WEC 52 Results: Erik Koch Crushes Francisco Rivera

Photo by Scott Petersen via MMA Weekly

It didn't take long for Erik Koch to give Francisco Rivera a very rude welcome to the WEC with a brutal left high kick to the head. Referee Steve Mazzagatti stepped in to protect Rivera and stop the fight when Koch followed him down and poured on the hammer fists.

Koch brought a 2-1 WEC record and a good deal of hype into the fight. This performance will do nothing to slow his rise.

This was supposed to be a feature bout for Josh Grispi, but he pulled out of this fight to take a UFC 125 title fight against Jose Aldo. That didn't leave a lot of time for Sean Shelby to find a replacement, but the undefeated Francisco Rivera has stepped up on very short notice.
