Phil Davis discovered a gash on his shin that required 36 stitches to close, following his win over Tim Boetsch at UFC 123.
The cut went unnoticed by the medical staff conducting Davis's post-fight exam, and Davis himself only noticed it later on while watching the event's headlining fights.

WTF
THIS ISN’T THE ULTIMATE STITCHING CHAMPIONSHIP.

"pervert even"
Easy snagglepuss.

Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.
I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.

If you’ve ever seen a vagina that looks like that, I strongly suggest you call 911.

I think we should call 911 on him and Chris Hansen.

Judging by the timekeeping and medical staff
This event should have been called “UFC Incompetence”

How high must Davis’ pain tolerance be that he didn’t even notice…?
"I'm AJB and I endorse this nut-puncher."
A) it’s not that big, B) adrenaline.
Judging by his thumb, that gash is an inch long… I had a stab wound on my forearm about 3/4 inch long that required 4 stitches to close. Either Phil Davis has really good doctors or is, in fact, a pussy… only one of these makes sense given his awesomeness.

Yea
I was young playing hide and seek and cut my head open requiring stiches and didn;t feel a thing. With adrenaline, and not having a ton of nerves in some places…Its no big deal.
Hide and seek always got me fucking pumped too.

That’s not a thumb, looks more like an index finger.

hate to imagine what your fingers look like if that’s a thumb.

I saw it...
during the fight. I kept thinking, “Where’s the blood coming from”. Then when he went back to his corner, they started working on it. So, I call bullshit. Phil Davis and his corner knew it was there.
" Show him your jab Kenny! Serra! Serra! Where's the lip gloss Serra? Keep it up Kenny! Your hair looks marvelous in there! " - Unknown KenFlo corner man
How could the medical staff miss that?
When he kicked Boetsch one time, his entire arm / shoulder became covered in a thin smear of blood. It was immediately apparanet, that Davis’ leg was bleeding. You could also see it later when he had Boetsch on the ground. Weird.
To save me some time on 25% of all threads, here's the universal answer to the Fedor-debate: Fedor is the most accomplished MMA fighter ever. That is a fact. If he still is the best fighter at this point in time is up for debate.
Bullcrap
The medical staff may have missed it but in the interview with Helwani Davis refers to it and holds up his shin complaining about the cut. Stitch Duran also gave an interview with mmajunkie radio where he said the cut was amongst the worst he’d seen, he said that whilst cleaning it out he could see that it went right down to the bone.
The post fight docs may have over looked it but ev eryone else seems to have been pretty aware of how bad it was.
NO WAY does that require THIRTY SIX stitches to close
I’ve been stitched up a whole bunch of times in my life and even the worst of my wounds (a 6 inch gash on my thigh) required just 19 stitches.
The only way that would require 36 stitches is if the doctors decided to do a bit of embroidery on him.

Starting to sound like MMA Weekly ran a bullshit story with the photo.

Exactly what I was thinking too
That shouldn’t need more than 10 stitches.
"Vo-cab-u-lary's necessary when diggin' into my library..."
It’s 36 stitches because they’re doing it in layers, due to the thin-ness of the skin over the bone right there. It’s not rocket science, people.
And then God created Saturn... and he liked it, so he put a ring on it.

Not rocket science, but it is medical science. You know, 10+ years of school after you graduate?
by Mint on Nov 26, 2010 4:22 PM EST up reply actions 1 recs
And you wouldn’t need a second of that schooling to know that thirty-six stitches is the norm in the area. At the very least, if you don’t know about something, you shouldn’t be spouting off about it.

Yeah 36 seems extreme. Why not four or five staples ?
I had a similar gash on my head. Four staples .. Maybe it was the position in the body ?

Davis's comments:
"This is how bad it didn’t hurt… it didn’t hurt at all. You walk off the stage, and the doctor’s like, ‘does anything hurt?’ I’m like, ‘no bro, I feel awesome, I just won.’ Then you go into the back and the doctor’s ask again like, ‘is anything hurt?’ They sit you down; they’re checking you out. I missed it, the UFC doctors missed it, and we saw a little blood trickling, but neither I nor the doctor had any idea it was as bad as it was."
Thank God I didn’t go home like that. Knowing me being me, I wouldn’t have gotten medical attention right away and I would have gangrene and I’d probably lose my foot or something. Not even joking. It was cut all the way to the bone. It was about two inches to maybe two and a half inches long," Davis explained.
If that's two inches
then his hands must be 15 inches across.
Maybe he is using
his girlfriends scale of measurement?

I also saw this
I wonder if that is a picture of the cut or just another picture because it looks rather small and not that deep to me.
Also his ankle looks really thin.
It just looks weird that picture.
it’s hard to be sure, but I think the ankle is further away from the lens than the knee, so the tapering of the leg is distorted by perspective.
