Take a look at him. I mean, I’m bias here because I don’t like the guy but seriously being that big w/ that sort of muscle definition is close to impossible without some chemical help.

His current physique is very big but not well defined or ripped. It’s actually a bit soft witha lot of bodyfat. Now his pre-UFC physique is another matter and it’s not surprising he was allegedly takind roids then when you look at him. He’s become significantly softer looking when he’s above 265. The fights he was lean was when he weighed in lower than 260. I mean based on what you just said, Brock must be on roids to considering how big and lean he was for 117 right?

I have my suspicions of Carwin

and I certainly don’t appreciate his “holier than thou” attitude, but if a person could just look at someone and convict them of guilt, then there would be no need for a court system. Was he using steroids at one time in his career? Maybe. Strong possibility. But has he been caught red handed? No. A name on a list is not red handed.

by pud333 on Oct 5, 2010 12:45 PM EDT up reply actions

I’m a huge Carwin fan, but I certainly lost some respect for him after the steroid list, which considering his silence is pretty telling to the validity. But at the same time to act like because an athlete once used they must currently be using depsite not getting popped for it is a bit unfair, especially when you are basing the argument on their physique, particularlly when you look at Carwin’s last opponent. The current system has it’s flaws but it’s all we have to go by. We might as well be casting out stones at every fighter in that case.

I mean where’s all the hate for Marquardt, Leben, Sherk, Vitor, etc. etc? They all got caught juicing so I guess they must still be using right, despite not getting popped again? Double standards

For sure.

I’m not naive, I have my own suspicions and thoughts on PEDs in MMA, but it’s a bad route to go down if you start calling people out based off their physical appearance. Lies have a habit of sticking around longer than the truth, and the last thing we need is to encourage random dudes on the computer making accusations based off what they think they know about PEDs. Heck, I don’t even care if they have personal experience with illegally prescribed drugs. Last I checked, it was innocent until proven guilty.

Oh, it’s definitely bad, but I will wait until he’s proven guilty first.

That is certainly substantial evidence that he bought them, and I will concede that is highly likely that if he bought ‘em, he used ’em, but plenty of fighters have been busted using and BE doesn’t allow people a free pass to attack them.

I get that BE has had a running feud with Carwin, but I really do wish you would crack down on the rampant fighter bashing of the guy in the comments. I know there is no love lost between Carwin & BE, but it reflects poorly on your site when you give the inmates free reign to attack the guy in the comments.

Let me ask this. If a guy takes roids and builds his muscles so he can bench say 100 lbs more than when he began and cycles off roids but keeps working out hard and retains the same strength didn’t the roids help him be not only who he was then but who he is today?

If one has done a cycle where their single max bench went up 100#, then it could only be during their first cycle. Having said that, the gains are not completely maintained, but a fairly high percentage can be maintained.

The problem lies in the training. The whole notion of “recovery” has to do with your muscles recovering from being torn down while lifting. Steroids enhance this process, allowing you to do more work in a shorter period of time without overtraining.

Mir rematch is too soon, GG and Kongo won’t have enough time between fights, Nelson’s knee could be messed up still. I don’t know about Nog’s injury situation, but if he’s ready it’s probably going to be him. Otherwise, Struve and Mitrione are the next guys…

I have been back in the gym for some time helping my team where ever I can. I am expecting to fight again around the New Year. I have a lot to prove and I hope the UFC finds me a worthy opponent. I want to be tested, I want a complete war.

I need to show the world of MMA that I have a place on top of the mountain.

We are working hard to show that I can be a worthy challenger to the throne. In the mean time I need to pay my dues, fight the fights given to me and show that I belong.

makes sense given where they both are and the heat between the two.

It would be the match to make provided Nelson is healthy enough.

Nelson’s chin looked good against Dos Santos. Carwin probably has more power though.

I’m not as convinced in JDS power as most are. He lit up Cro-Cop and couldn’t put him out and couldn’t put out Nelson either. I don’t think Carwin will have that problem if he lands cleanly on Nelson.

Sucks because I like Big Roy, but I see no way he can win this

If he can survive the first round, he’s got a shot. I won’t believe Carwins patched up his gas tank until I see it in action. Of course, surviving the first round is still the issue.

True, although it depends on if Carwin goes nuts throwing punches like he did with Lesnar.

But him working with Chamberg is a good sign that he taking the right steps to imrove his conditioning.

The guy didn’t just gas. He seized up. I’m wondering if he has the system to support all that muscle. Can he develop it in less than a year? Will gaining better conditioning necessarily mean losing power?

Helwani is reliable, so this probably happens

Do you have a link to the interview/blog/whatever?

and, in response to when he plans on fighting again:

why not Russow? 13-1-0, 2-0 in the UFC. maybe he can make it 2 buff dudes in a row.

Sources close to the fight, have confirmed that the organization is looking to match up contenders Shane Carwin and Roy Nelson at UFC 125 on New Year’s Day.

Works for me. In my mind it was either gonna be Roy, the loser of Lesnar/Cain depending on how long Carwin was going to sit between fights. Those give him a much faster route back to a title shot than a rematch with Mir IMO.

In a fight with Shane Carwin vs. Roy Nelson I have...

Carwin winning by manhandling Nelson and breaking him within the first 2 or 3 minutes.

Saying he is gonna give someone his gloves if he does something that is nearly impossible is just stupid.

This is a bad fight for Nelson, cause I see Nelson standing and trading the whole fight like he did with JDS.

especially coming off an injury

There’s a great chance that Roy will not be 100% by January and a less than 100% Roy = a Knocked unconscious Roy

Dammit Duffee.

If you weren’t such a diva, I was pulling for you to fight Carwin after 116..Even after Russow embarrassed you.
