Today on "MMA Nation" we've got a lot of ground to cover.
We'll be cover all of the results from UFC 124: Georges St. Pierre vs. Josh Koscheck:
- What's next for GSP? Is a move to middleweight a foregone conclusion at this point?
- Does Mark Bocek actually have the best jiu-jitsu in the UFC lightweight division?
- Does Koscheck's loss make it more likely he'll eventually have to face fellow AKA fighter Jon Fitch?
- Is Thiago Alves back? Should GSP wait around for another fight with him?
- Jim Miler thinks he should be close to a title shot. Do you agree?
We're also going to be joined by WEC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz. Cruz puts his title on the line against Scott Jorgensen at WEC 53: Ben Henderson vs. Anthony Pettis this Thursday, December 16th in the last WEC event ever. We'll talk to Cruz about the UFC - WEC merger, how he plans to defeat Jorgensen and more.
Lastly, we'll recap all of the action from the K-1 World Grand Prix where Alistair Overeem became the first person to hold titles in MMA and K-1 at the same time.
"MMA Nation" will air tonight 9:00 p.m. ET to 11:00 p.m. ET on 106.7 The Fan. To listen live over the Internet, go to The Fan's website and click "Listen Live".

Is Bj still counted in the LW division?
If so he has better Jui Jitsu than Bocek.

I think Bocek’s comment was used to make waves, then he gets a chance to defend his claims — true or false. He was RNC’d by Mac Danzig a couple years ago…
I would like to see Alves vs. GSP 2 but I think Fitch/Lytle should get a shot before Thiago does. Alves needs to chalk up a few more W’s and prove he can consistently come in shape and make weight before he gets another chance.
Half the year in Canada, Half the year in Thailand.
Danzig was picking him apart standing though
And cut him which led to the finish. Its not like he out wizarded him on the ground.

- What’s next for GSP? Is a move to middleweight a foregone conclusion at this point?
After Shields, probably. Though part of me doesn’t even want to see him fight Shields and wants him to just move up. After seeing what he did to Kos standing, Shields will be destroyed. Yeah, Shields might get GSP down, but I doubt it. I think he gets his face turned into ground beef.
- Does Mark Bocek actually have the best jiu-jitsu in the UFC lightweight division?
I don’t know. Maybe he’ll get his wish and face Sotiropoulos next. That would be a good way to find out, wouldn’t it? Though I don’t think he’ll get it. Heck, Jim Miller should be Sotiropoulus’ next fight, if Miller is willing to wait.
- Does Koscheck’s loss make it more likely he’ll eventually have to face fellow AKA fighter Jon Fitch?
No. IMO, it actually makes it even less likely. I’d like to think that if a title was on the line, these two would fight (despite Fitch’s denial and remarks about how he’d just move up to MW if Kos had the title). But now that they both lost in brutal fashion to GSP, I don’t think there is enough incentive for them to just fight. I suppose Dana could just back the money truck up, but something tells me Dana would rather cut one of them on principle rather than pay them more for being stubborn. Dana seems to be the most stubborn man of all time.
- Is Thiago Alves back? Should GSP wait around for another fight with him?
No. Proper weight cutting is a good step for him, but he got dominated by Fitch. There’s no point for GSP to rematch him. Someone like Kos was a different story since they fought in 2007 and they had changed (seemingly) so much since then and it wasn’t for a title shot that time. I don’t think Alves has the wrestling to prevent the same thing from happening again.
- Jim Miler thinks he should be close to a title shot. Do you agree?
No. I love the Miller guys, but Jim needs one more fight maybe before he gets a shot. He needs to beat a top 10 guy like Sotiropoulos first.
Also, how bad was Kenny Florian’s injury? Maybe he and Miller can duke it out, since they both lost to Maynard. If Miller wins, he gets a shot.
As much as I love Jim Miller
He needs one more big fight… maybe sean sherk? Theres a big name and someone to challenge the wrestling he will need for either Maynard or Edgar
Teammates fighting
I doubt it will happen. I don’t think Dana really wants them to fight — it’s more about not having guys publicly disagreeing with anything Dana says.
Could anyone tell the differenc in movement in striking before and after GSP trained under Roach?
And am I the only one that thinks that Do Bronx will get better off this loss to Jim Miller? I was on that hype train as well and I think he got a lot of potential.

It's a shame that St. Pierre isn't getting the finishes...
but I can’t believe the degree to which people have complained in the face of him completing dominating his bouts.
Hay Ya'll!
Who trains striking at AKA? Koscheck was getting eaten by GSP’s jab from the first minute of the fight. How does no one tell Koshceck he needs to counter it by throwing leg kicks. Baisc Muay Thai 101 – Counter a stiff jab with hard leg kicks. Koscheck threw none.
Also, in your mind, what was the biggest victory for GSP over his long win streak? Dominating a great striker like Alves and possibly Hardy, or dominating a very strong wrestler like Fitch and Koscheck?

GSP has earned the right to dominate his opponents and not recklessly go about it. He beats everyone by attacking their weaknesses. As well NOBODY has pressed him into defending and attacking. If you want to beat him, then you’re gonna have to take his belt. He’s not even close to being like Silva.

Like said in another thread. Rua can be greatest not only P4P.
but among the G.O.A.T. LHW is by far the most competitive division in MMA. If Rua beats Evans and Jones (if he beats Bader) he has to be put in their with and possibly above Anderson and GSP.

Since Fedor joined SF has their heavyweight division gotten stronger with additions (Kharitonov and Barnett) and development of guys like Cormier? Hasn’t the UFC been weakened with Brock getting beat, Carwin getting nabbed with roids, Nelson sidelined with legal issues?
Exactly.
SF does have the better HW division any way you try to slice it.
Let me break it down for you all.
Striking-Alistair, newly crowned K-1 champ
Submission-Werdum, current and multiple time ADCC champ
Wrestling-Cormier, Olympic level wrestling and uses it effectively to finish fights
Best all-around HW- Fedor, you can argue for Cain though.
Guys like Barnett, Sergei, Bigfoot also provide for legitimate and interesting matches as well.
While Guys like Del Rosario and maybe LAshley(if he can get his shit together) will feed the division too.
Yes, i honestly don’t think SF would be where is at today if it wasn’t for Fedor.
For example, do you all think Dan would of left the UFC for SF if Fedor wasn’t there?
Absolutely right. SF is a great second option.
I know a lot of people like rant and criticize on SF but i think its good for fighter to have another big company to choose from if they don’t like the UFC contracts.

Awesome Card From Top to Bottom
People were complaining about how weak this card looks b4 hand, but look at what we got. An amazing fight card with more than half of the telvised card being finishes and for the fights that weren’t, they would of been contenders for FotN bonuses on any other fight night.
Co-Main Event had less notable fighters but still a decently exciting come from behind victory for the sky-scraper.
Great Main Event even thou it was one sided. It did show that GSP can still strike, never mind that it has improved vastly.
This card was well worth my money and time. My Friends and family throughly enjoyed it.
