Kimbo Slice's Boxing Debut Postponed Until 2011
Back in August, Kimbo Slice sounded truly excited to be training for his jump to boxing. Now, the year is almost over, and it's sounding like the honeymoon stage is wearing off for former YouTube sensation. His promoter, Gary Shaw, talked to ESPN about postponing the boxing debut cause Kimbo can't seem to focus on getting ready for it:
"Right now he's vacationing in Florida. He went home for Thanksgiving. His pro debut will be put off until at least the beginning of next year. He needs more work and more sparring."
"I had him in California sparring and in real training with Clemente and Darryl Hudson. He was given all the tools, but he continues to get offers from MMA and offers to be in movies and it's hard to keep him focused on training camp. That's the story more than anything else."
Shaw finally admitted what most of us already knew - that Kimbo Slice "needs more work" because he isn't close to being the boxer he hypes him up to be. The former disgraced Elite XC promoter knows this, but still hopes Kimbo pushes through, cause he's a "big star" that can make him some cash:
"I'm hoping he will turn pro. People of all ages recognize him, so when you're with him it's like you are with a huge star, but he's never been in a boxing ring for a real fight. It's like with Mike Tyson and Manny Pacquiao -- when they walk into a room, they own the room. When Kimbo walks into a room, Kimbo owns the room and it's all about Kimbo.
"When everyone recognizes you and you believe you are a huge star, and you get all of these offers, it's hard to go to a gym and work like you're a rookie. But he's coming back to California to train after the holidays. Hopefully, he means after the Thanksgiving holiday."
Oh and Gary, Kimbo said "after the holidays." It's probably safe to say that he's taking 2010 off to spend Christmas with his family.

Interesting to see some Kimbo Slice news. I’m surprised that Kimbo isn’t fighting some sort of MMA/freakshow fight or even professional wrestling match in Japan.

He really should do that instead.
..Get a big payday against Minomawan.

I sure would love to see Kimbo tap to a kneebar 17 seconds into the fight. Nothing too much against him, I’d just find it humorous.

Personally, I’d find it humerus if he tapped to an armbar.
And then God created Saturn... and he liked it, so he put a ring on it.
Twitter me and what not.

Not a fan of Kimbo but you're throwing him into the Lion's Den with that.
He’s the Super Hluk Champion for a reason.
Fixed.
It’s like with Mike Tyson and Manny Pacquiao — when they walk into a room, they own the room AND ACTUALLY KNOW HOW TO FIGHT When Kimbo walks into a room, Kimbo owns the room and it’s all about Kimbo AND THAT’S ABOUT IT.
Can’t believe this asshole had the balls to compare Pac-Man and Tyson to Kimbo, a guy who has never had success as a pro fighter.

Are you aware that "this asshole," said the exact same thing you just did?

I don't think what he said was that crazy
He’s not comparing their fighting skills. He’s comparing them on the basis of charisma. Tyson is many years removed from being a good fighter, but he still has an “it” factor that no current HW boxer possesses. Kimbo is a a charismatic guy. He looks like a fighter. If they could figure out how to make him fight like one, they’d really be onto something.

what about his old comments?
Gary Shaw, former EliteXC scumbag promoter, talked highly about Kimbo’s chances:
“He could easily be at the same level as guys the Klitschkos have been fighting. Maybe I’m wrong, maybe he’s coming to boxing too late, but I don’t think so. He’s not a beaten-up athlete. He’s a natural, with that bob and weave like Mike Tyson.”
“I’ve always said he could be a world champion. I believe in that more than ever. This is not the era of Tyson, Holyfield and Lennox Lewis.”

Well, those comments are clearly absurd.
Kimbo doesn’t even know how to turn his hips when he strikes. For a guy of his size and strength, he generates depressingly little power with his punches.
I think what he said about Kimbo being a media phenom is probably right on though.

Kimbo's got personality and a backstory that people will just eat up
Unfortunately he’s got arthritic knees and age going against him, so fighting as a career isn’t going to get much easier for him.
If he can bring himself to put his fighting days behind him, he’d be a great entertainer, perfect for TV or cinema.
Boxing debut...Gary Shaw...
ShoBox The New Generation…
Kimbo Slice vs Monte Barrett or Jason Estrada.
Or James Toney. Given he can pass a simple physical, that match in itself is stroke-worthy.
Thanks for putting Boxing back another 500,000 years.
Or maybe this is what Boxing needs. Oh wait, used that excuse during his stint on TUF.

Kimbo Slice's 15 Minutes Extended Until 2011
No hate for the man for getting paid while he can but does anyone legitimately believe he’ll have a successful career in boxing after seeing his METEORIC RISE in MMA?
"Now you see that evil will always triumph, because good is dumb."
Just sayin....
The only boxing match I’m interested in is the day PAC man whoops PBF’s ass…$$ will be made but nothing will be more valuable then seeing mayweather get his ass handed to him.
WAR fighting congressman!
Pac-Kimbo
I would like to see Pac-Man eat up Kimbo just like eating the scared little ghosts in the game. Too bad they couldn’t be sanctioned because of the little guy kicking the shit out of the big guy, not vice-versa.
come on Kimbo.....
I think even Bas Rutten’s Body Action System has faster handspeed than you…
Gary Shaw
I am go glad that creep Gary Shaw is out of MMA!
He’s 36 years old and his knees are already shot, if he has that much “charisma” he should just be a star the old fashioned way and go to Hollywood because he hasn’t ever shown he is that good of a professional fighter in any sport on any level. He seems like a decent guy but I don’t know if he has it in him to be a professional athlete at a very high level. He would be a better fit in pro wrestling than Boxing or MMA but his knees might not even let him do that. Find him in some acting classes and get him a cable sit-com or some made for tv movie roles. He does have Charisma and presence by the bucketful but those aren’t athletic skills they are being famous skills.
