Well in that case, I’m taking Miller for all the marbles. His two fight win streak over Tim Stout and the bully have me convinced…

Also, I don’t thing that is the kind of fight that gets put together on short notice.

Doesn't Daley want to fight Koons?

For some reason, it seemed like he wanted that fight. Although, a win over Diaz would probably make him pretty appealing for the UFC. (Regardless of what Dana White says.)

Lawler has a good shot at taking this fight.

He has solid TDD and devastating striking. The takedowns and cardio I’ve seen from Jacare up to this point have been…lacking.

As for Kennedy/Miller, I’ll take Kennedy all day. Bigger, stronger, better wrestler, more power in his strikes. Should be a good scrap either way though.

Lacking? Really? I beg to differ.

In Jacare’s last fight, for a BJJ guy, his hands were top-notch. As far as comparing them to Lawler—bit of a stretch. Either way you cut the ’ol crap cake, this fight is not going into championship rounds.

I hope Lawler rocks the Mountain Man beard. The aura of Chuck Norris envelopes Robbie thus him evolving into CHARIZARD!

Who said I was talking about the Kennedy fight?

I was thinking of the Villasenor fight where he gassed out something awful and bent at the waist and bull-rushed for every takedown. So, as I said before, read before you respond and don’t just assume you already know what I’m talking about after you read the headline.

Come on. You know that with MMA, MMA fans are going to base things on a fighter’s most recent fight. Nowhere in your original post did you mention that you are referring to the Villasenor fight, so it should be understandable that people were thinking about the Kennedy vs Jacare fight. However, I do actually agree with the takedowns part of your argument. Jacare had a hard time taking Kennedy down when he actually went for takedowns in that fight, and you already went over the Villasenor fight. This coming fight is a good test for Jacare in that Lawler has good takedown defense and is primarily a striker.

I’m not going to argue with you on Jacare/Lawler, but what makes you think Miller handles Kennedy, let alone easily? Their last fight went to a rather close decision even though Kennedy had just gotten out of a four year stint in the military, where he didn’t fight for years. Kennedy has progressed a lot from 2003 and the way he’s handled the caliber of his opposition makes me think he takes Miller and the rubber match in their trilogy.

Lawler’s ground game is awful, and Jacare has fantastic takedowns. Unless Jacare chooses to stand & Wang, this fight won’t make it out of the first round.

Fantastic takedowns?

I don’t know man. I didn’t see many fantastic takedowns against Villasenor or Kennedy (although, to be fair, he did get Villasenor down pretty much at will). He doesn’t have very good form, which leads to him gassing after multiple takedowns. If Lawler can avoid getting subbed in the first I think he could give a tired Jacare some problems – however, Lawler’s history would suggest that this outcome is not entirely likely. I still think it’s a competitive fight.

Also, for fuck’s sake his nickname is the crocodile.

Jacare isn’t dumb.

He chose to work on his standup versus Kennedy because Kennedy isn’t terribly dangerous on his feet. It was a good fight to get some live experience at striking range. Kind of like Demian Maia’s fight with Dan Miller.

Against Lawler, you can bet your ass he’ll be looking to clinch/shoot and get the fight to the ground.

Jacare had to work his stand-up against Kennedy because he couldn’t take him down.

His wrestling was somewhat disappointing, although TK’s TDD was very good. Jacare was deep on a double that he started while TK was throwing and he still couldn’t complete it. I don’t think Lawler will beat him but he’s the closest thing that the MW division has to a fighter who’s a legitimate threat on his feet and has decent TDD.

Manhoef puts the fear of God in his opponents

those punches might literally kill someone.

Luckily for Lawler, he’s agnostic or something cause he stayed in there and fired back.

If you wanna see what hyper-violent, super-athletic, technical kickboxing looks like in MMA, Manhoef is the guy. I don’t know if anyone is better, outside of Alistair Overeem, in MMA.

I think so too

One of Strikeforce’s biggest problems is not getting guys fights. How many fighters fought on three of their main cards this year? I can only think of Noons and Lawler doing so. They need their guys to get fights in their promotion and if Lawler is ready, then why not? He didn’t even take any damage in his fight.

I thought I read somewhere that Lawler only had 1 fight left on his contract and was angling for a return to the UFC. If so, this fight doesn’t make much sense for him. Win and he’s locked in w/ the champions clause. Lose and he’s lost a lot of his bargaining power w/ the UFC.

Hypothetical

Would Diaz at WW easily beat Walker at HW?

Can Walker have a bobsled in the cage?

Yeah...protect you thumb...it's the only thing that differentiates you from the monkey...

That black belt goes a long way

Herschel’s big and strong enough to hang in there, but one mistake and its over.

terrible fight for lawler

The takedowns’s Souza displayed in his last outing were powerful

i just don’t think Robbie can catch him quick enough to halt the onslaught of passes and sub attempts, of which there will not be alot, but one of them will no doubt pay off

seriously

its like coker doesn’t get it.. or he genuinely thinks that Robbie’s win over Lindland means he can genuinely compete with elite level grappling of any kind

can’t get too upset about it, Lawler is the next highest ranked MW that SF has, discounting Henderson. And If they gave Hendo the match people would whine because he lost his last MW fight and then moved up to 205.

Mayhem’s last fight in SF was against a nobody and not on TV, Kennedy just lost to the champ, who else is going to get the title match?

It sucks sometimes to have a title match where people think the challenger has no chance, but people thought Serra had no chance the first time, and the champ has to fight, the promoter has to put on fights, sometimes you just do the best you can and hope for fireworks.

agreed

while that is true, it just kinda sucks knowing lawler may be next in the jaws of jacare ._.

i want so badly for him to be the man at MW, but i fear its never gonna happen if he keeps being lined up with grappler’s

not that SF have much of a pool to dig into i suppose, bah..

That seems the most likely.

I heard this rumor a while ago

Diaz will snap one of Cyborg’s limbs off.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a stand up fight. Although, against KJ, Nick tried some TD even though he was doing well on his feet. He complained after that he isn’t a punk and didn’t want to go for TD’s but its MMA and he had to.

Breakdown

Really intriguing fight but it’s obviously a striker vs. grappler scenario and the big difference is going to be Jacare’s takedowns. If he can take him down and hold him down he’s got a good shot at winning it but he tends to gas himself out doing that which means the longer it goes the more it probably favors Lawler to take advantage on the feet with some sprawl and brawl.

I like this if only because

there’s a chance Souza loses if he tries to stand with Lawler for too long and he could escape the championship clause and get to the UFC. He is the best possible matchup against Anderson Silva, he could do what Maia couldn’t.
