Lee Murray's Sentence Increased to 25 Years in Moroccan Prison
Former UFC middleweight Lee Murray, who's been in a Moroccan prison on a variety of charges related to the biggest cash robbery in UK history, has had 15 years added to his original 10 year sentence.
MMA fans will remember Murray best for losing a decision to Anderson Silva in 2004 at Cage Rage 8. He also beat Jorge Rivera at UFC 46 and infamously claimed to have KTFO'd Tito Ortiz in a London street brawl.
Due to having a Moroccan father, Murray couldn't be extradited to the UK.
The BBC gives some details on the heist:
The Securitas gang kidnapped depot manager Colin Dixon, his wife Lynn and their young child and held them hostage while they robbed the premises in Tonbridge.
Heavily-armed robbers trussed up 14 terrified employees with cable ties and threatened to kill them if they disobeyed orders.
Five men were convicted of kidnap, robbery and firearms charges in 2008.
The Guardian UK has more info on Murray's escape to Morocco and eventual capture:
In June last year, Moroccan authorities refused to extradite Murray, originally from Sidcup, south-east London, after establishing his Moroccan nationality.
In October, an accomplice, Paul Allen, was jailed for 18 years for his part in the robbery. Allen, from Chatham, Kent, admitted charges of conspiracy to rob, kidnap and possession of firearms.
After the robbery, Allen fled to Morocco with Murray and the pair enjoyed a cocaine-fuelled party lifestyle. Both men were seized by Moroccan authorities months later.
Jake Rossen sums up the meaning of it all:
This must be demoralizing to those who perceive Murray as a kind of romanticized figure who nearly got away with it. (Running off with millions is a nice idea, but the practicality of it -- threats and guns -- tends to take the shine off.)
ESPN's E:60 did a whole episode on Murray.

Or Lee Murray knocking out Tito Ortiz in a street fight.
I think there is going to be a movie made about this heist.

Life is either a daring adventure or nothing. Security does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than exposure.
I believe it was argued that his original sentence was too lenient.
Aggravating factors, all that bullshit, I would guess.

The police said that his original sentence was too lenient
and the other people involved snitched and said he was the mastermind of the crime.

because banks are innocent
of using threats and guns…. i understand that the thieves held CITIZENS hostage but the world is not so black and white to me. you do reap what you sow, as deo said, but i don’t think this robbery makes the group any worse than banks that have been squeezing and scamming people out of their money since the idea started. i wish he did get away, nobody got hurt, the banks insure their clients money and i fucking hate banks.

the banks insure their clients money
LOL at thinking those costs don’t eventually get passed down to the consumer. The insurance company pay the bill and then raises the bank’s premium, which the banks recoups by sticking John Q. Public with an assortment of byzantine fees and penalties. The banks and insurance companies get their pound of flesh regardless of whether a couple of banks get knocked off or not. Rest assured, the only people who get hurt by bank robbery are poor slobs like us.
we lose when banks don’t get robbed and we lose when they do?

![Lee Murray's freedom was short-lived. The ex-UFC fighter who is one of the most wanted men in the UK for allegedly masterminding a $92 million cash depot heist in Tonbridge, has been re-arrested in Morocco following the hearing that refused his extradition.
"Lee was indeed rearrested right away, because the British Authorities did put [in] a formal request to the Moroccan Authorities to have him tried in Morocco for the alleged robbery," his attorney Abdellah Benlamhidi told FanHouse via email.
