Jose Canseco after his first workout with Nick Diaz:
"I want to train 2-3 months and take Herschel Walker down. He knows he has nothing on me. I'm going to train for this fight and kill him."

I like that he’s making a plan for his imaginary fight.

After Walker he’s planning to fight Fedor, Brock, Muhammed Ali, and Voltron.

Strikeforce call his bluff.
Tell him he can fight Walker in Strikeforce if he agrees to three things:
1) trains three full months with Gracie. Walker did this with AKA to prove he was serious.
2) proves himself in a fight as Walker did against Nagy. But this fight will be on the unaired prelims of a Strikeforce Challengers event.
3) a purse of $600 when he fights Walker. Strikeforce will donate $100,000 to the charity of Mr. Canseco’s choice. Hell, make it $200,000.
Watch how quick Canseco would give up on fighting Walker.

The part that makes this ridiculous is taking a fight to prove himself for a fight with Walker. Otherwise, I agree.

By “proves himself”, I meant he proves he’s serious taking a low prestige fight. The Walker comparison was so you could justify it to Canseco.

Still
Cut that part out and it makes sense to me.

prove himself by fighting nudge… and why would it be unaired on a challengers event, walker was highly billed on a main card of a main show.
so what if walker donated his cash f canseco wants to keep it, so be it.
book it for sf April show, canseco/nudge if he beats nudge, give him walker

Walker gets main card status on a Showtime event but Canseco is regulated to prelims on an effing Challengers card?
This hate is getting ridiculous.

It's simple
Did Walker deserve Main Card status? Not really, but he did actually put some work into training for his match. Jose Conseco on the other hand, went to fight in Japan just to get a quick paycheck in one of the most ridiculous Freakshow Fights in MMA History.

@deowade
Yeah, Canseco gets all the blame in that one while Dream officials are left blameless.
by Tap or Snap Radio on Feb 14, 2010 11:07 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
The Super Hulk Tournament was marketed as a Freakshow by Dream

They never tried to pass it off as anything else. So, no, I don’t blame the Dream Officials at all. Conseco went into that for a paycheck, and that’s it. We’d have never seen Conseco try MMA again if he hadn’t smelled a possible paycheck, after seeing Walker fight at Strikeforce: Miami.

So the dude wants to get paid, big deal.
You need to stop acting like MMA is nothing but honor and shit. It’s two guys beating the christ out of each other, let’s not forget.

Conseco doesn't deserve the same level of respect that Walker gets.
I’ll leave it at that.

Jose Canseco didn't get traded for
5 players and 8 draft picks.

Wanting Canseco to go away has nothing to do with the honor of MMA it’s just the standard response when the dude says or does anything at all. Even crappy Vh1 reality shows are made worse due to his involvement.

I’ve always been very vocally anti-“these guys are all warriors! Respect! Honor!” but this fight is among the worst things that could happen to the sport aside from like…a high profile death.

jose
I saw jose on pros vs joes years ago and rany was there too. He said jose was throwing kicks in the locker room and had a black belt in take my dough or something. I think he has dabbled in martial arts before but damn….
HMC was good enough to fight Fedor...
but not Canseco?
I'm like PacMan fightin you silly kids... throw ya Hatton the ring, and get knocked outlike Ricky did.
lol.
I like Canseco
This guy is fearless, a true warrior. He may be old, and not have any experience, but he wants to do it, He is willing to get the shit kicked out of him for money. That’s what Phil Baroni does, and many other fighters who like to lose.
they should keep giving him fights for that reason… his highlight videos would be awesome

The funny thing that could happen is this. IF (this is a big if) Jose Canseco trains, and invests the money (anyone know how much it costs to train at a top level gym for a few months? I have no clue…) and Herschel Walker refuses to fight him, you KNOW he’ll start calling out other guys, maybe even the guys he outed in his book. The guy loves the media spotlight and apparently goes through money like a crack addicted sailor, so he’ll want to make money off of it.
A top quality training camp can run over $30,000, I doubt Canseco wants to drop that kind of money, especially if he doesn’t already have a fight booked.
holy crap. That much for 2-3 months? I mean Cesar Gracie is probably cheaper, but that’s crazy. Although as I said I think Gracie is trying to use him to show how good his gym is, so the payment might work out a little differently…
I was thinking like, 2-3k a month or something. Shows you how back asswards I had it.
Yeah, the school is only the beginning
They have the main coach, the bjj, wrestling and boxing coaches, sparring partners, nutritionists, massage/physical therapists sessions, strength and conditioning coach and probably more.
All of them are working with you for about three months and getting paid like anyone else.
People just don't like Canseco
he is just doing it for a payday though (everything he’s doing is for a payday frankly). He continues to ruffle feathers and honestly while I don’t care about freak show fights (talking about them anyway), Canseco would be a good opponent for Walker.

This would be one of the most talked about fights ever
and would give Strikeforce a lot of exposure. As long as Strikeforce didn’t make this kind of thing the norm, or lied and said these guys were better than they were, there is no problem with this fight.
All the people complaining would watch anyway.
