Very poor gameplan by Souwer,
he should of avoided the clinch with Imada at all costs. If had employed more of a stick-and-move gameplan he would of strolled to the victory and may have even got the finish.
I already replied to this over at HKL
But I think you need to give some credit to Imada, who waded through Souwer’s vaunted hand combo’s in order to force the clinch situation. He made it a brawl, which was exactly what he needed to do. It just so happens that Souwer is more tecnical and doesn’t excel in brawls (especially when throws are allowed, and score points).
Buakaw, on the other hand, does exceedingly well in trench wars, especially when he can use his knees and throws. Those leg kicks were brutal, and especially considering that Buakaw was extremely forthright about going for that left leg, it’s impressive that he was able to ravage it anyway.

Like I responded over at HKL,
I think Imada did a great job. He had his moments where he initiated the action and was successful. But more often than not, his offense was a result of mistakes Souwer was making. Souwer simply did not show respect for Imada’s grappling pedigree, and the result was a loss.
As for the Buakaw fight, all I have to say is, MY GOD. Some of the knees and kicks he was landing were making me cringe. I have to say that Imada did look a little worn down at the beginning of the fight, but regardless, Buakaw would of probably wrecked a fresh Imada.
That's fair.
I will say though, although Souwer has experience under Shootboxing rules, I don’t think he really had the tools to shut down a grappler like Imada, especially considering that Toby excels at closing distance and getting into clinch situations.
But yeah, Souwer could’ve made a more concerted effort to keep the fight at range where he could work his kicks. There were a few times where he waded right into a clinch with Imada, instead of keeping distance.
And yeah, Buakaw really shines under shootboxing rules. Basically anytime he can work his clinch game, he becomes a destroyer. If you’ve ever watched his training, he literally would train twice a day, consisting of a 10k run, then 500 knees on a bag, 30 minutes of straight kicking the thai pads, 30 minutes of clinch work (pummeling, light knees, throws), and then some kind of Strength & Power exercise, like pull ups, rope climbs, ab work, etc.
The guy’s a machine.

I wonder
If the vid of him vs. Umeno is up yet? I remember reading that he scored the KO at literally the last second of the last round.

That body kick by buakaw at the end of the round was one of the most beautiful things i've ever seen.
It looked like someone swung and stuck an ax to Imada’s side.

If the round is too close, it's 10-10, NOT flip a coin 10-9 or late takedown FTW.

My Gawd...
Those leg kicks from Buakaw were some of the most damaging I’ve ever seen. The way he turns his hip over is just ridiculous.
