MMA Junkie reports that a long-awaited addition to the UFC light heavyweight roster is now official, as Brazilian submission master Alexandre "Cacareco" Ferreira (18-6) has signed with the organization and will face Vladimir Matyushenko next month in Germany at UFC 122, as a replacement for the injured Jason Brilz.

17 out of 18 wins by submission
They are really aggressively signing top BJJ prospects, love it. Think they’re looking for someone to take out the wrestlers – like how Escuadero couldn’t use his wrestling against Oliveira
he's Luta Livre not BJJ
literally this guy has been around for a decade waiting for his big chance. He, along with Babalu Sobral and Alexandre Pequeno Nogueira, were the last prospects to come out of the Luta Livre camps. Of course then they ended the feud with BJJ and now they’re all “BJJ” guys.

Nate
have you heard anything about the UFC signing Riki Fukuda?
"How do you shoot the devil in the back? What if you miss?"
Luta Livre is to BJJ what Karate is to Kung Fu, I guess is the best way I can describe it – only both are purely Brazilian art forms. Luta Livre has more a grappling/wrestling improvisational style where BJJ is more focused on setting up submissions. As Gracie BJJ gained popularity, Luta Livre asserted it’s superiority as did Gracie, and several matches were staged to determine which style was best. I believe Gracie BJJ has a few up on Luta Livre.
well neither of them is remotely purely Brazilian
jiu jitsu is a modified version of the jujitsu or kodokan judo that Maeda taught the Gracies. Luta Livre is a gi-less grappling system heavily influenced by catch wrestling and judo.
this post from my MMA History series will tell you all about Luta Livre.

Hmm
I have always wanted to see more catch wrestlers in the cage. I guess this will help :)

well
if you’ve ever seen Ken Shamrock, Frank Shamrock, Kazushi Sakuraba, or Josh Barnett you’ve seen catch wrestling in the cage.

Finally.
And that makes it 3 Chute Box Fighters signed within 2 months.

Is he really 5'7''?
That makes him smaller than Toquinho. And Cacareco is a 205er!

![After he was mysteriously removed from a bout with fellow Brazilian Rousimar Palhares at UFC 134, Alexandre "Cacareco" Ferreira has now been released by the UFC according to his manager, who spoke to Sherdog:
"Unfortunately, Cacareco was released by the UFC when he refused to sign the contract to fight against Toquinho," explained Borges. "He was called to fight at ‘UFC Rio’ in March, and when he found out that the opponent was Palhares, he started to claim difficulties with making weight. Ferreira then said it was better for him not to sign the contract, and he didn’t decide what to do until, eventually, the UFC got tired of waiting and released him via letter."
"When I knew he was looking for a team, I called Rudimar [Fedrigo, leader of Chute Boxe] and told him to hire Cacareco," said Borges. "However, [Cacareco] showed no interest in training, even when he signed with the UFC after almost a year of trying to convince [UFC matchmaker] Joe Silva to give him a shot. He knew I was close to making the deal for him, and he still went on a TV show to blame his unluckiness."](http://cdn3.sbnation.com/fan_shot_images/204461/1259860734.g_small.jpg)
![Always honest, Forrest Griffin tells Sherdog he's anticipating a difficult weight cut and conditioning issues for his upcoming fight in Rio against Mauricio "Shogun" Rua:
"I definitely put on more weight than I would like," Griffin told Sherdog.com. "I need to cut weight and it won’t be easy. I’ll have a lot of problems until the fight in Brazil, but I’ve gotta do it. I don’t want to fight at heavyweight, so I gotta cut that f--king weight."
"He’s one of the best fighters ever," Griffin said of his opponent, who he submitted in September 2007. "He has a blitz style. He goes forward. He’s dangerous. I gotta make him move backward and let’s see what happens. I want to go hard for all 15 minutes of the fight."
"It’s difficult to adjust yourself [to another country]," said Griffin. "There’s the jetlag thing, and it’s difficult to make weight since Brazil doesn’t have the distilled water I use in the U.S. and the food I need to eat. It’s always difficult to change your routine when you go to another country. I feel stupid because I can’t communicate with people from the hotels and can’t even say how I want my eggs. It’s clearly a pain in the ass."
