I think a loss by either guy will likely cost them their job

With Sakara dropping out last minute in his last fight, and Falcao staring his way to victory in the final round of his fight with Harris.

by KJ Gould on Dec 9, 2010 5:19 PM EST reply actions

I can just see this fight being not too different from the Harris fight

Only if Maiquel wants to take it to the ground the fight is over by default because Sakara’s ground game blows.

Sakara survived on the ground against Leites,

and even escaped being mounted repeatedly…I think he can handle Falcao just fine on the ground.

Sakara isn’t getting cut. He dropped out because of an illness. He’s not on the UFC shit list at all. and Falcao isn’t getting cut unless he refuses to engage all fight.

What was the illness?

I can’t remember, but I heard it could have been caused by a bad weight cut since he came in far too heavy fight week. And last I checked, having weight problems puts you on the UFC shitlist and maybe it was best for Sakara to pull out then risk not making weight in addition to making his health worse.

He was throwing up backstage...

it was witnessed by plenty of people and from talking to my sources they were disappointed but didn’t have him anywhere near the “we should fire this guy” list. He’s put on a lot of good fights for them.

Gerald Harris and Elliot Marshall had issues with not being particularly exciting. Harris had some nice finishes, but on the whole his fights were not crowd pleasing.

Sakara is almost always in a fight that gets finished and is exciting bell to bell. That’s the bigger factor at play.

But your job depends on entertainment and money

Not whether you’re good enough at your particular sport. There were better actual wrestlers that had to job to football players and body builders and the like brought in for their celebrity, or to flashy acrobats or guys who could talk up a storm on the microphone.

The only difference between UFC and Pro Wrestling as I see it is the lack of pre-determined outcomes. UFC isn’t a sport in that regard. Just ask Dana “The best fight the best (as long as the best are exciting)” White.

No, you are incorrect

If Harris had wins against non undercard level fighters, wasn’t old and years into his career thus not likely to get much better, had any particularly impressive talents, and didn’t have dozens and dozens of newly acquired and much more highly skilled fighters nipping at his heels, he wouldn’t have been cut just because he’s “boring”.

It only seems like pro wrestling if you ignore crucial context and details that frame in the issue in a perfectly logical manner.

Lots of people seem to like to do that for some reason though. I just don’t get it.

I thought Falcao just started a two-year prison term. WTF?

by judonerd on Dec 9, 2010 5:54 PM EST via mobile reply actions

He WAS on 24mo. house arrest... in 2002

He was released on 18mo. Probation and given the go-ahead to travel.

by BKdroid on Dec 9, 2010 5:57 PM EST up reply actions

Err, no.

There were apparently some administrative errors made by the courts after he served probation a few years back, and due to a change of address, Falcao failed to be notified of a hearing. He was arrested recently because of that no-show, but it’s apparently been cleared up according to Tatame.

by Scott Haber on Dec 9, 2010 5:59 PM EST up reply actions

Hellllllllllllllllllll Yeeeaaah!

Sakara is and always has been my favorite middleweight fighter in the UFC. Mojority of his fights are always exciting win or lose and I am a huge fan of his boxing style. However, Falcao possesses a whole lot of striking power as well which can be overwhelming when he rushes in. Although I am going for Sakara, I feel this could go either way and should not be a boring fight due to what happened in the Harris fight. Sakara is going to have to use his slick boxing and his evasive cage movement to secure this one. This is probably gonna be either fight of the night or knock out of the night. I see Sakara winning this by TKO via counter punch or Falcao winning by catching Sakara and rushing him with non stop punches. Someone is getting finished. Super Excited for this one!

by VoTS on Dec 9, 2010 6:04 PM EST reply actions

how come?

Sakara is on a 3 fight win streak and is exciting. He was forced to pull out of his last fight due to unfortunate circumstances. Falaco may have just stood waiting for the bell against Harris in the third but he showed glimpses of blinding hand speed and has serious power. For me, he blasts Sakara in this fight so he’s safe but I just don’t see Sakara being after it.

Win streaks don't mean much anymore

the UFC is going to cut the loser. Maybe they wouldn’t normally, but this isn’t business as usual.

I dont quite understand what you're saying

If someone goes 10-0, is injured and forced to pull out of a fight, they’re cut if they lose the comeback, because win streaks don’t matter?…
There is no way Sakara is getting cut if he loses here. If Falcao performs and loses, there is no way he’s getting cut.

Rogan: "That's a rear naked choke."

by NE188 on Dec 10, 2010 2:57 PM EST up reply actions

Ugh, he doesn't have a 10-0 win streak though

so that ridiculousness doesn’t apply here. If it will satisfy you, win streaks like this don’t mean as much anymore. Better? I’ll concede the “absolutely” part and replace it with “likely”. This isn’t business as usual as the UFC has some roster spots to clear, and win streaks like the type Sakara have can be erased with a bad loss. Especially in light of the fact Sakara damaged another card with his unfortunate dietary choices.

Falco is coming off that strange performance and an arrest. Ya he’s likely gone with a loss.

Wolfgangsta @ www.ninjasplace.com

by Urijah Bieber on Dec 11, 2010 7:00 AM EST up reply actions

"Ridiculousness"?

Falcao is on an 8 fight win streak. Sakara on a 3 fight win streak and is exciting. I don’t know what you mean by win streak’s “like this”…a winning streak is a winning streak regardless of how you look at it.
You say yourself his “damaging” of a card was unfortunate. The fact it’s unfortunate means it will be overlooked. It wasn’t exactly purposeful or a well known risk he shouldnt have taken, or a mistake that just shouldn’t have been made.
I think you’ll be surprised when neither of these fighters are cut.

Falcao’s performance vs. Harris was weird.

On 1 side he didn’t do anything in the 3rd&most of the first round.
On the other side, when he turned it up he completely handled Harris

Probation that for some reason allows him to fly internationally to compete in fighting events, kind of ironic privilege given the fact that the charge was assault.

by DirtyML on Dec 9, 2010 7:38 PM EST up reply actions

People on probation are often granted the privilege to travel internationally for business.

And from what i understand, which could easily be wrong of course, this new round of probation isn’t related to his assault charges. He was supposed to be in court for whatever reason, but didn’t show because he changed addresses and never received the notice. Missing the appointment is why he’s now on probation again AFAIK.

Sakara isn't going anywhere unless he puts on a completely horrible performance...

I really don’t understand why everyone keeps saying someone is going to get cut. Ever since Harris got cut people are all paranoid about this. Harris may have been on a win streak but he was still a fairly unknown fighter and hasn’t fought the kind of people Sakara has. If anyone gets cut its going to be Falcao. Sakara has been in the UFC for almost 5 years and has fought recognizable names and has notable knockouts. He is a vet. Harris was just signed to the UFC this year.

by VoTS on Dec 9, 2010 7:29 PM EST reply actions

I hope that we get to see the best Falcao, being the one that dropped Harris and took his back, and not the one on his bicycle. Falcao had some very fast hands, and he looked to be pretty well-rounded as well. I will give Falcao the benefit of a doubt about that third round against Harris. I think that Falcao will win this one.

I blame Harris

Harris didn’t even try to engage during the 3rd rd and knew he was down on the cards. Pretty sure we’ll get the Falcao that violently molested Harris during rd 1 & 2.

I was thinking the same thing. I really can’t blame Falcao too much considering that he was winning, and it was his first fight in the UFC so a win matters a lot. Now that it’s his second fight in the UFC against a guy that will stand and trade with him, I expect to see fireworks and probably some quick counter-punching.
