I always forget how much the 1st seasons MW contestants really built up the WW division.

And Leonard Garcia needs a new nickname. I volunteer Leonard “The Larcenist” Garcia or Leonard “The Grifter” Garcia, because when you face him you’re getting robbed.

It always intrigues me to wonder what happened to some of these guys.

Jared Rollins had a hell of a fight with War Machine and then fell off the face of the earth.

Dorian Prince had some major potential, and he never fought again.

You would think that these guys would be able to headline a regional show here or there and make their way back to the UFC, especailly with the TUF recognition

The only thing that I know about Dorian Price is that he is the muay thai trainer for Dustin Hazelett. It wouldn’t surprise me if Price just sticks with coaching.

Good list, any plans for an analysis of the information to complete some kind of scale on the continued decay of the talent in the TuF series?

There are a few anomalies but it seems like they are getting 4 or less quality people per show, which seems like a big investment to me.

by DirtyML on Dec 8, 2010 12:46 AM EST reply actions

When I did this last time I had humorous comments and my opinions of the breakdown of the seasons but I didn’t do an actual statistical analysis (feel free to use the list to do that if you want). It would be interesting to look at the seasons according to the fighter’s records in the UFC to see which seasons have beeen the most sucessful. Of course that is going to be skewed due to the older seasons being around longer, which gets into math I don’t want to do in order to correct for that.

by who me on Dec 8, 2010 8:15 AM EST up reply actions

well

The talent level in the UFC has also risen. It’s just so much more competitive to break into the mainstream (at least that’s the perception). But I would like to see what TUF guys UFC records are against non-TUF guys. I bet it’s pretty bad.

The other thing is that, given that the show was supposed to generate 1 winner, 4 guys who end up sticking around isn’t that bad…

From the records...

it looks like season 5 was the best season with talent and season 6 being the worst.

by djfivenine on Dec 8, 2010 3:19 AM EST reply actions

It’s sort of hard to tell just by looking at the basic numbers, for instance season 2 only has 4 fighters left and had 8 wash outs(0-2 UFC fights) but then it also produced the number two light heavyweight in the world. The season that has surprised me was season 10, within a year they are down to only four guys but those four guys are all on pretty big tears in the UFC, the season seemed to really suck ass when watching it and most of them never even got one UFC fight but four out of the five guys they did hang on to turned out to be some real gems (not sure why they kept McSweeney as long as they did). Does that make it a good season or a bad one or is that just because the heavyweight division is weak enough that guys can make an impact right off of TUF?

Season five was a great season and over time it’s just looking better. Season 6 was horrible but it also looks like it may of produced a future world title contender in George Sotiropoulos too. How many Matt Wimans and Cole Millers is one world title contender worth? Man if even a horrendous season can produce one diamond does that make it worth it? The actual value of these seasons doesn’t seem to appear for a couple of years after they are over.

by who me on Dec 8, 2010 8:35 AM EST up reply actions

Record...schmecords...these guys are awesome!

Nice work compiling this. I think it is vital that we remember that TUF is basically an infomercial for the UFC and a demographic win for Spike. If they get anyone reasonably successful, it is just gravy. On the other hand, it is an opportunity for the fighters. If they wash out, they get more money in smaller shows for their name recognition, it is a shortcut to the UFC and it allows them opportunities to train at much higher levels than many of them ever could without TUF.

by BJJDenver on Dec 8, 2010 11:19 AM EST reply actions

The real surprises are the guys who never fight again after TUF (like half of Matt Hughes season 6 team). Even the guys who never actually fight on a UFC card should be able to draw more money on regional shows due to being reality show famous.
