ug! why does a guy with no SF fights and coming off a loss get to headline a card?

Because they're showcasing Cormier.

When a ball goes into a net, it only means something because we decide it means something. When somebody punches somebody in the face it always means something.

Cole is no superstar, but he is certainly not a ‘can’. He is perfectly acceptable level of opponent for a 6-0 prospect.

Not at heavyweight.

It’s time for Cormier to step up and beat an established gatekeeper/journeyman/fading legend. Jeff Monson, Ricco, and Pedro Rizzo all make sense and can get him in the top 25.

Cormier could beat Brock or Mir in his next fight if he was in the UFC.

Jeff Monson is the exact OPPOSITE of what he needs. Monson’s game is predicated upon taking it to the ground. And his face is made of concrete. Cormier’s taking him to the ground would lead to him getting sub’d. Pedro Rizzo, I’m not sure how he would do but I think Cormier would win that one.

Cormier beating Brock or MIr in his NEXT fight? I think’s not

I think Mir would be pretty even.

Just cause of his experience.

Shane Carwin is no where near the level of wrestler that Cormier is. If you grab Frank and manhandle him, you can beat him.

As for Brock, I’m not sure what to think. On one hand, Brock can hit hard and wrestle well. One the other, so can Daniel. The only difference is Brock appears to hate being hit and has been away from top wrestling competition for a long time. When you add in the fact that Cormier’s teammate and training partner just destroyed Brock, it kinda seems like Daniel would have the advantage.

Open Question

Does anyone know where Monson’s at and if he’ll be fighting in the foreseeable future. Thanks.

Google Ron Paul!

He’s at ATT and I have no clue as to where he’ll fight next. I use to have his email address but I lost it :-(

If Cormier wins this, which I expect that he will, he really needs to fight tougher competition after this. Also if he wins this, Cormier needs to get booked for the bigger Showtime cards and not on the prelims, and out of the Challengers cards. We are finally starting to see some of the Challengers fighters get onto the main cards of the bigger Strikeforce cards, and I expect Cormier to be on the big cards sooner rather than later.

I still remember Devin Cole from the IFL. Armbarred by Krysztof Soszynski, TKO’d by Feijao and I think also head kick KO’d by someone?

Meh on his opponent

but Cormier’s only televised fight in SF was his first one like 16 months ago. His two recent recent fights in SF were on the Undercard of a challengers card and again on the undercard of the Houston show.

This is the only set match in the company after next weekends cards. I thought they were making progress when the Henderson/Babalu card was just about set before Noons/Diaz II.

At first I felt bad for Cole

but according to Google he’s a convicted rapist. So I’m going to enjoy the beating he has coming to him.

He did 60days because it got reduced to sexual harassment and 4th degree assault

by disinferno06 on Nov 27, 2010 11:03 PM EST up reply actions

And a bit more on it

International Fight League veteran Devin Cole has reportedly pleaded guilty to charges of assault and sexual harassment following a June 15 arrest outside of a Medford, Oregon bar. Cole now faces 60 days in jail and mandatory fines to cover the female victim’s medical and legal fees

According to Sherdog.com, Cole and the victim, who was an acquaintance of his, left the bar to find an area where they could spend some time by themselves when she collided with a board outside. The Medford Police Department stated that Cole touched the victim in a "sexual manner against her will" after she sustained the injury.

Cole was originally charged with two counts of first-degree sodomy and two counts of first-degree unlawful sexual penetration but those charges were reduced after he chose to enter into a plea agreement.

Makes you wonder what really happened.

That story is a little iffy.

So did she get hurt on the way to give a BJ, then he made her do it anyway?

Assault 4 is nothing in Oregon, and sexual harassment isn’t usually a crime. They must’ve had no evidence at all(cause it didn’t happen) or his lawyer was great, because that sounds like a possible rape and sodomy.

by TheFilt on Nov 28, 2010 2:30 AM EST up reply actions

I think it’s a bit more than made her give a BJ, hence the sodomy charges. He was charged with unlawful penetration and sodomy, but she wilfully left the bar to “spend some time by themselves”? And then she collided with a board, wtf? Purely out of curiosity I’d like to read both sides of that story

by disinferno06 on Nov 28, 2010 5:54 PM EST up reply actions

Strange story for sure

In most states oral sex is sodomy. Basically anything other than a penis in a hand or vagina can be sodomy.

At least we get to see him fight this time.

Cormier is small for a HW though...

…that might prove to be a problem against Silva who hasn’t exactly looked shitty on the ground in his previous fights like a Kongo or something.

by Newman24 on Nov 28, 2010 9:42 AM EST reply actions

No smaller than Cain.

Cormier is a strong, solid guy 250.

If he was ripped he be around 230 lbs. He’s got the body to really give taller HW’s hell on the ground. A compact, super strong 250lb US Olympic Captain is bitch to take down or get off of you.

He makes other big wrestlers look like weak greenhorns. Cormier’s transitions are crazy, too. He just lands on top of people pretty much every time.

I would love to

see the Cormier and Cain training sessions

Lame Fight!

This is a REALLY LAME fight in my opinion!

by MMAfan4242 on Nov 28, 2010 9:58 AM EST via mobile reply actions

With overeem out...

It would be awesome to see him take a break from the “bum fighting championships” (rip gharris) and take the shot at bigfoot. He would keep it standing imo and have a good chance. More because I am not keen on silva btw then awed by cormier. That being said he has a stellar wrestling pedigree, has ko power, and trains with cain etc at aka. All of whom rave about him and his abilities. He is ready me thinks.

But it wont happen anyway so whatever. :)
