Submission ace, Javier "Showtime" Vazquez, tells MMA Weekly that touted prospect, Chad Mendes, won't be able to blanket him this Thursday at WEC 52:
"There’s no pressure (on me), I’m not the ‘unbeatable prospect’," said Vazquez. "All the pressure is on Chad Mendes, not on me. I’m going to go out there and do my thing; he’s the one who’s supposed to be the next big thing."
"My last two fights I worked with Erik Paulson and tried to improve my stand-up, trying to get a different look at the game, and improve my overall skills, but this fight I went back to my wrestling and submission game. I couldn’t have had a better camp to figure out how to beat a wrestler."
"This entire camp I’ve worked with Antonio McKee, and nobody can do a better job of slowing a fight down and controlling from the top like Antonio does," he stated. (Chad) is not going to bring anything different or better than what Antonio brought. Antonio was having a real hard time holding me down, so I don’t think (Chad) will be able to do it, to be honest."
"The more he tries the hold me down, the more he’ll get beat up; and the more he tries to scramble, the more likely he’s going to get caught."

War Vasquez
Take an arm off of Mendes and we’ll all celebrate.
Mendes tends to be exciting from time to time, but the complete – total – lack of aggression he displayed when on top of Swanson left a sour taste in my mouth.
To be honest I have only watched Mendes 3 fights in the WEC and 2 of them that were on streams for Tachi palce shows and exsept for the Morrison guillotine finish all were horrible boring fights,
People talk about wrestlers like Askern and Fitch being boring Well in my opinion Mendes fighting style makes bolth look to have the aggression of a Wanderlei silva. All he does it get continues take downs and then does nothing until a stand up and then repeats to do the same exact thing get the takedown wait for the ref to stand them back up, etc, etc, etc over and over. The good thing is I really don’t think Mendes will be able to do this against Vasquez now ?

The man speaks the truth. I’ll be rooting for Vazquez in this one; Mendes’ last fight was a snoozer. His nickname is also “Money” ugh..
"Referees, be sure to step in and stop the fight on time tomorrow, because I might get carried away in the moment and my many punches may end up destroying my opponent." - Tatsuya "CRUSHER" Kawajiri
most of mendes’ fights leave me with a sour taste in my mouth…like watching a wet blanket. enough takedowns each fight to win b/c judges score top position….that’s pretty much his style.

He guillotined Anthony Morrison in 3 minutes.

So?
Morrison offered him his neck on a silver patter…that doesn’t make Mendes an exciting fighter.
Fitch used to finish people too…does that mean he’s not boring?
Kongo has a win via heel hook…does that make him a leglock specialist?
All you’ve proven is that you’re good at searching FightFinder ;)

Not really.
Though i’m probably a little bit bias, since i’m an avid Team Alpha Male fan.
All those guys are cool as hell.
