S. C. Michaelson, stop defining me!
So I'm White. Yep I am. Half Slovak and Polish to be precise. And I'm an MMA fan. Now thanks to S.C. Michaelson and a few others I have been continually told what I (white people): find appealing, the way I act, and how I treat others. I have a favor: Please stop generalizing about me. I don't get on bloodyelbow and constantly tell everyone what appeals to African-Americans. Why? Because I believe in the individual.
The fact is the only racist comments and criticism I have heard consistently on bloodyelbow is from YOU, S. C. Michaelson.
It seems like every time Chael Sonnen speaks, bloodyelbow becomes a racist debate. Chael gets defended and then all of a sudden I get told How I, the white man thinks and acts. I'm not here to defend Sonnen. I think most of his fights are boring, and I don't agree with all his comments. I think him trash talking Wanderlei is the quickest way for fans to turn on him.
I'm also not here to spark a debate, I'm writing this, because I don't see color in fighters. I, the fight fan, love great fights, and great fighters. I don't root for fighters based on being white, or black. I root for fighters based on how they fight. When Tim Sylvia fought Antonio Nogueira, MY WHITE DAD and I were rooting for Antonio Nogueira instead of Sylvia, because we love his fights, his personality, and him as a human being. And You have fighters like Krazy Horse Bennett, who's african-america, puts on exciting fights, and I love watching him fight. I don't know his personal life, but the color of his skin never enters my mind. I root for him because I like his fights.
Yeah, are there people who are racist MMA fans? Of course. I'm not though. And racism is not a white trait, everyone experiences it, even white people. And as far as boxing goes, I used to love boxing. It has nothing to do with race, and everything to do with corruption, bad match ups, and the fact that boxers don't fight. Boxing to me is like politics, it's tainted from corruption. I could care less about having a white champion.
So S.C. Michaelson, ease up. Let's enjoy bloodyelbow for what it is: a place where MMA fans can come together and focus on what really matters: The sport of Mixed Martial Arts and great fights.
Treat me as an idividual. I'd appreciate it.
Happy New Year Buddy -
-Brandon

Cool story, bro.
I’m white/British, and I’ve never found any S.C. Michaelson post offensive. Whilst my joining date is relatively new, i’ve been lurking for a couple of years and I do find that, as loathe as I am to say it, this may be an anti-ABL post (groan!). Chael Sonnen was being offensively racist, and S.C. was, to my opinion, summing up the knee-jerk reaction of many fans, but not the thought out, intellectual opinion of the majority of fans. Trouble is, when many fans get together, the most simplistic opinion tends to rule.
World's Strongest Typer©
I also get the feeling he was playing devil’s advocate a bit. Perhaps BE wasn’t the best place for a collection of thoughts….
World's Strongest Typer©
Why not?
This is the 2nd or 3rd time I’ve seen this sentiment posed. Why isn’t BE the place for discussion on MMA issues such as race?

because I just don’t see the point in having continuous arguments that include some of the same people and new people that come in and everyone provokes each other.
I said this before to you where you though you made the innocent joke that now that Dustin Hazelett was cut he was going to (paraphrasing) ‘make 170 bucks a month giving BJJ lessons to White suburbanites.’ I found this offensive, personally. You make these jokes and sometimes throw out n**** and it IS a form of race baiting IMO. You can’t continue writing these articles and then doing that! It’s complete fucking hypocrisy.
You’ve been hijacking threads about racism in mma since one girl came and made a fanpost about prejudice against gay people in mma. You tried to invalidate her post and make it a racial issue.
It needs to just be dropped, so we can all move on to the more important topic- Whether or not Jose Aldo will some day land a 360 Spinning heel kick off the cage. Just sayin’

But what actually is it that we need to be talking about? Whether or not the success of White fighters has driven the success of MMA?? Given the % of white fighters in the UFCs early days, its a given that the success of white fighters drove the success of mma. The link between white fighters winning and some collective racism driving the entire sport is a very loose one from what I can see.
If we wanna talk about the apparel branding, sure, thats something people can discuss, but some vague suggestion that ’MMA fans are racist" makes for very unstructured discussion destined to turn into race arguments.
That's what he feeds off of as far as I can tell.

That fanpost touched on A LOT
And not just whether or not white fans are more likely to cheer for white athletes (by the way I think that is a. true and b. not a bad thing for what it’s worth) but also on things that really should be discussed. Racial tension when a black fighter knocks out a white fighter isn’t good. The t-shirt thing, isn’t good. We need to discuss these things so we can move forward. Or, I guess we can continue to pretend like they don’t exist and live in a fantasy world.

People seem to think that this HR and Silverstar shit pops up out of nowhere
and that the use of Nazi imagery is accidental. I’m showing that there is an undercurrent that is being picked up on by these companies, but I guess people skipped over that part.

I dunno man. I think only a small % of the population even know what the hell those symbols represent. I certainly had no idea that they had any link to nazis. And you can be certain that the success of the company isnt hinging upon the purchasing power of nazi sympathisers……and if Im that misguided as to the purchasing power of neo-nazis, I think that silver star has made some confusing decisions is sponsoring guys like Melvin Guillard, Rashard Evans, Anderson Silva, Jon Jones and a host of other non white folk.
Maybe a small portion of the country know what they mean
but those that are already aware of them when definitely know what they mean. No one is saying the clothing company’s success is dependent on Nazi sympathizers.

I just dont see why Silver Star would intentionally use a symbol that promotes white supremacy unless their was a massive market for it. Potential explanations for the symbols existence could be……..
1) There is some neo-nazi dude working for the design department that wanted to sneak it in for shits and giggles. — Possible, but seems unlikely.
2) They wanted the controversy for media attention. – Possible, but in my opinion, unlikely as I think more people would turn away from the brand than lean towards it.
3) They acknowledge the niche of racist MMA supporters as a legitimate market for their products. — Unlikely as the same negative exists for #2. They’d lose more customers than they’d gain. Add to that the fact that they promote many black personalities. They’d be sending mixed messages if they have a black dude wearing a nazi symbol in an attempt to appeal to nazi sympathisers. Doesnt make sense.
4) They did insufficient research when designing their products. — Seems the most logical and is also what the owner is claiming. The fact they have removed the products with the design support this as well.
I just dont see why Silver Star would intentionally use a symbol that promotes white supremacy unless their was a massive market for it.
Companies that cater to niche markets do not need a “massive” market for their products for them to be profitable. Alot of succesful niche companies are extroardinarily popular while serving a miniscule subset of the population.

They dont need a massive market necessarily however I would expect that due to the taboo nature of nazi-related imagery it would be reasonable to suspect a significant number of potential customers would be deterred from purchasing their gear after learning of the nazi link. That number would probably exceed the number of potential nazi sympathisers who would be drawn to the company as a result of the imagery. All speculation of course, but it sounds like a massive risk for only a small potential gain. Doesnt make sense to me.
Well if you’re selling T shirts for $60 that cost $0.04 to make…

I agree, this conversation about race is leading nowhere. I’m not even sure what we’re actually debating about. I mean, are we really trying to figure out whether Chael Sonnen’s comments are racist or not? And we have to debate about that for how long? And everyone gets sidetracked by completely irrelevant shit all the time, so whats the point?
What "continuous" arguments?
When has race been discussed on BE? The last time I remember was several months ago when Snowden wrote his piece on Silva. Now if you mean Chael Sonnen, then you’d have a point.
Show me these racial discussions and I’ll agree with you.
That quote about Hazelett wasn’t a joke. It’s the truth. Sorry OMG HE MENTIONED THE WORD WHITE, HE’S A RABBLEROUZER.
I haven’t said “n****” in months outside of the context of a discuss like the Joe Rogan one.
I haven’t hijacked anything, I merely stated that racism/race is just as big/if not bigger than homophobia. It’s funny the same way you say I “tried to invalidate her post” is the same way people came into mine and said it wasn’t a big deal at all. It’s a part of discussion but when I do it, it’s a bad thing. When it’s done to me, eh, not so bad. And I’m not complaining.
Closing your ears to racial discussion won’t make it go away. That Nazi bullshit didn’t happen in a fucking vacuum. Open your eyes man.
Enjoy your green post.

Guess what though? And here’s where you’re wrong. When did Tyson do monster business? Was it during his run? Or, OR was it after he had been beaten and went to jail.
He drew a million fucking buys against Frank Bruno, Razor Ruddock and Peter McNeeley. Remember him? The white boy who got KO’d by fucking pizza crust? People weren’t paying to see a "dominant" champion. They were paying to see that crazy n*gger Mike Tyson who just got out of jail for raping a woman. They were watching a spectacle. Not some technical display of pugilistic acumen. People paid 60 bucks KNOWING that the fight was going 3 minutes. And they did it in droves. It was a spectacle. 4 posts?
I saw 2 posts. The other discussion was on Nazis which people still defended as not a big deal.
The two posts that mentioned race’s numbers were inflated because lots of people wanted to make it known it wasn’t a big deal and “why are we talking about it”. The actual “discussion” was less than 100 posts.
How is it “hypocritical”? Let’s say I use “n*gga” everyday (and I do). Am I banned from discussing underlying racism possibly in MMA? Apparently so. I drink. Can I not talk about the behavior of drunks at MMA events?
I mention race sometimes because it exists, but y’all don’t wanna here that. Post-Obama we’re in a post-racial society. Who sees color?

Something you saw a long time ago
that didn’t happen. Couldn’t have been that long ago, I’ve only been writing for WKR since August. It’s something that didn’t happen. The only person that would make that statement would be Nate and he wouldn’t because he’s not stupid enough to make a statement like that if it’s true.
So you pulled that out of thin air.

That being said, you’re doing yourself a disservice by arguing with everyone over everything. I agree with some of what you said, but I think that some of your views – like calling S.C. a “race arsonist” are super intense for what should be a fun place to discuss MMA.
Maybe if you toned it down a little bit you’d get more traffic. I’m actively avoiding your website because I just imagine that it’s twenty guys posting the same stuff that you do.

If you actually read what I wrote, I didn't generalize all of anyone
I clearly stated that it was a minority of those fans. But this is one of the things I predicted would happen. How dare he write about race?!?!?!
The fact is the only racist comments and criticism I have heard consistently on bloodyelbow is from YOU, S. C. Michaelson.
Never made a racist comment.
It seems like every time Chael Sonnen speaks, bloodyelbow becomes a racist debate. Chael gets defended and then all of a sudden I get told How I, the white man thinks and acts. I’m not here to defend Sonnen. I think most of his fights are boring, and I don’t agree with all his comments. I think him trash talking Wanderlei is the quickest way for fans to turn on him.
That’s because what he says is, at best, culturally insensitive. It wouldn’t fly in any other sport and yet is tolerated, nay CELEBRATED in MMA.
I’m also not here to spark a debate, I’m writing this, because I don’t see color in fighters. I, the fight fan, love great fights, and great fighters. I don’t root for fighters based on being white, or black. I root for fighters based on how they fight. When Tim Sylvia fought Antonio Nogueira, MY WHITE DAD and I were rooting for Antonio Nogueira instead of Sylvia, because we love his fights, his personality, and him as a human being. And You have fighters like Krazy Horse Bennett, who’s african-america, puts on exciting fights, and I love watching him fight. I don’t know his personal life, but the color of his skin never enters my mind. I root for him because I like his fights.
This is great for you and your father. I didn’t say all of one group or even a majority of a group. Did you read what I wrote? I don’t think you did. I advise you to read it again. I’m not being condescending either.
Yeah, are there people who are racist MMA fans? Of course. I’m not though. And racism is not a white trait, everyone experiences it, even white people. And as far as boxing goes, I used to love boxing. It has nothing to do with race, and everything to do with corruption, bad match ups, and the fact that boxers don’t fight. Boxing to me is like politics, it’s tainted from corruption. I could care less about having a white champion.
That was my point. There’s a theory that MMA’s success was helped out by racist fans. No one said they all are.
I don’t think I mentioned your name, so I wasn’t talking about you. At least, I don’t remember mentioning your name. So I wasn’t really talking about you or probably anyone at BE in regards to the theory’s application.

Part of the original attractiveness of MMA to many White fans is that it was a way to see people like them dominate in a fighting sport.

this is ignorant
It’s not generalizing about “white people”. Not in the least. Chael’s comments DO cater to young white males. They are SPECIFICALLY who they are meant for. Does that mean all, or even a majority, of white people like them or enjoy them? No, at least not from his post.

Would you care to share personal stories about emotional moments in your life to an anonymous stranger on the internet hell-bent on screaming loudly about everything you write?
No?
He brought that up in his comments
yet he cant answer a simple chronological question?
Wolfgangsta @ www.ninjasplace.com
by Urijah Bieber on Dec 29, 2010 1:01 AM EST up reply actions
No,
YOU brought it up by attacking him personally for describing a smaller cultural phenomenon in a rather large group of people. Your arguments imply that unless SC is perfect, his view on racism in MMA is invalid. SC never made that argument or assertion, and in fact says the opposite. YOU brought it up.
No dude
just no. You don’t even know what this is about clearly, as this issue in this subthread right above us specifically is about something from rogangate. Not race. Also, your misrepresentation of my criticism of what I perceive as race baiting from him as “he has to be perfect like jesus and anything short of golden shits from SC would cause you to crucify him” indicates enough.
Just no.
Wolfgangsta @ www.ninjasplace.com
by Urijah Bieber on Dec 29, 2010 1:08 AM EST up reply actions
Nope.
The larger issue is that you’re implying SC is a hypocrite for using racially charged language and slurs about sexual orientation in the past. In fact, in the subthread that led to this one, you gleefully talk about SC’s use of the term “old crazy black dude”. Your implication is clear: because SC does not adhere perfectly to the non-discriminatory way of being he’s promoting, he’s a race-baiter and his arguments are invalid.
Meanwhile you’re covering your ears and screaming “LALALALALA” when he tells you that A) He’s not perfect and he knows it, and B) He’s since changed and tries not to use that kind of language anymore. Then you ask him to share a personal moment of reflection with you. Seriously, dude?
I shouldn't even respond to this
He’s talking about when he stopped using “f*g”, not when he stopped saying all kinds of other racially charged shit. He still does that nonstop, to this day. And now he’s on a soapbox talking about all the racial wrongs in the world of MMA? Excuse me for a moment while I stick my fingers back in my ears.
Wolfgangsta @ www.ninjasplace.com
by Urijah Bieber on Dec 29, 2010 1:21 AM EST up reply actions
EXACTLY
My fucking point. You’re not even listening. A straight male saying f** is not the same as a black man saying “crazy old black man.” Yes, he can say that. No, you can’t.

More generally, he’s saying he’s not perfect, dude. SC Michaelson not being a perfect example of how he’d like people to act does not make his arguments invalid. You think I’m perfect at this shit? You think anyone is? Hell no. But when Chael says racist shit, or Rogan spews slurs, someone has to call it what it is. Otherwise it goes unchallenged and continues and things never get any better.
If you’re not really listening, don’t expect anyone to take you up on an offer to let you in on their personal experience.

There’s a phrase that goes around on blogs about things like feminism, race issues, disability issues, etc. It goes like this:
“If it’s not about you, then it’s not about you.”
White MMA fans who feel put upon by discussions of racism in MMA would do well to take a deep breath and repeat this to themselves before dashing off an indignant comment or fan post.

Sounds nice, but...
When people talk about “white privilege” and “unpacking the invisible knapsack”, being white puts one on the defensive from the get-go. Most people want to believe they’ll be judged on their actions, not on the accidental conditions of their DNA and birth location. One problem with indicting whites by virtue of their whiteness is that it alienates whites who are sympathetic to the plight of minorities (like me). I don’t hold any illusions about what it must be like to grow up black in the US. Like Louis CK says, if there were a box to check, I’d check “white” every time and not “black”. But I can’t do anything about having been born white. I try to be understanding. I don’t like to be indicted for something which doesn’t apply to me.
And SC has told me more than once that some of the things I say sound like SWMCXOTPSJGHT or whatever the hell the acronym is. That’s close enough to an indictment. And I like the guy. I’d like to be his token white internet friend from Italy if he’d let me. He’s funny and insightful and not overly pretentious in his writing (unlike some here). Anyway, take this reply for what it’s worth — probably nothing.
"You stick a microphone in a guy's face and he calls out anybody but the champion, and Joe Silva should fax him a pink slip right then." -- Chael Sonnen.

From one white dude to another, I don’t share your experience of being “put on the defensive” or feeling “indicted” by discussions of racial privilege. It’s a sobering experience, sure, but not one that I’ve ever felt is directed at me personally simply by virtue of involving criticisms of white people.
If that’s how you feel about it, then you would do well to remember this: “if it’s not about you, then it’s not about you.”
I completely understand the way you are feeling and a part of me feels the same way, but I think this is an opportunity to show a bit of maturity and empathy. I think the percetange of true racists, motivated by resentment or dislike of a particular race, floating around the sport of MMA is very low. But people can be very sensitive when is comes to racism as its such an emotive issue. I think people often overreact and get offended when there is no reason to be offended. A bit of understanding and trying to view things from the other persons perspective goes a long way.
I coulda sworn I said that the theory says it is a small minority and was not accusing all MMA fans of being racist.

White people don't see race,
We’re basically colorblind when it comes to race. Actionbastard’s post is just more evidence of this indisputable fact.
It’s true. I only even know I’m white because a black person told me I am. Who knew?

ABL recs are legit ladies and gentleman
Why you poor fellows are so hung up on other people’s opinions is beyond me. I could write a fanpost about all the people who have their “sweep it under the rug” approach to anything remotally offensive or bigoted because they’re in denial that these issues make them more sensitive than they’d like to believe, but honestly it just doesn’t matter enough to me (plus I’m hella lazy).
I mean honestly, are you worried that you might be slowly becoming what these people are claiming you might be? Is it turning you into some sort of were-racist? As soon as a sensitive topic pops up on BE does all you your hair fall out and a swastika materialize on your chest now? No, then don’t worry about it. At the end of the day you just have to learn to tune certain shit out, otherwise you’re going to be fretting over something that doesn’t matter. The thing is though these issue dop matter, and I’m sorry to tell you but it’s the debates that surround them (inflammatory or not) that get people talking and gets people moving towards having a better understanding of the situation and actually doing something progressive about it. These people may have their unfair speculations but hey, you can either convince them otherwise or don’t waste any time on them anymore.
There was no reason to put S.C.‘s name in this title specifically other than because you knew it would automatically rile certain people up and get them on some ABL trip right away. S.C. isn’t writing all these articles or bringing this shit up everywhere he goes, he just pops in and gives his opinion and so then the usual crowd has to show up and take some kind of issue with it. Sometimes people are going to have strong opinions that may not jive with what you’re saying but that’s life buddy. Just learn to turn the other cheek and expect for the universe to balance itself out eventually.

Here's where BL took it too far
and is being racist himself.
Chael’s fanbase is decidedly YSWSCM (Young Straight White Single Christian Men), the same people that permeate the comments section on Youtube or random newspaper articles where you see racially and culturally insensitive remarks. To many of them, Chael is the guy who gets away with it. He gets to talk the shit they can only do on the internet for fear of (rightful) reprisal in the real world. These are the same YSWSCM that defend the use of slurs by various parties and can’t understand (or willingly ignore) why people would/could get offended by them.

Do you realize how many people are fans...
of comics than use race to get laughter? And you can call it what you want. It’s thinly veiled or blatant. But it’s a way to get it out there and make light of an issue that troubles America everyday.
Is Chael someone that is in a “holier than thou” position because he is an MMA fighter? I don’t think so. I think comics are probably more respected in our society than some cage fighter.
Also you are basically calling out Sonnen fans as racists because they find his jokes funny. I’ll try not to laugh next time I hear a black comic make a white person joke or the other way around. I wouldn’t want someone to think I enjoyed or was not offended by that sort of thing.

The ambiguity comes from the “the same people” line as it can be inferred that all (insert the acronym) visit youtube where there are racial remarks (although he never actually says that they are the ones posting just that they visit those sites where those things happen – another opportunity for the reader to infer).
The writing could be a little tighter but in general people just need to not look for ways to be offended in things they see/hear/read.
"You should work for 15 minutes to knock your opponent out, submit him, or improve your position to give yourself the best chance of doing either." - Dan Hardy
I don’t appreciate the racial generalizations, however I have noticed that they usually come with a disclosure that the writer knows not everyone feels that certain way about the issue at hand. Usually I am on the outside of these generalizations and do need to read the disclosure . Else I’m feeling annoyed that I’ve been lumped into some group that doesn’t seem anything like me.
I prefer individualism as opposed to generalizations. Given a chance most ppl I encounter are savvy and are capable of forming their own opinions beliefs and values. Generalizations just don’t work that well where I come from. Everyone is different, I would expect people to have a wide range of opinions and thoughts. I don’t view my opinions as gospel as I would hope others don’t view S.C’s in that way. Even though I find some generalizations offensive I would never ask people to stop sharing their opinion.
Ideally I am given facts and a chance to form my own opinion , not lumped into some mass racial generalization. But they are just words that only have value if I chose to pay attention to them. And usually I don’t. So they mean nothing at all.
The only reason I don’t like Black Lesnar is because he LOVES acronyms. I don’t much care for acronyms.

EVERYONE has prejudice. EVERYONE has bias. I have it, actionbastard has it, you have it. The person reading this, you, you have prejudice. Yes you do. It’s part of how we think as humans. We stereotype. We generalize. Stereotypes exist in your mind whether you’re aware of them or not, and they are most hurtful when you don’t realize they are there.
If SC’s post offended you, try examining why you were offended. Or try reading it again and be sure to catch the part where he says not all MMA fans are inherently racist, or where he says he doesn’t see anything wrong with rooting for fighters who have the same skin color as you. Either way, it’s hilarious to see so many people in the comments who, during f**-gate and all the Chael stuff, were talking about what thin skin all “Those People” have, screaming bloody elbow murder about how offended they are by SC’s post when he specifically says he doesn’t mean everybody. If you think it applies to you, then maybe it does.

Humans are inherently xenophobic. That’s evolution; 100,000 years ago, “different” wanted to kill and eat us.

Definitely. Way back when, stereotyping meant:
1. Four legs with black and white splotches is good for eating.
2. Four legs with black and orange stripes is good at eating you.
A neanderthal who didn’t organize by stereotypes probably didn’t live long. Being as we are now, post-biological evolution (for the most part), we can deconstruct that stereotyping.
I'm just asking him to stop generalizing

I know that everyone here is getting all worked up over our Righteous Discussion Of The Month but there is something else we should be rabble rousing over . If we are going to complain about anything that these companies are producing, how about the fact that every shirt that comes out is covered in shit like dragons, swords, and flaming skulls? I mean seriously, I want to support these folks since they support the fighters but for fuck’s sake, do I have to look like a douchbag to do it?
Yeah, everyone knows racism is bad but if you’re all going to get upset about something, let it be the fact that these companies make us all look like the asshats down at the local Buffalo Wild Wings asking the ladies if they’re DTF.
Actual LOL
Yeah, everyone knows racism is bad but if you’re all going to get upset about something
Oh man. Comedy gold.
Ok seriously yes, douchebag imagery and culture is bad, but the douchebag degrades him or her self. Racism is more important than that.
Seriously...
All of these comments and nobody calls out the fact that he uses Krazy Horse as his example for his “I don’t see color. I see fighters” whitewash in his fanpost.
Krazy Horse is aggressively black… wholly living in an almost farcical realm of the worst race-related stereotypes possible.
To not recognize his race just means you lack any ability to observe entirely… and probably shouldn’t be writing half-baked, baiting fanposts.
That said, when I watch Soul Plane… I don’t see color. I see actors…
You need to respect the baby... 'cause life is precious... and God... and the Bible.
I did indeed call him out on the “I don’t see color” thing above and Sabate nicely satirized it:
White people don’t see race, We’re basically colorblind when it comes to race. Actionbastard’s post is just more evidence of this indisputable fact. It’s true. I only even know I’m white because a black person told me I am. Who knew?
But yeah, good catch on Krazy Horse. I kinda skimmed that part. I’d amend that he’s not aggressively black, he’s aggressively stereotypically black, ie-the way white people think black people are. The man’s a charicature and for some reason it sells rather well.
It's the Stephen Colbert bit.
I don't want to say he's dirty, but Forrest Griffin looks like directly after a workout his crotch might resemble a cajun swamp.

Oh hell yes.
He does it so, so beautifully. It’s nearly (but not quite) Chapelle-level social commentary.
I say that because some of his audience is surely laughing because “Haha! Stereotypes!” The rest are laughing because it’s so bitterly true to what “colorblind” really means.
I'm pissed
I thought it was about Wrestling and was ready to rec the hell out of everyone. But I happen to agree on that matter…fuck.
They see me rollin...
My favorite part of all of this was the part where people generalized the Fanpost writer as a racist because he considered himself an equal-opportunity MMA fighter supporter.
“lol if it offended you, you must be a closet racist!”
How about everyone stops generalizing and just shuts the fuck up.

So...
Is this thread about racism in MMA or about a few posters issues with each other?
Personally, I’m sick of both, but at least racism is an important issue we should be discussing.
That said, I think it needs to be done responsibly and without hurling personal accusations. I’m sorry, but BE is no place to accuse each other of racism and we should be proud that it is a place to expose companies like HR, Silverstar and individuals like Sonnen, who are guilty of ignorance at the minimum.
Saying you didn’t know what the symbols meant, is no excuse. Educate yourself. And if it gets pointed out on a place like BE, support that and help get the situation corrected. The last thing we need is a bunch of unaware MMA fans wearing Nazi symbolism around in front of people who DO know what it stands for. This is how misperception starts.
Now, I’m not saying we have to beat the horse to death, but acting as if it isn’t an issue at all, would be the most wrong thing we could do.
If this isn’t you, don’t take it personally. When SC says things like white suburbia, I don’t get offended. We have to be able to talk about things and realize when things are said for humor and not in hateful speech. Now that doesn’t excuse everything that could be said, but we have to be able to differentiate and know what lines shouldn’t be crossed.
Now, you guys fighting about this and who posts what, may I suggest that you guys kiss and make up? Or would that be to homophobic, lol.

two kinds of people in this thread..
Those that are not happy about SC’s generalizations.. and the others are standing up for Him because of a good cause (racism)… tho they seem blind to his generalizations.
the generalizations of white people are really petty… I really like MMA for what it is.. an international sport with most of my favorite fighters from other countries..
I as a white dude in the upstate ny I don’t have many other interests that include such a diverse group of hero’s. I enjoy the different attitudes and cultural nuances.. and it sparks my interest enough to learn more. travel more.
stereotyping mma fans or anyone that wears a “cool” t-shirt as douche bags.. was.. well douchey .. I thought that was a pretty petty thing to say and a horrible generalization.. .. in a way it is exactly the stereotyping and BS that keeps Race and Class barriers up. why be mad at people that like those t-shirts? Do people that wear leather jackets or other tough guy imagery have as much mental problems as your shirt analysis?
I’m actually interested what kind of clothing does SC wear? maybe we can make a fanpost about it on BE and all his fans can pycho analyze him and his dress.. This would be a great exercise in race relations and a way for him to learn how it feels to be generalized.
LOL @ this mofo here
You cry about generalizations and the FIRST fucking thing you do is generalize.
Again, you people can’t read. I didn’t generalize anyone. Do you know what that means.
a proposition asserting something to be true of all members of a certain class
Nope, never did that. Also didn’t say a majority. I clearly said, SEVERAL times, a minority.
So really, there’s a few types of people
1. People who are very uncomfortable talking about race and want to sweep it under the rug and say it isn’t a problem.
2. People who don’t like SC and will support the opposite of what he says
3. People who can’t read and chose to skim what was written
4. People who actually read and disagree and were able to express their disagreeance intelligently (very small amount)
5. People who agree with most, but not all
6. People who agree with all
7. People who are sick of everyone whining about SC
You keep talking about YOU and what YOU are. Guess what? I don’t care about you. I wasn’t TALKING to you in my article. I wasn’t talking ABOUT you in my article. Show me where I generalized you.
Where did I say “douchebags”? That’s not even a word I use. (though I’m sure someone will find me using it once to prove me wrong)
The fact that you’re so upset about me talking about Nazi imagery on shirts is quite telling.
