Great Moments in MMA Radio: Forrest Griffin Edition
My producer Othello Bouchareb recently caught up with former UFC light heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin
. Like most Griffin interviews, the whole thing eventually went south. Othello's questions were probing, but asked earnestly and without malice. What he received is Griffin's customary curmudgeonly attitude.
Griffin once physically threatened me (sort of) in an interview. It was my second MMA interview ever. I never released it. While I obviously respect his fighting ability and consider him to be a top talent (and hugely responsible for MMA's success in the States), his attitude remains a mystery. If he's going to agree to do PR, it sure would be helpful if he were professional. I suspect partly he hates doing PR and partly he's accustomed to the rest of the MMA media feeding him a steady diet of banal "boxers or briefs?" and "Cinnamon Toast Crunch or Sugar Smacks?" questions. Either way, the only way to do a Griffin interview is to get awkward. Mission accomplished, I suppose.
