UFC 122 Results: Duane "Bang" Ludwig Edges Nick Osipczak

Duane "Bang" Ludwig took a split decision win over Nick Osipczak in the opening fight of the UFC 122 main card. The fight was scheduled to be a preliminary fight but made the main card when Alessio Sakara had to drop out of his co-headliner with Jorge Rivera.

After a feeling out process in the first round, Osipczak hurt Ludwig with a flurry of strikes, cutting him over the right eye and dropping him to the ground. He followed Ludwig down to the ground and landed some ground and pound but Ludwig fought back to his feet and managed to survive the round.

In the second round, Ludwig pressed forward behind a series of leg kicks and jabs. Osipczak looked to clinch and force Ludwig against the fence, opening a second cut on Ludwig's face. With about 90 seconds left Osipczak shot for a single leg and took Ludwig down. Ludwig maintained guard but Osipczak landed a few shots until the ref stood them up with about 20 seconds left. Ludwig shot in but was unable to take the Brit down before time expired.

Ludwig again went for a take down to start the third but Osipczak fended him off. Ludwig hurt Osipczak with a body shot that slowed him down and Ludwig poured it on, firing with punches and kicks. Ludwig landed hard knees to the body and punches and kicks to the face as a rubber-legged Osipczak struggled to survive. Ludwig was unable to finish his prey and struggled for a take down as the fight ended.

Duane "Bang" Ludwig came in after sustaining a grotesque ankle break against Darren Elkins. His previous UFC outing was a submission loss to Jim Miller. This is Ludwig's first fight at welterweight in some time.

Nick Osipczak came in off back-to-back losses to Greg Soto and Rick Story, bringing him to 2-2 in the UFC.
