Nam Phan confirms to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour that he was paid his win bonus following his controversial loss to Leonard Garcia at the TUF 12 Finale:
"It's almost a blessing in disguise," Phan said. "It almost made me more popular. I really appreciate the support from the MMA community, especially the UFC and Dana White. Everyone from the UFC had my back, and I really appreciate that."
"Dana white came by backstage and told me, 'You're getting your win bonus because you won that fight,' " Phan said. "I thought business is business, and I just thought if I lost, I lost, and I would only get my base pay. That's how it usually goes. But the UFC – Dana White takes care of the fighters. I really appreciate that."

Glad to hear that
Thats pretty cool of the UFC to step up like that. Dana isn’t quite as big of a dick as I thought.
I'm gonna give you three seconds; exactly three-fucking-seconds to wipe that stupid looking grin off your face or I will gouge out your eyeballs and skull-fuck you!
He’s done this a bunch of times and not just with the TUF 8k/8k pay

Good to hear.
Not the first time Phan got robbed. I thought that JZ stoppage was BS

Twas BS...
Phan was fine and the ref didn’t even give him the time to recover. He looked really good in the fight with Garcia and deserved the extra pay. This guy has paid his dues and has been fighting for a long time against some really tough guys. Really unimpressed with Garcia though and he used to be one of my favorite fighters. Dude needs to evolve. Those flying knees were horrible.
Just the flying knees?
I think you mean everything he threw was horrible.
cool
and i’m sure it’s been touched on already, but phan looked more impressive in defeat than brookins did in his win. or more well rounded at least.
The only positive I pulled out of Brookins' fight
Is that he got his ass kicked and then came back to win.

I knock Dana because of some silly PR stuff sometimes, but I always hear about this and other under the table bonuses that he gives his fighters. Good job Dana.
Does that mean that Garcia didn’t get his win bonus, or did the UFC pay out 2 win bonuses?
In the end, all your friends and family let you down and you die in your own arms, so who cares?
The Dana Haters can tell us why Dana is wrong to do this.
Let’s hear it…

Phan's bonus is only there because Dana won an extra hand of blackjack

woww Dana is soooo generous!!!! he paid a full xtra 10k…maybe? It’s absolutely nothing to the UFC to pay a win bonus to a fighter like Phan it’s really not that big a deal.

Well...
I’m not a member of the Dana Haters, but I thought I could give it a try:
You guys are so easily fooled. Dana only gives out those bonuses for attention and publicity. If he was paying what these fighters deserved in the first place, Nam would of been paid more with a loss than what his terrible TUF contract pays with a win.
While we’re at it, who made him God of the Judges? So, when Dana thinks someone (he likes) won, he gives them the bonus… but only if he thinks so? I think about as many people thought Shogun beat Machida as their were that thought Machida beat Shogun… yet, Shogun gets his rematch and bonus… and Machida gets NOTHING.
Why? Because Dana said so. That hardly seems fair. If you look at the motivation, it’s likely that it’s because Rampage vs. Machida wasn’t as exciting… or maybe because Machida makes more?
Dana should get over his God complex already.
… and scene. FYI, I don’t believe any of that, but I’m usually pretty good at manipulating people.

Everything else is very nice

yeah, this is great news
he should have been in the Finals as well…Phan got the raw end of both the Johnson & Garcia fights.
He looks even better at 145, though.

I thought Nam won the Johnson fight too but it was close. The Garcia fight wasn’t close at all, it was highway robbery.
I’ve got a feeling half the TUF guys from this season will be dropping down to 145lbs.
replace half with all beside mckenzie
i just dont think he could make the cut
and outside of johnson brookins phan mckenzie and possibly bruce leroy who else is even staying in the UFC?
"I have smoked weed with alot of UFC champions" - Joe Rogan
I would bet that’s about it and I imagine that Bruce Leroy’s UFC career won’t last too long. Talent wise it wasn’t a very good season.
yea it really wasnt that great
but outside of tuf 10 no seasons recently have given the ufc any meaningful depth in their respective divisions
i think phan can maybe stick around a little at 145 and with his win over garcia he’s in the highest pecking order in the division so far and johnson and brookins maybe can as long as they work their gaping holes in their respective games.
mckenzie’s a one trick pony though in a shark tank division who i dont see lasting more than 2 more fights in, he’s gonna get popped in the face by a hungry WEC guy like Anthony Njokuani whose fighting for a job and he’ll be gone.
leroys a tough call though, hes young as shit and athletic if he busts his ass he could turn into something, the problem is that hes not even close to ufc level yet even in a division thats relatively thin but has guys his age like grispi koch and aldo already turning into world beaters
"I have smoked weed with alot of UFC champions" - Joe Rogan
Nam may make real waves at 145lbs where he wasn’t at 155. Brookins has already been in (and out) of the WEC. Johnson would be a world beater if fights were only five minutes long but a bad gas tank can be fixed so who knows. Agree that Mckenzie is a one trick pony. Leroy is flashy but I wasn’t really impressed, flashy may keep him around for a while but I don’t see him winning many UFC fights.
Definitely a stand up move by Dana, especially on a cared where they didn’t make much money. Sucks that the promoter is out of pocket because the judges are only qualified to judge alligator wrestling.
Don't flatter the judges with that compliment.
"We have all had to watch Brock Lesnar fart around. That guy is an embarrassment. God damn, you get to hand pick his opponents for him for a while then someone who is a half way decent athlete comes along and hits him once and he pisses his pants and runs. If he wasn't in a cage he would still be running."
-Don Frye
i wonder who phan fights next
id like to see him vs lc davis… seems like a solid matchup on both parts, winnable fight for davis and keeps him alive in the ufc and a tough test for phan coming in against an experience guy whose been in with some of the best at the lighter weights

I wonder how long it will be before we get an “Ultimate Judging Blunders” dvd released by the UFC

I guess the lighter weight fighters have the same contracts
I saw many 3k and 4k paid fighters
i dont think they renegotiated them upon merging
i think that wont happen until they expire, im not too familiar with the pride buyout but isnt that how that worked before?
"I have smoked weed with alot of UFC champions" - Joe Rogan
The big names will probably get a bump right off but I would imagine that is how it will work for most of them. Better contracts once the old one’s run out, provided they aren’t cut of course.
the majority of the lws are gonna go though
theres just too many fighters at that division especially with the ufc gonna be gunning for melendez and alvarez in the near future
"I have smoked weed with alot of UFC champions" - Joe Rogan
Yeah.
It’s like when a contract is purchased.
