I might just cry, as it is pretty much the end of Lawlor in the UFC. He is the exact kind of personality that makes me want to watch the Ultimate Fighter, and they haven’t exactly pumped guys like that out lately.

The problem is
Between his age and the utter lack of depth at HW in the UFC, he has to have a real sense of urgency if he’s going to get another shot.
We’ve all seen that just doing your job (i.e. winning) sometimes isn’t enough (see: Fitch, Jon), not to mention there is no obvious opponent in the ultra-shallow UFC HW class.

It could be frustration, irritation or a previously semi-repressed douchiness, but the clock is ticking on his career and he has no obvious or even reasonably obvious fight to make right now.

The funny thing is
For all his whinning and occassionally douchey behavior at times, Carwin is exactly right.
If he adjusts his training to better simulate fighting & adjusts his diet, supplement and training in general, he takes Brock.
Too bad he’s not 30-32 though…

So, if Carwin evolves and becomes a better fighter and Brock stays the same fighter he was that night, Carwin will beat Brock?

Carwin’s gas tank is the glaring hole in his game – if he fixes that, his game, rudimentary as it may be, is enough to win next time.
Possibly excepting Overeem, I don’t see any other current top HW will the overall game to beat Lesnar right now.

Brock and Carwin are two guys who have obvious technical holes in their game but are so devasting and strong that it makes up for that. That’s why I don’t think anyone in the HW division can beat either man. If Carwin straightens out his conditioning, he’s going to be that much harder to deal with. Overreem is not as naturally big or strong as either man and I think he gets outmuscled in the same way everyone else does. It also doesn’t help those in the HW division that Carwin and Brock are still improving their game and skillset

That may be true, but even if Overeem only has 90% of their strength, his technique is so far beyond theirs on the feet or in the clinch imo.

I agree Carwin or Lesnar taking AO down would be the path to take, but I think you are discounting AO’s skills a bit.
maybe, but a bunch of wins in kickboxing and one recent win over Brett Roger’s in MMA doesn’t prove anything to me about how successful he’d be against the UFC heavyweights. I think he’d wilt under any pressure put on him by Cain, Brock, Carwin, and even JDS.

Carwin wasn’t the better conditioned athlete in that fight and that’s all it took for him to lose the fight (that and not excercising any patience with his GNP)

Obviously his conditioning killed him, but you make a good point about his patience. When you’re 265+ and you go into total spaz mode for a couple minutes, it only makes things worse.
