PrintA Veterans Day announcement via Spike TV press release:
New York, NY, Veterans Day -- November 11, 2010 -- Fighting with a truly meaningful purpose in front of some real American heroes, "The Ultimate Fighter" alums Kenny Florian, Mike Swick, Matt Mitrione, Melvin Guillard, and U.S. Army and National Guard veteran DaMarques Johnson will be featured on Spike TV's telecast of "UFC Fight For The Troops" live from Fort Hood, Texas on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 9:00pm ET/6:00pm PT. The main event showcases two of the best lightweights in the world, Florian and Evan Dunham.
This special live UFC fight card will raise funds for the brave men and women in the United States Armed Forces with traumatic brain injuries. Information about ways to donate can be found online at www.fightforthetroops.com, along with UFC.com and Spike.com
Bloody Elbow has additionally learned that the live broadcast on Spike will be three hours long. The card, with official and rumored bouts, is below:

Fucking Damarques – Joker fight on the main card? Are you kidding me? What in the fuck.. if the rumored Barry – Beltran and Hominick – Roop fights gets undercard treatment just because Damarques was in the national guard, that’s incredibly stupid. Noone wants to see that fight, come on now.. but since those other fights aren’t confirmed yet, maybe something will happen. I hope so anyway.

That is the reason Johnson is on the main card. Not because of his service in the National Guard.

What the fuck is the point of bringing in the WEC guys if they’re just going to be put on the undercard. Even thiugh I really wanna see it, Barry-Mexicutioner on the undercard, I understand but Hominick-Roop? That’s BS. The joker fight and Roop fight should switch places.

TUF officially has too much pull
No way in hell should Swick and DeMarques be on the main card.
Promote Hominick/Roop and Barry/Beltran to the main card. Oh, and I’m very glad this is live to the West Coast.

TUF has too much pull?
Without TUF, there would be no fights on SpikeTV. Zuffa has to do their part to keep their broadcast partners happy, and if airing a few mediocre fights for free is the price they have to pay, so be it. It’s Spike’s network. They have a right to pick & choose the fights they are the most appealing to their audience (90% of which is TUF fans).
What I'm saying is
Good fights like Barry/Beltran are basically being spurned for TV because of the TUF fighters. Florian I understand. Guillard I understand. DeMarques Johnson was a part of probably the worst season of TUF to date. I am not a fan of just putting any TUF guy on a main card of a Spike show because he was on a reality show.
TUF really changed the landscape of MMA and the UFC, but guys getting TV time based on reputation and not actual ability (W-L record) is a bit unfair.
This is why I’m glad Versus has more events now because their appeal is obviously different from Spike’s.

Also, Pat Barry and Joey Beltran got FOTN honors on two separate high-rated Spike prelim shows
DeMarques just lost his last fight (and he missed weight), basically had to have (admittedly awesome) last ditch comebacks against guys who aren’t even in the UFC anymore in Garcia and Blackburn, and Guymon has dropped 2 of 3 with his lone win against Yoshida.
Dammit if they wanted an army guy just move Leben/Stann to that show instead.

I would have George Roop vs Mark Hominick over that fight for sure. Hominick is on a four fight win streak and has been mentioned as a title contender and Roop is coming off an impressive head kick knock out. I see a few of the fights are not yet officially announced so I am hoping that Hominick-Roop is on the main card.
