Announcing the Winner of FightMetric.com's and BloodyElbow.com's November Insanity Contest
Yes, I know it's taken forever. This is what happens when you burn the candle at both ends.
As we previously announced, FightMetric and BloodyElbow got together to produce something similar to March Madness for MMA. November of 2009 was a crazy month of MMA and we wanted to see how folks could do under a prediction system, bracket-style tournament. Many scored very, very highly, but there was one who clearly surpassed the competition in every way.
Let's cut to the chase: the winner of the contest (winning both on regular and advanced scoring) is BE reader MattfromBelleville. His Basic score? 55. Advanced? 51. To re-tally your scores, go to the calculator and see how you stacked up.
Out of 125 possible entries (these were the only ones who entered this process with a submission that could be reasonably scored), MattfromBelleville did the best job. So what does he win? A $100 gift certificate to Amazon.com to spend as he likes.
Again, thanks to everyone who participated and to FightMetric for such a clever game. I also owe BE reader szuconni a huge thanks for helping with score-tallying efforts behind the scenes. I promise if we do it again, we'll be sure to make the score tallying go a little more quickly.
Thanks again to FightMetric for developing the game and congratulations Matt!

I scored it in three days and with a hangover so don’t blame me for the long delay. The bulk of the time was spent getting the data out of the emails. The people that sent in pictures or pdfs of brackets took the longest. Next time, I hope its not like that.
Some people think I am a dumb, ugly human being, but really I am a beautiful ape, with exceptional verbal skills.
Thats a long hangover
Thanks for the work done. I inadvertantly left off a whole side of the bracket in my picks, so I knew I didnt have a chance. Congrats to Matt.
I started on a friday, went out friday night. finished the data saturday afternoon and had the scoring alg done and tested by sunday morning. Also, I tend to get caught up in my job and forget to eat or drink, so when I booze it up and am dehydrated, I get two to three day long hangovers. I also get very drunk on small amounts.

Thank you from the Great White North
Thank you for the $100 g/c. I love the site and radio show.
I thought I would put pen to paper and officially put my predictions down. I usually just look at the results and assume that I would have gotten most right. This time I tried to prove to myself if I was good at predicting fights. When I say good I think 70%. If someone predicts better than 75%, than you are better than Jordan Breen, and thus the real Godfather of MMA.
In hind sight I feel I could have done a lot better. Officially speaking my worst predictions were the Sengoku 11, with UFC’s and Strikeforce getting the bulk of my points.
From the Great White North, thank you for reading.

Keep up the great work Bloody Elbow team!

From scoring the cards, I can tell you that the bracket layout has a lot to do with you winning. There were several people that picked a higher % correct. But then again the bracket is what makes the contest interesting and fun. All hail the first champ.

Does it make it any less?
Lots of people don’t have the balls to pick the tough ones resulting in a higher %.

Hey, here is why I am not, nor will I ever be a writer. I read the above and didn’t even notice my own name was spelled wrong. In my world a syntax error won’t get past a compiler, but a logic flaw will lose you money. I prefer my world.
