Should be fun
Watching two contenders keep the division rolling along while we wait for Jones to massacre another opponent.
"You stick a microphone in a guy's face and he calls out anybody but the champion, and Joe Silva should fax him a pink slip right then." -- Chael Sonnen.
Really?
Just about every Light Heavyweight fight between two big name fighters has title implications written all over it.

Tech Fall 171 . . . hmmm yeah, I’m not going to say GTFO but I kind of feel Papercut Elbow’s sentiment. Hey in my opinion Jones vs Bader does not have title implications written all over it.
The thing is Forrest Griffin can not undo his UFC 101 performance. He was stopped by Keith Jardine in the 1st round and could not soundly defeat Tito Ortiz . . . a feat every other 205lbs. fighter seems capable of doing. Sure he defeated the current LHW champion via submission stoppage but lightning does not strike twice in the same spot. If Griffin had problems touching Andersonn Silva, let alone hitting him, Machida will frustrate him silly.
Rich Franklin. I really do not need to discuss his future in the LHW division. He clearly doesn’t need a rematch with Lyoto Machida and I’m scared to see what Mauricio Rua would do to Franklin’s nose.

If Jones vs Bader doesn’t have titile implications, then who would be “in the mix” to fight the winner of Shogun vs Evans? Rampage beat Machida, but that’s just one fight, and it’s not like it’s a win streak nor was it that great of a fight (to the casual fan). Just seeing who’s out there in the UFC Light Heavyweight division, Jones vs Bader seem to be the only fight that could have TItle implications, especially with Jones and Bader both being on win streaks. Bader has just beaten a top ten fighter in Rogerio Nogueira, and Jones has been steamrolling all his competition. Both Franklin and Griffin are coming off just one win so far, so I understand that the two wouldn’t be in Title talks yet, but I can imagine both fighting top ten competition.

Every time some one talks about the how great Jones and how he should be given a title shot . . . Dana White, Greg Jackson and Jones’ training partners acknowledge that he’s still young in the game. Dana White simply tells guys to slow down. Yes, Jones is steamrolling his competition I agree but I don’t think any one will call Vera or Matyushenko top 10 competition.
Excuse me, Rogerio Noguiera is a top 10 fighter in the UFC? Or is he a top 10 fighter based off his past experience. You do recall that Sokoudjou stopped him? Bader defeated Noguiera was more like KARMA for Noguiera’s victory over Jason Brilz. Yawn.

The rankings are subjective, but I don’t feel that it is unheard of to put Rogerio in the top ten of UFC Light Heavyweights. You have Shogun, Machida, Rampage, Evans at the top four/five (maybe Forrest Griffin in there depending on how one sees it), and Jones and Bader might be in the top ten as well, Forrest Griffin should be up there as well, leaving three spots for top ten Light Heavyweights in the UFC. Hell, Rogerio can be number ten but that still makes him top ten. Also, even if you don’t address Rogerio as a top ten UFC Light Heavyweight, I think that it is safe to say that defeating Rogerio is still a quality win.
The other thing that really was not addressed was that if Jones vs Bader does not have Title implications, then who gets the next shot of the Shogun vs Evans winner?

I don’t know but Dana White and co. are a little bit more cautious about declaring this fight will determine who fights for a title. They may get a shot at the end of 2011 or early 2012. Ehhh . . . it doesn’t matter.
Oh, I can definitely see Dana White setting up Rampage as a sacrificial lamb if Shogun defeats Rashad Evans. At this point Shogun-Machida III doesn’t make sense.
I’ll just enjoy the fight and appreciate Joe Silva for the excellent job that he does year in, year out.

Man, I don’t get it. This is like reverse Edgar- Maynard. Now we’re whining about implications? This is gonna be fun as hell and half- relevant. Stop complaining whether these guys deserve to be top of the division or not. Both guys receive way too much shit for past performances.
I’m not complaining. The hype about certain fighters simply smells funny.
For the record, here’s a SIMPLY look at the top of the LHW division.
- Shogun, Machida and Evans.
- #4 through #10 really doesn’t matter but I’ll enjoy watching them fight for relevancy.

Well, I for one, am excited
Bunch of Debbie Downers in this post. Franklin is a legit threat to anyone not named Anderson Silva, and that’s a fact. Speculating, he may just as easily get handled by Vitor again or Shogun but it really all depends on which shogun shows up. Ace is one of the truest fighters on the UFC roster; not a primadonna, not a shit talker, not untested or lacking motivation, he comes in to win fights and I have yet to see him scared of another fighter or slowed by an injury while fighting. He’s just dependable. He’s also looking to crack the top 10 LHW imo.
Forrest has had a roller coaster ride but still resides in the top 10 lhw. Like Rich, he pushes forward and never coasts. He has quite a varied arsenal of attacks, and except for the Anderson fight, Ive never seen a moment of quit in him.
Winner of this fight is a fight or two away from title contention.
I am excited about this fight as well...
Forrest and Rich always come to fight and I think this one has the potential to be fight of the night, if not of the year. I think it’s going to be a war…I can’t wait. :)

![Rich Franklin tells MMA Torch he doesn't need surgery after all: "Everything at this point in time is going real well. I had a cast above my elbow to my mid bicep, and I got that cut off on Monday. They put a [new] cast below the elbow, it's like a plastic molded cast with the Velcro straps so I can actually take it on and off when I'm showering - which is great because it gives my arm a break from being stuck in something - but recovery seems to be going real well, the doctor likes what he sees in the bone growth and the alignment and all that kind of stuff, so it's looking promising to not [need to] have surgery at this point in time."](http://cdn0.sbnation.com/fan_shot_images/132078/1057_small.jpg)
