your someone like GSP or Lesnar who the UFC knows can sell PPVs you will never fight on a fight night card because obviously the UFC can make much more money off putting you on a PPV.
Which i think might be a reason Hendo left, he can expose himself to a much larger audience on CBS for free instead of headlining or fighting on a UFC PPV.
So I ask everyone here, is it a gift or a curse that you can sell PPVs?
