Wanderlei Silva: Chael Sonnen's One Year Suspension Is Too Long
"(Chael Sonnen) is one year out. But that's tough; a year is too much time. I agree with what Dana said, they took his job for a year, that's terrible. This guy has a family and this guy needs to work. I think 6 month's is ok; a year is too much time. (Steroids) is wrong but you can't take a job from a guy for a year. That's not so good. That's bad."

Wow, a little awkward there in the beginning.
Nice to see Wand answer some interesting questions though.
My favorite part
is how he is ready to go at 5AM, no wake up call needed!
Wanderlei doesn't sleep!
He waits.

this should be a ban hammer worthy statement!
Wand is the last living heir to Genghis Khan’s empire and a convicted axe murder. ……. and possibly the toughest man on earth.

This is why I love Wandy...
He will always stand by what he believes, without letting any personal BS get in the way. He chastised Chael Sonnen for disrespecting the Nogueiras, then backs him up in trying to reduce his suspension. Wanderlei Silva is a man of true substance.
I'm just a 16 year old kid who loves MMA.

Unrelated,
but I had to post it somewhere. I got introduced to someone today named ‘Antonio Nogueras’. Thought it was pretty funny.

does he look twice his age?

A year is too long??
I’m sorry but I just can’t agree with that. The guy cheated, knowingly I would assume. There’s really no need to turn Sonnen into a victim here. He lost twice. Once to Anderson and again against the drug test.
What other ways are there to prevent athletes from using PEDs?
I agree
but Wandy has a big heart :p

Well I'm not surprised he might say this
All the rumors that during the Pride days, many of the fighters were on roids or other PED’s to help them recover from the ridiculously compressed fight schedule they created.

the end of that video made me remember what Diogenes Assahida said in his radio interview regarding AS about two weeks ago
He was talking about Wandy back in the days, describing him as a nerdy looking kid with a long set of hair and how he would bike to the Chute Boxe gym and stay there hanging out asking to train. He started cleaning the gym daily until Diogenes finally decided to allow him to train there for free. Little did they know that their little geeky kid would turn out to be the biggest star they had, not to mention the biggest Brazilian star in MMA. WAR WANDY!

Sure a year may seem unfair
But Sonnen shouldn’t have cheated. Love me some Wandy though.

It seems so weird
That all these fighters refuse to bash Chael. Anderson won’t bash him; Wanderlei thinks his punishment is too harsh.
It’s almost like…like…nah. Nevermind.

the way I see it;
they won’t lower themselves to Chael’s level, they’re too much of a man for that…
the following two things are signs of weaknesses:
stay silent when it's needed to speak up, and speak up when it's needed to stay silent.
He hasn't had his trial yet either
The fighters aren’t like internet whiners who want him drawn and quartered without letting him sate his case in December.
After the trial is over I have no problem with people trashing him if he did take roids. At this point in time we don’t know what he took or why he took it or why he told the commission about it prior. Hes well known as a hard worker among fighters so theres still to many questions for the majority of fighters to attack him.
but they have all the ammo they’d need to put Chael on his place, but they choose not to (with the exception of Big Nog, who I don’t really blame given the stuff Chael said about him). Regardless of how the trial goes, I find it very hard for Chael to get cleared from the charges, he may lower the time of suspension, but not cleared. he had the stuff in his system, at the end of the day that’s called cheating IMO.

stay silent when it's needed to speak up, and speak up when it's needed to stay silent.
He’ll probably get the Sherk treament. 6 months.

well, all I have to say about that is...
naw, I’ll leave it alone

So you're saying
That all of the mentioned Brazilian fighters have gay crushes on Chael and are hoping he clears this PED trial and returns to the Oregon Republican party where all of them will move and vote for him so they can amend local tort law??? EVIDENCE PLEASE!
If i’m a little off base on this theory, please let me know what you were talking about so i’m clear.
Eh
Everybody insinuates this. Maybe they don’t want to be spiteful and fuck around in another fighter’s business. If I was a contractor and one of my competitors got busted for using undocumented labor I wouldn’t go to the press yelling about how he was a low life even if all of my workers from Kansas. It wouldn’t be my business.

Wait, what were you guys insinuating? I thought Farthammer was saying Wanderlei was backing him because he was also maybe juicing.

Its just because
These guys are true martial artists, they behave with honor & respect in their lives as well as their fights.

I would NEVER
make such a claim. That would be preposterous. I was just saying that…nevermind.

This is in other sports also
Athletes never want to say that another athlete deserves consequences that affect their money making ability.
It’s rare when football players say that their holding-out teammate should come into camp, for example.

I'm betting you wished you had more time to wait now.
Not going well.
I like Fedor, it’s just his fans that are intolerable...and his management.
Is that their record...
or the number of quarterbacks that survived the game?
Just joking, but that offensive line looked horrible. I suspect that Cutler had a concussion before that last sack, it would explain some of his slower reactions and strange decisions.
I like Fedor, it’s just his fans that are intolerable...and his management.
At least him being gone for a year
will give him some time to come up with some new material. I personally can’t wait
Naw dude...if you cheat you deserve it.
Bob Arum thinks I'm a white Nazi skinhead even though I'm a brown grad student (with hair)
Nodody suspended Chael from being a real estate agent, so the “impact on livelihood” argument doesn’t resonate so much.
This isn't a surprise...
Who doesn’t suspect Wandy of taking steroids in PRIDE? I agree though a year is too long but what do I know I really have never cared about people taking steroids in sports, do what you want to do if you can get away with it.
I really don't have an opinion on the length of suspension.
Because its a rather easy penalty to avoid, much like an arrest for drunk driving.
I like Fedor, it’s just his fans that are intolerable...and his management.
I fail to see
why people think a year is too long, my question is why aren’t other commissions punishing this harshly? Why do combat sports, which are arguably more dangerous then most take such a light stand on PED’s?
Maybe, and I'm just guessing, they...
are aware of just how flawed their ability to catch offenders is.
I like Fedor, it’s just his fans that are intolerable...and his management.
why
then does it seem the CSAC are the only ones to really catch any of them? I’m not expecting a specific answer here, just though I’d toss it our there for a discussion point.
This guy has a family and this guy needs to work
Something he should have thought about before taking roids. He knew the consequences and now must live by that.
a 6 month suspension would be silly , some fighters only fight twice a year anyways
noits like like chael couldnt train people and get paid for helpping other fighters casmps while he is suspended

Silva's logic is askew on the suspension of Sonnen. He should have received at least a five year suspension and a 25,000 dollar fine. Fighters like Sonnen ruin the sport of MMA.

The suspend fighter would be dropped from the UFC, Strikeforce, and WEC initially. They would have to fight in the league of King of the Cage, Japanese contests in Japan, and small backyard cards. Each year the fighter would be reevaluated and if clean, move up the rung. They would also have to begin paying into a MMA account and be paid up by the end of their suspension. Yeppers, that would be category that Barnett would fall into.
