Nick Diaz Signs New Multi-Year Deal With Strikeforce
From a Strikeforce Press Release:
STRIKEFORCE World Welterweight Champion and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu black belt Nick Diaz (23-7, 1 NC) has signed a new, multi-year agreement with the San Jose, Calif. based world championship Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) promotion.
"I'm looking forward to continuing my career with STRIKEFORCE," said the dynamic 27-year-old Diaz, a protégé of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu master Cesar Gracie and resident of Stockton, Calif. "When I first got here, there weren't a lot of great 170 pound fighters for me to fight, but that's definitely changed. There's a lot of really good fighters in the division now and I'm ready to fight anyone who thinks they can beat me."
Of late, the 6-foot-1 Diaz has been unstoppable, winning his last eight matchups. In his last effort, he settled a three-year old score with arch-nemesis K.J. Noons, out-striking Noons en route to a five-round unanimous decision at HP Pavilion in San Jose last Oct. 9.
Five months prior to the victory over Noons, the no-nonsense Diaz, one of MMA's most intriguing figures, ventured to Saitama, Japan, to face top-ranked rival Hayato "Mach" Sakurai in a DREAM promoted affair. To the surprise of many, the southpaw Diaz made quick work of Sakurai, submitting the Japanese fighter with an armbar at the 3:54 mark of the first round.
Diaz was crowned the first STRIKEFORCE MMA welterweight champion in history last Jan. 30 after he scored a thunderous first round (4:38) TKO on rising star Marius "The Whitemare" Zaromskis with an onslaught of punches at BankAtlantic Center in Sunrise, Fla.
Diaz's next challenge and second title defense is set for Sat., Jan. 29 when he will square off with Brazilian powerhouse Evangelista Cyborg (18-13) in the main event of a stacked STRIKEFORCE fight card at HP Pavilion, live on SHOWTIME (10 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the west coast).

He'd better stop calling out GSP right about now then.

He won't even fight Mayhem.
Diaz would run like Kalib if he was faced with GSP.
Koscheck has frosted tips.
And Anderson
This dude has made a habit of calling out and talking shit a bunch of guys he clearly has no intention of fighting. Embarrassing.
Oh well, still a hell of a fun fighter to watch. Even if it will be scrubs.

oh yeah
but as a Diaz fan, I’m actually glad to see him stay in the org that gives him fan friendly matchups so he doesn’t get wrestlefucked to death

so you just want to see a fighter you like win.....
rather than being challenged? i don’t get it.

I just don’t want his style to be contained by someone who is content to take him down and lay in his guard. If he comes in and fights Kampmann, Condit, Hardy, etc. I’d love to see it. But instead, why not take a few years to have some slobberknockers against guys like Daley and Cyborg. I don’t mind it at all, because I know he doesn’t have a shot at beating GSP, Fitch, or Kos

you don’t want diaz to be challenged. You just want to see some fan friendly brawls. Which is awful logic for a guy that’s supposed to be the champion taking on the best challengers. Not the most fan friendly fights.

Who does Strikeforce have for Diaz after Cyborg and Daley? This year they had to import a fighter from Dream, send Diaz to Japan to fight in Dream, and rematch him with Noons who isn’t really a welterweight. I would love to see him fight Daley, but after that I don’t see many challengers. Tyron Woodley maybe, but I don’t know if that happens this year.
I’m bummed that he won’t be going to the UFC.
Woodley’s contract is ruuning down, no guarantee he sticks around

he agreed to 181 which was the absolute lowest he could possibly make
mayhem is a gigantic dude, 181 woulda been really hard for him
diaz wanted it at 179 though which was seriously impossible for mayhem to make
whatever though, mayhem will be in the ufc after his next fight, mayhem vs bisping or mayhem vs maia sound like awesome fights to me

he said a few things when the EA mma ban from dana was announced
but nothing since then that i know of and he gets along with dana from what ive heard
i dont really see mayhem sticking it out with strikeforce
"I have smoked weed with alot of UFC champions" - Joe Rogan
thats pretty tame though
dana said hes open to it and the guy has appeared on several of dana whites vblogs
danas definately not opposed to adding a guy whose popular in japan and already has his own fanbase

NICK DIAZ does not duck anyone. I wish he would go to the ufc though, but as long as he keeps defending his belt and actually fighting i dont care where he fights. He needs to fight a lil more higher fighters like woodey or stand and bang with daley. that would be awesome.

Meh...
it makes sence Strikeforce will put up with his shit and let him fight who and when he wants.
Wow, so hopefully now he'll
shut the FUCK up. Calling out people, and then signing a contract to avoid them. The funny thing is, with Mayhem’s contract ending soon and him most likely heading to the UFC, if Diaz had come to the UFC, there’s a chance the UFC would have put together a fight between the two
If Diaz had come to the UFC, there’s a chance the UFC would have put together a fight between the two
Even less of a chance that that would take place. UFC’s recent history of doing catchweights have only involved Rich Franklin vs Befort or Silva, and it’s not something they want to do often. Also, UFC likes to keep fighters in their respective division and have them carve out a career there. Obviously, there are a few exceptions like GSP vs Penn II, but those are so rare. If they move to another division, it’s usually a move that’s going to last longer for more than one fight. Diaz has no intentions of moving up to MW for a handful of fights, and Miller’s not going to move down to WW at all.

Boooooo
The only other Strikeforce WW in the USA TODAY / SB Nation Consensus MMA Rankings is Paul Daley, who Nick can submit with ease. Jay Hieron and Ben Askren are the only other fighters in the top 25 not signed to the UFC. Which is pretty amazing, the UFC holds 21 of the top 25 spots in those rankings. You can argue that its a moot point and that he would get destroyed by wrestlers in the UFC, but it’d still be nice to see him compete against some better competition.
Hardcore MMA fan since UFC 99
For the love of money
Nick Diaz just became a wealthy man(if he shows up).
He’s been saying he’ll do anything to get the big money. There’s no way Strikeforce is holding onto him without making him a really nice offer.
"I'll rock your body with big nasty hooks!"
If he's gonna stay in Strikeforce
then I want to see him fight Miller. Seriously, what’s he gonna do after fighting Cyborg, Daley, and Woodley?
huh?
i figured they’d structure his contract on a fight basis, as opposed to years [e.g., six fight deal worth $x, as opposed to three years for $x]. unless they mean x amount of fights during a three year timespan, that’s different.
i’d still rather see him in the UFC. no way he’s not going to have a lack of matchups there. put him in there with Thiago Alves or Martin Kampmann right off the bat.

Obviously SF is paying good coin to keep him around, but how about only calling out fighters in your own org?
well, we know that Nick

Not worried at all.
Worst comes to worse, he joins the UFC in his 30s/physical prime.
Otherwise he continues to fight around the world/not in the UFC and makes enough money as he deems satisfactory. For the money to be that good means it will be widely broadcast. Either way I’m happy.

Seriously...
…like a contract with Strikeforce means anything. Ask M-1/Fedor how ironclad they are, LOL.
Now, if Mayhem goes to the UFC...
Diaz is gonna be calling him a bitch and claiming he’s ducking him.
The rest... is virtually identical
Good for Nick, he's actually a smart man.....
He is doing NOTHING but building his aura at Strikeforce. None of the chump WWs there can touch him. He knows it. He knows he’d be about 5th or so in the UFC right now making 45/45 or something. If he can get more cash from Strikeforce before they go bust, and then join the UFC at a higher market rate more power to him. Don’ be stupid homie! Nick isn’t.

why all the hate on Diaz?
People just assume he is making less than UFC welterweights without having a clue.
This is great for him and the fans. He won’t have to wrestle dudes that walk around at 200 lbs in the UFC.
and Mayhem is just too big, come on.
..!..
Prolly has something to do with
Him and/or his camp calling out guys they can’t or won’t fight, and claiming they’ll fight up to LHW but being unwilling to move from 179 to 181 on a catchweight fight with Miller.
Having said all of that, I, and most MMA fans I believe really enjoy watching him fight, just STFU about fighting guys you are unwilling or unable to actual meet in the cage…
