I am from Newfoundland, Canada and a huge MMA fan so seeing the sport grow in my country is very pleasing. However, due to my proximity and the lack of cash I will not be attending the historic UFC 129 so frankly I am no more excited about this card with respect to the venue than I am for any other card. However, I am excited for the fights that have the potential to be on that card. Dana has been saying that this could be the biggest UFC card ever with regards to attendance, gate, ppv sales etc. and I buy into it. So I also believe that he has plans to make this a great card too.
Looking at the schedule's of certain fighters I think it is very possible that the card contain two title fights. One being an obvious GSP vs Shields matchup for the WW title and the other being JDS vs Cain for the HW title. This has been a topic of discussion in some forums lately and a lot of people tend to think there is no way Dana is going to put off two title fights on the same night but I beg to differ. The WEC merger allowed Dana to have more figt cards with title fights so they are not as scattered anymore, so for the card in the "mecca of MMA" as Dana puts it, I see him pulling out all the stops.
What other fights could the event have? Well I think they have the potential to make one of their best cards ever and have great fights top to bottom. Of course they will schedule some Canadian fighters into the card, Kenny Florian may fight on the card and I can see another couple bigger names as well. Brock said he loves Canada, other than the health care of course, so perhaps he could make an appearance. I think the sky is the limit with this card and I hope Dana takes full advantage
The obvious reason for stacking the card is due to how much hype Dana has created about how big getting the Toronto show done is, however another reason I see is the fact Dana wants to showcase what he can bring to a market he is desperately seeking to conquer. New York has received the same treatment as Toronto in regards to Dana wanting to hold an event there very badly. So if I'm Dana, why not show New York what they are missing out on. Show them that they will not be disappointed, that not only will they bring in loads of revenue but they will also bring in a hell of a card as well.
Any thoughts?
What fights would you like to see or think you will see?
Could this be a super card or will Dana disappoint with his long awaited event in Toronto and simply shell out a "normal" card?
