Renzo Gracie says Rolles UFC debut was embarrassing:
"It was embarrasing. I can tell you he wasn't in that bad of shape. Fact is the nerves drained him of his energy. His stand up and ground work looked bad, nothing at all like he was doing in training leading up to the fight and it was if he couldn't hear what I was telling him. I think the pressure he put on himself overwhelmed him. He'll learn and be back."
ADCC champ Braulio Estima says Rolles Gracie fought with an injury:
"His performance was nowhere near what we expected and what he expected. He had a lot of injuries in training. He hurt his rib and that stopped him training for a while. But he was very excited to do it and he put a lot of pressure on himself. It wasn't the best decision to fight."

It's weird that a family whose dynasty was built on "size doesn't matter"...
…would put so much into “Gracie 2.0”.
Don't believe a word I say, I don't train BJJ.
I blog at TangleBones - you should follow me on Twitter here.
If you like it, you should put a rec on it.
I think that’s the first Gracie heavyweight. Considering the philosophy that a small man with proper Gracie training could beat any man regardless of size, I guess it’s figured a large Gracie would destroy everyone. All things being equal, the bigger man would crush. I guess that’s just not necessarily so :)
You have to be the man... you have to be very, like, alpha male with her. You know? Decide what you do and everything. So, show her who's the boss, you know? - GSP

I think its still the case. It looked a lot like none of the things that made the other Gracie’s successful were equal with Rolles.
Giving Shogun his props. I had the fight 48-47 Machida but Shogun put up a monumental performance and I am honored to have seen it in person.
time for Roger to clean up Rolles’ mess
Goldie: "Michael Jordan-esque in his grappling skills is Travis Lutter."
Rogan: "No, no he's not. No."
Part of me thinks that the pressure of living up to the family name really did mess with him. The other part of me read a comment on here where i believe it was bjjdenver who said that rolles has a reputation as being incredibly lazy.
I hope it was just first time octogon jitters for his sake, he’s a talented grappler and has a lot to live up to.

I thought Rolles was training with Greg Jackson
Why would Renzo be cornering him? Maybe I have my facts wrong though
Sometimes fighters travel to other camps for ‘tune ups’ near the end of their training camps for a fight. Like GSP, for example, does most of his fight training in Montreal for his fights and then goes to Jackson’s for a couple weeks before his fight to put everything together.
So Rolles likely trained in New York with Renzo’s team for the bulk of his camp with a trip to Albuquerque thrown in there somewhere.
As for the article I guess my theory was wrong and it was just nerves after all.

Yo newsflash MMA
The year isn’t 1998 anymore. The Gracies suck now.
