WEC 52: Faber vs. Mizugaki - Live Results and Commentary

As with every major show, Bloody Elbow will be here to bring you live results and commentary for WEC 52: Faber v. Mizugaki. The live blog will start with the beginning of the Versus broadcast (9 p.m. ET) so make sure to make Bloody Elbow your home for this event.

The event is headlined by a bout between former featherweight champion Urijah Faber as he makes his bantamweight debut against former title challenger Takeya Mizugaki. Also on the card, undefeated Chad Mendes looks to keep his zero in the loss column when he steps in against veteran fighter Javier Vasquez.

As always we have our one rule: NO SPOILERS! In the interest of not ruining anything from the undercard that may make the broadcast we ask that you do not discuss the results of the undercard in the comments until either the broadcast ends or the fight makes the air.

The Versus broacast is live. First fight up shortly.

Damacio Page vs. Demetrious Johnson - Round 1 - Johnson trying to circle away quickly but Page pushes forward, lands a punch and then a nice knee.  Page tries for a takedown, Johnson survives and gets one of his own. Page manages to get up and he does not stop throwing his hands. Nice right by Johnson but Page gets a takedown. Johnson uses the threat of the kimura to get out of side control and regain half guard. Page works to full mount now with half the round left. Johnson gets half guard and stands up. Page doesn't let him go and uses a nice head throw to get back to the ground. Johnson on top now landing elbows and Page manages to stand back up. Great slam by Page and he's back on top. Page with a few punches from inside Johnson's guard. The round ends and it was a 10-9 Page round.

Round 2 - Nice kick by Johnson. Page with a right hand. Head kick by Johnson. This is some high output here. Page looking for the takedown, Johnson throws a few elbows and Page complains out loud that he was hit to the back of the head. Johnson manages to get back to his feet. Low blow by Johnson and the action is stopped. After about five minutes to recover, they're restarted. Low kick by Johnson. Overhand right misses for Johnson. Johnson really working the leg kicks now. Page throws a knee and Johnson shoots and gets the takedown. Nice short elbows and punches from the top now. Page tries to stand up as Jonson passes and Johnson takes him right back down. Johnson tried to mount and almost got swept but Johnson is right back on top. Johnson using some nice punches from the top now. Huge elbow from the top now. Page tries to stand up again and almost ends up mounted. 10-9 Round for Johnson.

Round 3 - Page is badly hurt by a shot from Johnson and now Johnson is pouring it on and lands a head kick that drops Page. Johnson on top now in Page's half guard. Page is getting hit by a lot of elbows now. Page is really missing his explosiveness in the later part of this fight. Johnson locks up a very tight guillotine from the top, moves to mount with it and Page is forced to tap out.

Joseph Benavidez vs. Wagnney Fabiano - Round 1 - Both men circling a lot to start the first round. Benavidez trying to push the pace now and he's really putting some power behind his strikes. Right hand by Benavidez, Fabiano tries to answer with a head kick that is blocked. Right, left combo by Benavidez doesn't really land but he's doing the work to carry the round so far. Head kick by Benavidez now. Nice body kick by Fabiano now. Fabiano misses a head kick and slips to the ground but Benavidez doesn't follow him there. Benavidez really has Fabiano uncomfortable with the pressure. Nice body kick by Fabiano is his best strike of the round. Hard uppercut in the middle of a combination by Joseph. Fabiano with the body kick again and now Benavidez clinches, backs off and throws a high kick that is blocked. Nice straight left lands now for Benavidez. The round ends with a jumping kick by Fabiano that lands and then a return flurry of punches by Benavidez. 10-9 Benavidez.

Round 2  - Heck kick by Benavidez is blocked. Fabiano slips and Benavidez tries to engage him, Fabiano grabs a leg and gets his neck caught. Benavidez uses the guillotine to sweep. Benavidez again looks for a guillotine and it is deep but Fabiano just relaxes and survives. Fabiano is on top now and in side control. Benavidez locks up the guillotine again and this time Fabiano has no choice but to tap out.

Erik Koch vs. Francisco Rivera - Round 1 - Koch misses a few head kicks at the start and he's trying to pump the jab now. Rivera misses a right hand. They trade low kicks. Kock with a huge head kick and Rivera goes down. Koch with a flurry of punches and it's over. Yikes!

Chad Mendes vs. Javier Vazquez - Round 1 - Mendes throws some punches early, Vazquez tries for a takedown and ends up on his back where he eats a punch. They're standing and Mendes with a very quick takedown. Vazquez with rubber guard and Mendes stands up and slams him down to break the rubber guard. Mendes working some punches now. Vazquez tries to work his legs up high but Mendes shrugs them down and works more ground and pound until the round ends. 10-9 Mendes.

Round 2 - Mendes with a hard leg kick and a jumping knee followed by punches and Vazquez is forced to pull guard. Vazquez with rubber guard and Mendes pushes through and starts landing punches again.Vazquez controlling with rubber guard and Mendes stands up. They exchange kicks to the leg with Vazquez on his back and now Mendes tries to flip over him and they scramble on the ground only to have Mendes roll and end up on top. They're stood up after a lack of action with twenty seconds left. 10-9 Mendes.

Round 3 - Vazquez with the leg kick and Mendes takes him down again. Head kick by Mendes hurts Vazquez, he throws a few punches and then takes him down. They're stood back up and Mendes hurts him with a couple punches and Vazquez looks to have suffered an eye injury. Back to the ground with Mendes on top.The round ends and it should be a clean sweep for Mendes.

Official Scorecards: 30-27 across the board. Chad Mendes wins by unanimous decision.

Urijah Faber vs. Takeya Mizugaki - Round 1 - Faber throws the right hand early. Mizugaki throws his hands and Faber moves his head and lands the right hand again. Nice lead elbow by Faber. Mizugaki pushes Faber into the fence now and lands a shoulder. Faber finding space to land some elbows. Mizugaki with a nice punch and Faber answers. Mizugaki is trying to work combinations but he isn't landing and Faber is landing single shots. Nice right hand by Mizugaki. Faber looking for the shot and Mizugaki does a nice job of pulling him up. Faber teases the guillotine and then jumps onto Mizugaki's back. Faber with the body triangle and he locks in the choke. It's clear that Mizugaki went out to the choke but it took the ref forever to stop it and now Mizugaki is straightened out and completely unconscious.
