Heath Herring: Looking to Fight as Soon as Possible
"I’m kind of in a weird deal with the UFC right now. Supposedly I’m free and clear, but the UFC is able to match any offer I get for a year. I’ve had some offers, but I’m not sure if the UFC would let me sign somewhere else."-- Check out the full interview with Heath Herring at Sherdog.com.
"I did quite a few movies [in 2009]. This year, I’ve done two or three movies and some reality show pilots, but the economy has really slowed things down lately. I’m supposed to be in a movie with Jean Claude Van Damme and Wesley Snipes, ...but I think that’s going to be put off until after the holidays."
"I definitely miss fighting. This isn’t what I’m used to doing. Sometimes it gets me down, but I’ve been in eight movies in about two years."
"...There’s a clear difference between training just to stay in shape and training to get ready for a fight. I’ve been making ends meet. I know I’ll be doing more seminars, and I might be going to Korea to work with the troops over there. I like working with the troops and working with people."

As stated on WKR (in regards to Herring
BOOK HERRING VS ROY NELSON RIGHT THE FUCK NOW.
But as for that movie clip, you’d think the FIGHTING parts would be the best part.

Nah
Bring Todd Duffee back and book him against Heath Herring. Roy Nelson needs to wait for Shane Carwin. I just don’t know if Dana will take this guy back. He said in an interview that Heath Herring had fought his last fight in the UFC. Though everybody is in the mix according to Dana.

Dana also said
that Tito would never fight in the UFC again…
The rest... is virtually identical

Dana says alot of things
Last interview I heard of him on Heath he simply said paraphrasing “On he’s just not the same guy anymore and that we’ll probably never see him again in the UFC”

well. sad to say but Heath Herring won't get a fight
he can possibly win. He is in for another beat down.

Roy Nelson was my first thought, make it happen
Herring will never be a title contender, but the HW division can always use more depth.
UFC can match any offer he gets til April

That means
1) He would have to get an offer
2) He would have to accept the offer
3) The UFC would have to match the offer (assuming they want him and agree with the terms).
None of which will happen “RIGHT THE FUCK NOW”
Brett Rogers does need an opponent. haha
I doubt StrikeForce want this guy though. I am sure he won’t be fighting too long after getting the Oscars for his movie part.

Or that means the UFC can give him an offer
He’s a FREE agent. The UFC can always offer him a deal and he can always accept.

I would be
scared for Herrings safety in the Octagon now. He’s been away for so long. Look at how bad Rampage looked when he came back after the long layoff and he was much fresher and in much better shape than Herring. Heath is a tough guy but it’d be wise for him and the UFC to come to terms to let him compete outside of the UFC for a few fights if he’s ready to come back full-time.
Golden Glory
Heath really needs to go back there, that was when he was at his best. This guy could give anyone a fight back in the day but since he left GG he has just been a shell of himself.

By the way
Completely unrelated, I’ve never had an issue with many of Jake Rossen’s blogs but his most recent about Gina Carano got under my skin. HOW CAN YOU NOT HAVE LIKED SPACE JAM?!
Heath is a weird case in a lot of ways
In that I think he could’ve taken off as a big star with the way he carries himself and the whole cowboy gimmick had he ever been able to put together a decent run in the UFC. I guess his best chance was after the Kongo win, but then he got crushed by Lesnar and never came back. Amazing that he’s still only 32, but I think the game’s passed him by at this point. I’d still like to see him back in the Octagon though if only as a gatekeeper.
Hate to say it...
But time has probably passed Herring bye. He was a pretty good fighter, but not training for over 2 years is just going to kill him. He’s a fighter who’s been through sooo many wars, and I think that he either needs to hang up the gloves and focus on movies, or put the movies off till he’s done fighting. Cause you can’’t do both and be a successful fighter, thats for sure.
Sounds like someone’s a little low on the cash flow.
Hey UFC4 go fuck yourself, how about that? Fucking punk, I was just asking for the source that says lesnar gets 5 mill a fight, it’s obvious one does not exist. Bunch of gabronis on a site pulling figures out of your ass.

Well Jake O'brien outwrassled Herring
I remember when he was supposed to fight Cain at UFC 99, that would have been ugly.

Wow, I guess they didn’t have a budget for a makeup artist. No blood after all that fighting?
Back on topic, I’d like to see Heath take on Big Country.
Maybe they should have hired Brock as the makeup artist
I mean, he’s pretty good at making Heath look all bloodied up.

not after the brock fight.
Heath had no dyed hair against brock. it was just a normal colored mohawk

The end of that Mir vs. Herring fight was satisfying.

Didn’t Van Damme have a heart attack like a week ago.. and isn’t Wesley Snipes in prison?
Getting bent out of shape over a fight promoter lying is like getting upset that a hooker won't kiss you. It betrays a deep lack of understanding of the nature of the profession.
Van Damme story was bunk, he denied it and said he was in perfect health and so on. I have no idea about Snipes though

What's the story?
I don’t remember Mir vs Herring.
What happened?
Strikeforce could certainly use a heavyweight who wants to fight.

So I guess that would mean he could fight Bigfoot Silva and Brett Rogers over and over again until the rest of Strikeforce’s roster decides to come out of de facto retirement.
I think those would both be good fights for Heath
Both are at the same level as Heath these days. Arlovski too, assuming he’s still fighting. Sergei Kharitonov, Valentijn Overeem and Josh Barnett are all waiting to make their Strikeforce debut, Herring would be a competitive opponent for any of them.
Lesnar/herring II that’s the fight the fans wanna see. Make it so Dana.
