UFC 120 Preview: Dan Hardy Says Carlos Condit's Tenacity Will Be His Downfall
"Skinny guy, tall, pale, screws his face up before a fight... He’s quite rangey, he’s not a bad kickboxer, he’s quite persistent, he likes to grind away, he likes to fight off his back on the ground, he has quite a few submissions, he’s quite busy…that’s about it really…"
"His best quality is his persistence. He’s quite tenacious…’Quite’ meaning he’s not as tenacious as me, and that’s where he’s going to fall short, because his tenacity is going to get him in a lot of trouble. He’s going to try and push the pace of the fight, and every time he steps forward, he’s going to run into something heavy or sharp, and I think that’s going to be a telling factor in the fight."
"I’m going to be standing in the BudLite logo in the centre of the Octgon and every time he comes near it he’s going to get punched in the face... Clinical, and nasty. I’m going to bully him. Push him around, throw him about…I might even choke him out... After I’ve beaten him up a bit."
"Condit made a stupid mistake calling me out. I am coming off my first loss as a UFC fighter, and was already looking forward to putting a real beating on someone. But this guy actually volunteered for a savage beating by calling me out. This is the first step on the road back to title contention. I have a formula to be the UFC welterweight champion, and losing to Condit isn’t part of that equation. I will smash him up, and walk through him."
--Dan Hardy, the former #1 contender to the welterweight crown, talked to Telegraph.co.uk about his bout against Carlos Condit.

This is gonna be one sick fight! Seeing that Im a huge Condit fan I hope he kicks Hardys ass!!!
Mike Goldberg: "You know Joe, When Matt and his brother Mark Hughes were growing up, they would pound each other behind the barn."
Me too. The biggest hole Condit has, IMO, is also what makes him such a fun fighter to watch and what make him dangerous: his willingness to risk putting himself in bad positions in order to get the win. Dude is a warrior, and I figure Hardy will probably be more disciplined and really take it to Condit, but hopefully Condit pulls out the W in the end.
i entirely agree with hardy
i think he destroys condit
We have a saying back home that if your coming on, COME ON!!!!
I like both guys
And I’m really looking forward to this fight. I love how busy Condit is from anywhere in the cage. I think Hardy’s stand up advantage and submission defense will give him an edge, but expect a close, hard, action fight.
Tatum: I think he's a good man. I like him. I got nothing against him, but I'm definitely gonna make orphans of his children.
Yup, that sums it up.
We’ve seen Condit rocked a couple of times. I’m just wondering if Hardy is the fighter that will be able to put him away. I doubt, Condit is as tough as they get.

I wouldn't be surprised if he is exactly right.
I will be cheering for Condit, but I think Hardy wins.
Condit's only chance.
Is that a dumb (cage dumb), hardy gets overly aggressive.
he pulls butterfly guard. and gets a gnarly choke.
otherwise i’ll call this 3-1 for DAN HARDY
Jackie Treehorn treats his objects like women, man.
I love GSP
but Condit has to have better subs, right?

GSP let that kimura go honestly.

I don't think Condit will be conflicted about breaking Hardy's arm if it comes up
He’s a mean dude. Still I think Hardy will be too much for him physically.

what makes you say that?
a razor close decision win over an old Marcus Davis?
A boring decision win over an old Akahiro Gono?
A boring decision over a medically hampered Swick?
A TKO win over Rory Markham? (who Nate diaz also TKO’ed)
Hardy is waaaaay over rated.

I like Condit,
but he hasn’t exactly set the world on fire since his promotion to the big leagues either. The MacDonald win was nice, but doesn’t blow me away. Hardy has done better against better competition, he’s bigger than Condit, and he probably doesn’t have to fear the takedown too much. Condit has an edge in submissions, but Hardy has pretty decent sub defense and considerably better striking.

What makes you think Condit is so good?
A questionable TKO over a natural LW in MacDonald, which he would have lost given seven more seconds?
A close decision over a debuting Ellenberger where he was almost KO’d early?
A losing effort to Martin Kampmann?
A tough four round win over the unheralded Hiromitsu Miura?
See how easy this game is to play?

Condit would not have lost against Rory
But this is assuming the judges knew that the 3rd round was a 10-8.
Bandwagon leader for Michael Robinson as Seattle Seahawks starting QB.
Even then it would be a draw.
And both you and I know that judges refuse to deviate from the current ‘every round is a 10-9’ policy, so your assumption is not even close to being a given.
But I don’t agree with all of those statements, just using them as an example of why dissecting guys’ records after the fact is completely stupid and useless. It should be obvious to fans that both Hardy and Condit are good fighters and going through their respective records and spinning all of the results in a negative light based on fanboyism is pointless.

Hmmm.......can I play this game? I like doing this.
Junior Dos Santos
Knocked out a fatass and out of shape Fabricio Werdum.
Knocked out a very easy to KO Stefan Struve.
Defeated a shot Mirko Cro-Cop.
Knocked out a gatekeeper in Gabriel Gonzaga.
Could not KO a fat guy.
HAHA! I WIN!

I’m just trying to figure out why Hardy is so hyped.
He hasen’t blown my doors down at all.
IMO he lost to M. Davis, and his KO POWER hasn’t shown up yet.

Nothing personal here man, but i think youre wayyyy overreaching here
Your point is fundementally sound: that hardy is overrated. But the lengths you go to discredit each and every one of his wins – and “old” Marcus Davis, a “medicated” swick, Rory Markham who was also TKO’ed by no less a scrub then TUF winner and Ceasar Gracie brown belt Nate Diaz – it just reeks of the kind of revisionist, fanboy MMA history that drives me nuts.
Truth is every one of Hardys fights have been viewed, at the time, as being close, tough fights for him and with one exception, he won them all. Cut the dude some slack.

This will be fun
but for real, for his next match, win or lose, give Hardy a guy who will test his ability to stand up and fight again. I’m for remaking the DHK matchup that got cancelled last year.

If you want to hear my opinion on Les Miles go to BJPenn.com.
What?
really? Why do that when he could take condit’s head off in the second?

Perhaps he's thinking of the swick fight,
where despite rocking Swick numerous times, Hardy repeatedly followed those attacks by pushing Swick against the cage and working takedowns.

Should be a barnburner. The fight I’m looking forward to most on that card.
Not that I condone facism or any ism for that matter. Isms are in my opinion, not good. A person shouldn't believe in an ism, he should believe in himself.
I quote John Lennon, "I don't believe in Beatles, I just believe in me". Good point there, after all he was the walrus. I could be the walrus. Wouldn't change the fact I have to bum rides off of people.
The one I’m looking forward to most out of all of the upcoming shows

Hardy sure knows how to hype a fight.
Not a bad interview.
In other news, is that a tattoo on Hardy’s lip? That shit is nasty!
The Inner Lip Tattoo .....
this! for this reason I hope Condit maims him. oh, and i also think he can out work Hardy.

Don't underestimate Condit...
I think Hardy may be looking at Condit’s frame and think he will just overpower him. I think if Condit can survive Ellenberger he can deal with Hardy’s power and will eventually catch a submission.
You would think he would have studied tapes, worked a gameplan, nah, he looked at his profile picture:
“You’re going down skinny boy!”

When Hardy talked about Condit's looks
I was kinda wondering at first who he was talking about: Himself or Condit. Anyway I have Hardy winning this one, Condit fights the fight wherever it takes place, and he’ll probably lose in the standup. I’m not convinced that Hardy is the worldclass striker that some people claim him to be tho. The guy’s a solid striker, but in no way the best welterweight striker out there.
I'd say Paul Daley
if “out there” means in the world, not the ufc. Of course, he’s got his own problems.

Cannot wait.
I’m trying to think of ways that the fight could be anti-climactic, and can think of none. I think Condit will have the edge based on his ability to stay aggressive throughout a fight. He may get hit flush as he often does, but he does not seem to get rung, often relying on the momentary overconfidence of his opponent to suddenly punish them with something sharp that really, really hurts. I think Hardy will attempt to be tactical and patient in this fight, but that won’t last once something connects from either guy. I just see Condit taking his shots, but hanging in there and getting something done late, kind of the way Leben did against Akiyama. I wish this fight was a five-rounder.
Sdpeaking of Leben
If he ever made the cut to 170 (I think he could. But MW’s his season did), wouldn’t a Condit fight be terrific?

Another interesting interview with Hardy...
…from a guy on my mag below. Yes this is a plug, but the most interesting bit is that he thinks Koscheck has a better shot against GSP than most people think:
‘I think he’s got a very good chance. In their first fight he neglected his wrestling, assuming that GSP wouldn’t be able to compete with it. But going into this fight I think his wrestling will be sharp, and he’ll be able to keep the fight standing. On the feet it’s anyone’s game. I think GSP has been a little bit gun-shy since the Matt Serra fight, and although Koscheck’s not the most polished of fighters, he’s quite aggressive and he does land clean shots. If it stays standing I do lean towards Koscheck a little bit, as much as I hate to admit it.’
ugh
Dan is an idiot. I liked him before reading that. I know I’m a bit of a GSP nuthugger (by a bit I mean I worship the guy). But I think itKs hard to deny how good of a striker GSP is. He stood the whole 3rd round of the Kos fight and picked Kos apart. And this is when Kos was focusing his striking the most. It won’t matter if Kos’s wrestling is good enough or not. GSP will jab, superman punch, and leg kick Kos and his overhand right all day if he chose too. The guy got the better of Penn and Alves striking, and if he chose to stand with Hardy he woulda beat him too.
And didn’t Gono actually beat Hardy in some peoples eyes? I never saw it but I remember hearing it wasn’t exactly a one sided beatdown
I got Condit all day on this. Superior and more versatile skillset, more killer instinct, and just a tough SOB.

It was a close fight
But I have Hardy all the props in the world for pulling it out back then and I still do. Hardy was essentially a rookie -at best an up and coming prospect – fighting one of the most proven vets in WW at the time. Still think its his biggest UFC win considering how close the Swick and Davis fights were.

this whole thing about Hardy having all kids of power ..
is just…
not true.
Condit by RNC late in 2nd.
Dude, Hardy can throw a punch with his eyes closed from any angle and still hit Carlos in the face.
Seriously though, Carlos wont win a round. Dan has been workin a shit load on his wrestling. Anytime on the ground will be Carlos on his ass after Hardy lands a nasty hook.
Your beliefs become your reality.

I really want to see...
Condit kick Dan Hardy’s ass
I also want to see Akiyama kick Bisping’s ass
I want whoever is fighting Mcsweeney to kick his ass
But John Hathaway however, the one british guy who doesn’t seem to talk mad disrespectful sh!t, and who is probably good enough to where he’d have the right to talk trash, doesn’t talk trash…I want him to destroy Mike Pyle because Pyle was spewing a lot of ignorant sh!t about him, ’I’m gonna beat the expletive out of him’ and etc…not stuff I really liked to hear.
So yeah, Hathaway I think is the one Brit I’m rooting for on this card…I also want Scott Smith to pull out a miracle victory over Daley.
CPG
I see Condit taking this. Hardy will likely win the stand-up, maybe even phase Carlos with some strikes, but Condit’s experience is going to come through — it always does. Dan’s stand-up isn’t that great, just powerful… he’s like a welterweight Shane Carwin.
Condit is going to take Hardy to the ground after a few minutes of getting beat up, and easily work his way into a RNC.
