UFC Signs Jason High to Face Charlie Brenneman at UFN 21

Image via www.hdnetfights.com

The UFC's official site for UFN 21 confirms that welterweight prospect Jason "The Kansas City Bandit" High (9-2) has been signed by the organization to face fellow newcomer Charlie "The Spaniard" Brenneman (10-1).  High revealed the news of the four-fight contract earlier today on his Twitter page.

Although High is coming off a vicious knockout loss to Marius Zaromskis at the finals of the Dream Welterweight Grand Prix back in July, the gifted wrestler and Antonio McKee prodigy has been training hard and keeping a high profile in the Twitter world.  The KC Bandit has notable career victories over BJJ phenom Andre Galvao, and UFC vets Kevin Burns and James Giboo.

Brenneman's signing was announced earlier this week by the AMA Fight Club in New Jersey, also home to UFC fighters Dan and Jim Miller.  The former D-1 wrestler at Lock Haven University and winner of the first season of Spike's Pros vs. Joes, Brenneman is riding a five-fight winning streak which includes four stoppages.

UFN 21 now includes:

Kenny Florian vs. Takanori Gomi
Roy Nelson vs. Stefan Struve
Nate Quarry vs. Jorge Rivera
Ross Pearson vs. Dennis Siver

Cole Miller vs. Andre Winner
Yushin Okami vs. Lucio Linhares
Gleison Tibau vs. Caol Uno
Jason High vs. Charlie Brenneman
Gerald Harris vs. Mario Miranda*

not really…. he just got obliterated by a guy who got obliterated. to me, high seems like damaged goods until we see him really get hit again.

He got KO’d by a guy who despite having a huge reach disadvantage knocked down and almost finished Nick Diaz. Whitemare is a very very dangerous striker.

How did I end up on this bandwagon and why does everything say property of Chael Sonnen?

by Day Man on Feb 11, 2010 7:05 PM EST up reply actions

i agree… nick said he slipped and wasn’t knocked down, which could be a diazism, but it just seems odd to sign a guy coming off a brutal KO loss, to a guy who’s coming off a tko loss as well… both guys from the rival promotions

by cagefightonacid on Feb 11, 2010 7:13 PM EST up reply actions

I see your point. I tend to look at it more of the guy who beat Galvao on the same night and is young and has a lot of potential as a fighter. But again, this is coming from a High fan.

(And for sure that was a Diazism)

I see it as

a 9-2 prospect, who has made it to the finals of the WWGP, and uspet the highly regarded Galvao… A guy who’s only losses came from two guys who are/were number 1 contenders to the SF WW crown. Why wouldn’t the UFC sign him?

People shit on a prospect that lost to the number 12 and 13 in the world? What about the other people getting signed who have already lost to unranked guys?

-1 for you

A guy can’t lose a fight? Give me a break.

there’s guys who don’t get ko’d into oblivion in their last fight who deserve a spot

Yeah, this is another huge blow to them on par with when UFC re-signed MMA megastar Ryan Jensen.

by smoogy2 on Feb 11, 2010 10:10 PM EST up reply actions

lol the UFC does appear to have a man-crush on Ryan Jensen. The guy is still not cut! Is he Dana’s nephew or something?

Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.

I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.

Great addition. Wouldn’t be surprised if they signed a buncha other ww fighters to keep fucking over strikeforce.

I know my friends are excited about this. They’re good friends with lots of the Bodyshop guys. I wonder if Newton will ever step foot in the octagon. He’s a good wrestler, just think he needs to work on his stand up a bit more and he’ll be ready. That said, congrats Jason!

That's what happens when your string of "boring" wins

ends with a brutal beatdown at the hands of Chael Sonnen.

UFC looks pretty second rate signing a DREAM washout.

by JRN on Feb 11, 2010 6:15 PM EST reply actions   2 recs

How

Is he a DREAM washout? He made it to the finals of the Grand Prix. He went 2-1 there.

Clearly he couldn’t cut it in the upper echelons of the cutthroat DREAM welterweight division.

Speaking of DREAM washouts, once Caol Uno realized he couldn’t hack it at the top level in DREAM, he high-tailed it back to the States.

Don’t even get me started on that Sengoku washout Takanori Gomi being in the main event! The UFC is so second-rate.

These are all jokes, by the way.

Good for him, twitter superstar that he is

I also feel this is a good thread to point out that the H. in my name does not in fact stand for High

by Jason H. on Feb 11, 2010 7:41 PM EST reply actions

Hahaha

You made your first post (to my knowledge) a day after someone said in a Night Crew thread that Jason High was going to join BE.

It doesn’t matter what you say. You are now Jason High, just like Luke is now Matt Brown. It’s done, Elbow Nation has spoken.

Man this guy was lobbying to get into Bellator, hes got to be ecstatic about this.

You gotta feel good for the guy. If they both win him vs harris would be good

Tibau / Uno should be on the main card

get pearson off

by nastyem on Feb 11, 2010 7:57 PM EST reply actions

Hmm...Tibau has a problem finishing fights

and Uno hasn’t won in nearly two years.

Or you have a TUF champion who made a respected veteran look like an amateur in his last fight, taking on a guy with two spinning back kick KOs in a row.

Yeah…tough choice.

by Scott Haber on Feb 11, 2010 8:21 PM EST up reply actions

Right

No way that fight gets bumped.

I've been a big fan of Jason High

I am actually surprised that it took this long for High to get into one of the big MMA orgs. in North America (I know he was in Affliction though). Great signing, especially since I am a fan of High.

I’ve not been that impressed with High.
