Sengoku: Soul of Fight Full Results - Hatsu Hioki Defeats Marlon Sandro to Win the SRC Featherweight Title

Hatsu Hioki took home another title with a win over Marlon Sandro -- Photo via Sherdog.com

In the main event of the evening, the #8 ranked featherweight, Hatsu Hioki, went into a five round war with the #4 ranked, Marlon Sandro. Hioki almost finished multiple submissions on the third and fifth rounds, but the champion just didn't want to quit. He still got the nod of the judges and took home another title though, winning with the scores of 50-47, 49-47 and 48-47.

Taisuke Okono, who was a late replacement to Dan Hornbuckle, came in over the weight-limit but still put on a show. He stopped DREAM representative, Ryo Chonan in 19 seconds and screamed "This is Sengoku! Thank you!".

WEC veteran, Yoshiro Maeda also had an impressive performance. He was rocked early, but still managed to stop Masanori Kanehara in a back and forth battle which ended in under two minutes.

People were expecting Venezuelan violence, but Maximo Blanco and the Korean, Won Sik Park, initially fought to a draw with the scores of 30-30 and 29-29 twice. Judges gave their must decision, and they all awarded the victory to Blanco.

Megumi Fujii, who had a long reign at the top of women's MMA before suffering her first loss at Bellator, did what we all expected. She defeated a defensive fighter in Emi Fujino, who now has lost 5 of her last 6 bouts.

Keita "K-Taro" Nakamur won the SRC Welterweight Grand Prix by choking out Yasubey Enomoto on the second round.

Roxy Modafferi had a stomach illness and the ringside doctor had to stop the bout against Hitomi Akano even before it began.

Full Results are after the jump.

Hioki!!!

Reading the PBP it sounded as a fantastic fight. Sandro was the favourite for many but Hioki dominated.

I can’t wait now to find a video of this. Hioki is really a great fighter.

I’m extremely surprised with that result. Wow. I thought Sandro was coming for the kill in this one.

He was coming for the kill. He was just outclassed.

It’s now close between him and Aoki for being the top japanese talent in this sport.

Experiencing an awesome fight through multiple Twitter updates was....strangely exciting.

Let the Aldo/Hioki debates begin.

While I know that this is primarily a news-site, it is also a very fan-friendly place which is why I`m gonna make a somewhat unusual request…

I live in Sweden, which means that I have some trouble with remembering exactly when an event takes place. I am, however, very careful as to avoid visiting BE whenever I want to see an event post-festum. When the first “official” post about a japanese event is made, could you not maybe put the results after the jump?

I now now that Hioki won (Congrats to him), thus taking away a lot of my interest for the Sengoku-event.

I understand if such a policy is impossible, but my fingers are crossed anyway.. I will now leave BE for the time being and return to scrutinize my favorite site as soon as all the amazing events taking place the next couple of days have been enjoyed by yours truly.

Happy new year to you all!

That everywhere the same thing

Ig you don’t want the result of your american football match don’t go on ESPN or SI. If you don’t want to know the results of your national team of sueden in football, don’t go on a football site.

You can’t expect sport site not to give the results in the titles.

It’s true for every site. Don’t go on a sport site, don’t watch TV news. If you can’t watch an event live, odds are that you will know the results before seeing the fights.

Yeah...

if something is going to air a few hours later we will try our best to not post results on the front page, but when it’s not going to air for like a week, we just can’t sit on it.

It`s cool.

I guess it`s really up to me to keep better track of when events starts… I usually get away with staring cross-eyed at the pages (it actually works) and thus avoid seeing the results.

Couldn`t keep away from my precious BE. Addiction is bad. Still, better to be addicted to a MMA-news site than most other addictions though.

Best wishes/

Not really. Good fight, but one-sided. Sandro didn’t offer much, which is surprising.

There were some wondering about what a Sandro vs Aldo fight would turn out. I guess with this loss, people may be talking about an Aldo vs Hioki fight.

I won't jump off the bandwagon just because you lost.

Big, big upset for Hioki

Especially with the way Sandro was knocking fools out. I look forward to watching these events on replay of HDnet (aka vids on the interwebs, as I don’t get that channel) :(

Why do people consider this an upset?

Is it because people saw flashy knockouts, and therefore thought Sandro was some kind of technician? Because he ain’t. I was impressed with his knockout of Kanehara (although with Maeda taking him out, perhaps not so much), but outside of that he was flooring nobodies. Meanwhile, Hioki, despite some oddball performances here and there, has displayed a quiet well roundedness for many years…a well roundedness supported by one of the absolute best grappling games in MMA. Hioki is the type of a guy who would walk into a high level grappling tournament and be competitive. His technique is that good.

17-1 record going into the fight

the 1 loss a controversial “LOL JAPANESE MMA” judging decision. #4 ranking overall.

I mean its fine to consider his wins against “nobodies” but those same nobodies all have winning records and a combined 59-23-18 record. These are fairly significant for MMA outside the Zuffa umbrella

by Cory Braiterman on Dec 30, 2010 3:47 PM EST up reply actions

Ditto.

With this win Hioki should be considered consensus #2 in the world. He demonstrated great calculated standup against Hominick a couple years back and his ground game is comparable to Aoki’s IMO. The loss against Omigawa was BS.
