Tim Sylvia Likely to Step In for Todd Duffee on Titan Fighting Championship 16

Tim Sylvia, after his KO victory over Paul Buentello last August -- Photo by Dave Mandel for Sherdog

While it hasn't been officially announced by FEG, Todd Duffee has recently agreed to a heavyweight bout against K-1 and Strikeforce champ, Alistair Overeem on Dynamite!! 2010. People are already labeling it as his "impending sleep", as the 25-year-old took that fight on short notice and will be entering the bout as a huge underdog.

This makes his bout against Abe Wagner in jeopardy. Duffee is already scheduled to compete less than a month after Japan's New Year's Eve show, at Titan Fighting Championship 16, and with the good chance he is unable to headline the card, they already have a replacement fighter set. A source close to the fighter has informed BloodyElbow.com that former UFC champion, Tim Sylvia is already waiting in the wings to step in and headline TFC 16 against Wagner, as soon as the Duffee vs. Overeem bout becomes official.

Sylvia has had a slight fall from grace, coming in out-of-shape and uninterested, in a loss to Ray Mercer back in 2009, but he has picked it up and has racked up four straight victories since then. The two-time UFC heavyweight champion is looking to get back on the big show, and it looks like his next obstacle will be in the form of The Ultimate Fighter veteran, Abe Wagner.

Against Overeem, I totally agree.

any idea if timmy has his weight issues under control?

didn’t he still weigh in over the 265 limit for a few of his fights after the mercer one?

hopefully anance will weigh in (no pun intended).

by woooburn on Dec 27, 2010 9:59 PM EST reply actions

He weighed 285 on his last bout 2 weeks ago.

He didn’t cut any weight for that though, so I think he could make 265 easily if the big show comes calling.

cool. thanks for the info.

haven’t been following his smaller gigs too closely.

Sylvia's ACHING to get back in the UFC.

Makes me wonder how he’ll go over with the fans if Dana and Joe bring him back. If they do, Tim’s probably going to start smack dab in the middle of the HW division. I’d expect his first fight to be Cro Cop, Kongo, or Roy Nelson.

Maybe a tune up with Rothwell?

He should be ready from surgery come April or May.

Sounds good.

Although I doubt Sylvia has a chance against the likes of Cain, JDS, or Brock – that’s a pretty big wall to hit right after some small hurdles.

That Mercer loss is still fresh in my mind.

I still think Tim needs a couple more fights at least on Buentello’s level or better.

I’d like to see Sylvia vs Overeem on NYE

Yeah that would be pretty interesting. Would be a better opponent for Overeem than Duffee at this point.

Yeah, but you don’t get the aesthetic of two Heavyweights that look like ripped comic book characters fighting in a ring.

props for the correct use of "uninterested’. I’m serious; no one seems to know or abide by the distinction between “uninterested” and “disinterested” any more.

As for the story, I wonder what sort of damages Duffee might incur for breaching his contract with TFC. I’m hoping his agent, and he, took that into account before accepting the fight with the Reem.

I hope Dana brings back Tim

I think Tim has more than fought his way back to the show, especially in the paper thin HW division.

Carwin vs. Sylvia is a perfect fight when Shane is ready to return to action.

I would love that fight to happen.....

Tim has the reach and skill to pop Lesnar from the outside, and Lesnar has the wrestling to smoother Sylvia like Couture.

by Naztuu on Dec 27, 2010 10:15 PM EST up reply actions

That'd be cool

Apparently Meltzer is reporting that Lesnar is actively trying to get out of his UFC contract and that he hasn’t trained a day since the loss to Cain.

yep, I read that.

and while I am not that surprised, if it’s true, it’s really a bummer.

Seems a waste but oh well.

At least I’ll have the memories of watching his fights. One of the few fighters who it was always an event when they fought.

Really?

Damn, that sucks.

Then again, several people have pointed out previously that Brock tends to jump ship when things aren’t going his way. Football, WWE, and MMA? Where the Hell would he go next?

Yeah, definite bummer if that’s true. I hope it’s not, cause like Worldisart said, when he fights, it’s always an event.

Lesnar's future

Prediction: Lesnar will do TUF, fight Mir, then leave the UFC.

He doesn’t like getting hit, so this is really the best way to fulfill his contract.

That would be unfortunate. There’s no sense in keeping him around if he isn’t into it anymore. I say let him go back to the WWE if that’s what he wants. As a fan, it sucks for me, but who knows? If it’s true then he may decided to return to MMA as well. If he does so, Dana had better be sure he has Lesnar under some sort of contractual obligation for it to be in the UFC. That way Lesnar doesn’t go after Fedor haha.

After his fight with Cain, Lesnar did say he would be back though. He must be seeing dollar signs. It makes sense. To get a massive payday for one professional wrestling match. Sounds a lot less painful than the beatdown he recieved at the hands of Valasquez. Well….maybe not A LOT less painful… They do some pretty crazy stuff at those wrestlemania shows.

Alright

now who’s hopefully likely to step in and replace Abe?

I don't want to say he's dirty, but Forrest Griffin looks like directly after a workout his crotch might resemble a cajun swamp.

That fight from what I have read and heard has actually been brought up and put on the table a few times now to the match makers at FEG ? I know that prior to Dynamite last year and Fujita was the announced opponent for Overeem it was down to 3 people to fight Overeem,Fujita Arlovski and Big TIm for Dynamite and Fujita won out with FEG MAtchmakers do to ratings . I also think that fight came close to being made in another Dream event eather before or after Dynamite last year ?

shit just got real.

What a weard and out there MMA career BIG TImmy has had, If he stays in shape and thats a BIG if I do think he will always be a solid top 20 HW and test for most all top HW"s in MMA. When it comes to TIm it would not surprise or shock me what so ever if were to loose to a horrible HW ca who should not even be in the same ring as him or vise versa if he went out and beat top1 HW talent . He and his whole career is just such a Anomaly. I do think he belongs in the UFC or Strike Force fighting top HW talent. Becasue like I said above he will always be a good test for all top HW’s in MMA.

Dam typo and lack of proof reading above. How I wish so so many times BE had a edit option. Anyways above It should say beat top10 HW talent not top 1 HW talent.
