Schaub probably takes this...
But WAR CRO COP!!!
jesus christ looks like this is gonna be a HUGE stepping stone for brendan schaub. really wanted the struve fight. goodnight cro cop
Not that huge...
I think everyone would agree Gonzaga is more dangerous than Cro Cop has been ever since he took his head off (and his soul win it).

I think Lesnar may have something to do with this
Meltzer is now reporting that Lesnar wants out of the UFC. If Mir gets Struve or something like that, then we know where he stands. Apparently, Lesnar wants one big last pay day with the UFC or Wrestlemania. He seems to have lost all motivation to get hit after his Cain fight.
I don’t know if this is true or not. Meltzer was the same guy who said Brock would not want to do Wrestlemania. And Lesnar did say a couple of weeks ago that he wants his title back. A lot of confusion here.
But Schaub takes this via KO

Aha. Building a young up-and-coming prospect by letting him beat an aging legend, you are?
This fight should further Schaub’s rise through the rankings a bit more, now he’ll have both Gonzaga and Cro-cop victories under his belt, and two fast KO’s over fat wrestlers before that. His UFC record will start to look pretty decent.
I would go so far as to say pretty please with pudding on top.
Reporting from inside a padded cage at MMAmadman.com.
I like this fight better than struve an schaub.
I dont like when 2 young prospects are put against each other. Let the ageing figthters hand off the torch to some of these young wipper snappers.
I preferred Schuab vs Struve
Cro Cop should have got a rematch wtih Nog.

His last performance was against Frank Mir
You’re suppesed to cut guys that can’t beat the bottom level fighters, not those who can’t beat top level fighters. With his win over Barry (although close), i think Cro Cop is still a mid level fighter. He is also a draw.
Remember he took the Mir fight on short notice and got his eye mutilated a week or so prior to the bout.

If Cro Cop won the HW strap I could stop watching MMA and be satisfied.

um
That was not just any performance friend. That was like the most boring performance of all time, 2 guys who didn’t want to be there. The only reason Mir should not be cut is because he is a big draw. And he actually KOd Crocop. I am not going to argue about who should be cut. I am more worried about Mirco’s health.

So Gerald Harris should be cut as well?
Cro Cop has had a career of thrilling fights, and now you want to cut him after one boring one? Jeez.
DW always says that this is a sport. You cut guys who underperform, not those that perform as expected, but in a boring fashion. There are still beatable guys in this division for Cro Cop, thus they should be cut before him.
Retire due to health reasons is another story, and here is where we agree.
Crocop has been saying for years that he has trouble
pulling the trigger. He is getting beat up in almost every fight of his. He got pummeled by JDS, Gonzaga, and even Pat Barry knocked him down a couple of times. Mir KOd him. You tell me. Is it healthy for someone who just does not have it anymore to stick around and fight the young guns?

No, that's a fight that actually makes sense.
What Lesnar needs is practice against a HW that won’t maul him on the feet. Since Cro Cop’s apparently forgotten that he has legs, that eliminates the possibility of Lesnar getting kicked blasted to death. It’s a practice match that would sell like wildfire on PPV.

Retirement is Mirko's own choice, not Dana's.
he is a grown man, and he will make his own decisions regarding his health. You cut a guy if he doesn’t draw or if he isn’t good enough, not because of his health (unless it gets to the point of Liddell, but Cro Cop, being 2-2 in his last fights, isn’t there yet).
No no no
I don’t wanna see another Cro Cop loss. Go back to Japan and wreak havoc on some cans, please.
"But I was like "I don't know how they do things where you guys are from, but I dont think monogamy is legal in this country."
They're must be trying to build Schaub as a contender
Each time his opponent changes it’s someone more beatable than the last guy. Lesnar is up in the air, Carwin’s injured and has that whole steroid thing hanging over him, Mir can’t seem to beat the top guys of the division. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Schaub face the winner of Velasquez/JDS after he wins this fight.
Well yeah.
That along with this opponent makes the most sense. Because Mir vs Lesnar III is going to happen with or without them being TUF Coaches. UFC is already kicking itself for putting two prospects against one another at 205 in Jones vs Bader they arent going to do the same in an even thinner heavyweight division. So why sacrifice Struve or Schaub when you can build em both? Cro Cop is never going to be a championship caliber fighter again…Ever. But has huge name recognition and a win over him propels Schaub up the stardom ladder.

Its not that Brendan Schaub that is so godamn good
just that Cro Cop has gotten real bad, mostly mentally
Or they're underrating him
He has some of the slickest striking in the UFC right now, is fast and athletic and is a fast learner who trains with the right people. He’s a contender.

I don’t see you winning here. I’ll always be a fan…but I can’t realistically expect you to win any more…but I’ll still root for you.
I was sure Barry was going to tear him apart, and the first half of the first round was straight out of a nightmare for me. His comeback was one of my favorites I’d ever seen live at that point.
He could have retired then and I would have been cool with it. He took the Mir fight and I was confident that he’d be able to win despite everything.
I think this will look a lot like Barry vs Cro Cop only Schaub won’t let Mirko get back up.

Well, yeah...
CroCop hasn’t looked very good in a while. His best win to date is against Pat Barry, and even then, he almost lost in the first round if Barry wasn’t idol worshipping. Schaub’s pretty quick on his feet, and CroCop looks to have slowed down quite a bit. It wouldn’t surprise me if Schaub wins and CroCop gets cut after this.
I won't jump off the bandwagon just because you lost.

Here's my question
How in the hell does Schaub get the #2 slot on a PPV when Jon Jones is just now even making a PPV broadcast as the #4 fight on a card?

We don’t know yet where it’ll be. Also, the card with the Bones fight is super stacked. On any other normal card I’m pretty sure Bones / Bader would be co-main, but it’s hard to argue against Griffin – Franklin IMO.
Bones has headlined two free TV cards by the way, that’s not something to sneeze at either, great for getting his name out there.

So let me get this straight
Schaub goes from fighting Mir which kind of made sense
To fighting Struve which made a lot of sense
To fighting CC which makes absolutely no sense at all

This is a golden opportunity for Schaub to beat a legend on the decline and spring-board his career.

Serious question
Why do so many pick Schaub taking this fight? i just dont see him winning this. If you do reply, please support it with how he would win besides Mirko is old and washed up. Mir struggled with Mirko.
Unfortunately,
I see this fight going the same way Mirko/JDS did. Schaub is a good boxer that hits hard and doesn’t need to worry about being taken down.
Schaub has no where near the level of boxing as JDS.
I am not really all that impressed with Schaubs stand up, he has alot of room for improvement and his lack of experience would hurt him as well. I honestly do not beleive this will be as easy as how some people make this out.

Cro-cop has looked terrible in all of his recent fights, even the wins. He is too hesitant to pull the trigger and seem unable to mount any significant offense. I believe that Schaub’s striking is too fast and powerful, and that he should have no real problems winning the decision (or possibly TKO) against another lackluster performance from Cro-cop.
