Such a close fight, too - it's easy for her (and many others) to think it wasn't a fair decision.

I will never, ever understand her gameplan in this fight.
by GetYourHeadStomps on Oct 30, 2010 3:08 PM EDT reply actions
Well.
In the pre-fight interview she said she wasn’t worried about Frausto’s striking but she was scared of her size and physical strength. Based on those words, her gameplan was pretty easy to understand. The problem was it didn’t work. Zoila did have a pretty badly busted up face when it was all said and done though.
Done.

if it goes to the judges you have to be prepared to have it go either way. Sure it sucks but it shouldnt be a suprise by now.

I'm torn because I really like Megumi, but
She had a ridiculous game plan. And even said so after the fight that she wanted to be Frausto at her own game.

Yea
I want to feel bad for her, but she chose to ignore her own strengths.

Don’t understand why people are complaining about her gameplan. Sure she could have taken Zoila down and most likely submitted her whenever. But the fact is she outstruck Frausto for the entire fight and picked her apart badly. You guys saying she got what she deserved (which i’m completely unsure of what that actually is) is pretty awful. The best record in MMA history tainted because of some pathetic judges.
MMA > The UFC
best record in mma history? ehhhhhhhhhhh.
you don’t fight on american soil with american judges and fight to your opponents strengths. the fight was a toss up, she played it dumb.

you are in an alternate reality
the best way you could look at this realistically is that fujii BARELY squeeked by frausto, and certainly didn’t look impressive or like some pound for pound great. not at all.
the more realistic way to look at it is that the fight was basically a draw.
and no offense to fujii, but someone who spends their career pitching for the toledo mudhens doesn’t usually deserve to in the discussion for greatest of all time, no matter how many no-hitters they had.
The people living in alternate reality were the ones who gave Frausto more than 2 rounds. Find me a more suitable candidate for Female GOAT.
MMA > The UFC
ah if you are talking female only, it’s a much different story.
you could make the fujii argument, sure. however in my opinion it’s Cristiane Santos. she is like no other female fighter ever before.
she doesn’t have the skills that fujii does, but it’s just a level of power, violence and aggressiveness that it doesn’t seem like any other female out there can remotely touch.
Cyborg only has 10 wins
and fights in the weakest division of female MMA. Are you fucking kidding me?

an alternate reality would be saying Fujii won by kneebar in the 2nd round. Thinking Fujii outstruck Frausto and deserved to win the fight is just paying attention.

Luke Thomas doing BE play by play scored it 48-47 for Frausto.
Greg Savage doing Sherdog play by play scored it 48-47 for Frausto.
Tomasz Marciniak doing Sherdog play by play scored it a 48-48 draw.
And Jordan Breen doing Sherdog play by play scored it 48-47 Fujii.
If you think this was some kind of Fujii domination, you are deluding yourself. Take off the Megumi colored glasses bro. This fight was basically a draw, and nothing was impressive about it for Fujii.
well GregS123 from tapology.com disagrees with me so I must be wrong.
I didn’t say it was a domination, bro. I didn’t cry robbery. I said Fujii outstruck her and deserved to win the fight.
And Fujii was impressive in that she was able to beat a bigger, stronger striker at her own game. Her improvement in standup was impressive. She also impressed me with her resilience. Those moments before she took her opponents down were always of concern to me, but she’s shown she can hang if she has to. It was a stupid strategy, but you have to be trying hard to be negative if you found nothing impressive about her performance.

I will complain about her gameplan because she had the advantage on the ground… do we need to go into detail? And who else is complained the gameplan? Fuji herself when she said she should have done differently instead of fighting Fausto’s fight. Sometimes you win with a bad gameplan too, Gurgel got some wins right?

Fights aren't judged by looking at the fighters' faces afterward
They’re judged a round at a time, using the 10-point must system and the judging criteria that have been set forth by the commission. The rounds in this fight were close enough that a 48-47 score either way was completely reasonable.

heh you have a pic
of what Megumi’s face looks like after the fight? i didn’t see it but from what i hear megumi tagged her more. and controlled the pace for most of the fight. what did the other girl do? maybe megumi didn’t want to take her down because she didn’t want to risk the other women getting on top fo her. especially because she was bigger and outweighed her come fight night. i don’t like when people get cheated if it’s to close you call it a draw and the people fight again.

I don't feel bad
She didn’t use her bread and butter to beat Frausto so she got what she deserved. Why in god’s name would you actually go with your opponents game plan when you know you can take her down, submit her, all in a matter of a couple minutes.
What's with people saying they don't feel bad because she had a bad game plan?
That’s neither here nor there. She lost and she was emotional about it. Give the girl a break. I think it speaks volumes about her character that she’s so passionate about her craft.

I have just got done studying the fight for a third a time and I can only give it Fujii. If we follow the Unified Rules as they are intended to be utilized then Fujii takes every round but round 3 which was easily Frausto’s, I am sure Frausto squeeked out 1 on most scorecards but for the vast majority of the round Fujii was the superior striker who controlled where the action took place. In round 2 Fujii outstruck her 2 to 1. Round 4, again Fujii was the more effective striker and also inflicted more punishment with the knees. Round 5 was the same but this time Fujii also scored a takedown.
Were the rounds blowouts? No. But since almost all the action was standing and Fujii was the more effective striker who was dictating where the fight was taking place than she should have won. I think those that scored it for Frausto did so because;
A) Fujii didn’t take her down.
B) Frausto was throwing stronger looking looping punches (nevermind they mostly missed there mark)
C) Fujii threw straights which didn’t look as punishing even though she out-struck her opponent2 to 1
D) The few times Frausto connected Fujii made a bigger reaction and seemed confused. Even though Zoila didn’t really capitlize when she caught her, she was awarded more than was deserved because of Megumi’s reaction.
Was it a robbery? No. Was it a bad decision? On further review I think that is obvious.

so basically
like i commented earlier if you not going give it to fujii. call it a draw and let them fight again.
I feel sorry for her next opponent
because Fujii is going to destroy them.
Just another lesson learned. (and her first loss)

AND THE WINNNER IS FRAUSTO
(the judge doesn’t know who’s hand to raise.) frausto comes into the ring and said megumi is a tough fighter the best i have ever fough. it was a tough match it was like it was two of her against me but i won.
I want to see Frausto vs. Leonard Garcia, just to see what the scorecards would look like.
