UFC middleweight contender Alan Belcher expects to be back in action in 2011. His doctors say he should be able to resume contact training in January. But it was a very close call.
From MMA Weekly :
""It was actually kind of sporadic, but the doctor he’s not really sure if it was one blow or what, but for some reason I had some tears in my retina and it caused it to detach. I didn’t even realize anything was happening until I was down in Brazil training for the Demian Maia fight, and then all of a sudden just lost most of my vision in my eye," Belcher told MMAWeekly.com on Wednesday.
Not realizing the severity of the injury right away, Belcher ended up extending his stay in Brazil, although in retrospect he fully admits that was a mistake. Once he set foot back on American soil, he had to be rushed in right away for surgery on the injury that had career-ending potential.
"I came back and had to have emergency surgery," Belcher commented. "I had the first surgery and then it detached again about 5 weeks later, and I had to have another surgery."

Isn’t cerrone a 170 lber? That’s why I thought Catchweight. There is absolutely no reason for the fight besides it being awesome x1000

Man, this is great news. I was afraid he wasn’t going to be able to fight anymore. Good for him.

The sea refuses no river. The idea is to remain in a state of constant departure while always arriving. It saves on introductions and goodbyes. The ride does not require explanation - just occupance.

Very glad for him
The worst thing would have been for him to have to stop fighting because on an injury like that.
I hope he makes a 100% trouble free return, so I can get back to watching him kick ass and making fun of his tattoo.
CPG
Now if only he could make that turrible Cash tat go away all would be healed.

And totally not trying to be “that guy” or anything. But it stands out to me that when talking about someone’s eye, how do you know how to read the word tear in the right context? There’s no real rhyme or reason to it and you just have to know based on the context of the sentence that it was a “tare” in his retina and not a “teer” that caused the problem!

FUCK YAAAAAA!!!!!
Ladies and Gents best news in a long time!!!! Please Welcome back Alan “i’ll face plant ur monkey ass” Belcher!!!!!!!!!!
he should retire before he goes blind, not trying to be an asshole but a retinal surgery only works a few times.
I can’t see this ending well, a few punches to the eye and he may be looking at being permanently blind, I really wish there was a way he could get paid to not fight.
Fuck yes, can't wait to see Johnny Cash kiss another fighter goodnight.
