Hominick is a legitimate striker and not terrifically undersized. Maybe the value bet of the century.
Stick and move is not going to work on Aldo
Aldo is faster and is going to chop his legs. After that, fight is over.
Hominick is a good striker yeah
But I can’t see any way that he is possibly a better striker than Aldo. Aldo has both power and speed on him and I’m not sure I wouldn’t give Aldo technique too.
I don’t buy it. If Josh Grispi beats Eric Koch in November, I can’t see the WEC not giving him the next shot, considering his win streak and stoppages. Add in the fact that he holds a victory over Hominick and it’s a no-brainer that Grispi would get the shot first.
grispis 22
they might wanna give him a little more seasoning and keep aldo busy at the same time
"I have smoked weed with alot of UFC champions" - Joe Rogan
Yeah, what cocytus said. No way this has anything to do with it. My guess is that Aldo’s camp heard Hominick’s name in informal talks with the WEC and that nothing is official. I bet Grispi gets the shot if he beats Koch, and if he doesn’t, then Hominick gets the next shot.
Related: I also like Mike Brown against either Chad Mendes or Diego Nunes to get him back into contendership.
it makes sense since Ben Henderson is already fighting Pettis
I assume that if Aldo wins, and Ben wins then the next fight would be those two against each other.
theres no way
the WEC only has 3 divisions – you think they want 2 of the three belts tied up by one person? aldo will fight 155ers in the ufc before he fights benson
Don't know if Hominick has really earned the shot
But should be a helluva fight and Hominick could be a great upset pick.

HUH??
Grispi finished Hominick in the 1st Round and is undefeated in WEC 4-0 with victories over:
Jens Pulver
LC Davis
Michah Miller
Mark Hominick
all 1st round finishes
I think we should start putting disclaimers on some of these decisions...
Mark “The Machine” Hominick (19-8)

That could be like every Leonard Garcia fight, though.

That's cool.
All fighter wiki pages and profiles should all be adjusted with notes that reflect reality.
Garcia probably did more
slop boxing damage but come on. Hominick was very effective in point striking. Not that something like that could possibly work against Aldo.
I think you read his comment the wrong way
He’s saying that it should have been unanimous, not that Garcia was robbed. I think…
At first
I did too. I thought truck done lost his mind then I realized that he wanted to “reflect reality” as he stated.
"I will do nothing lightly. When I walk, I will walk heavily. When I fight, I will fight with conviction. When I speak, I will speak strongly. When I love, I will love with everything"
Can George Roop get one too, but with the disclaimer that MMA reffing is nonsense? I can’t for the life of me see how that kick hit Garcia’s groin.
This is an interesting choice if true
I love Hominick and i think he’d be a challenge for Aldo, but it’s not the logical choice of course with Grispi in the wings.
I think Grispi should be next but Hominick could be interesting.
This isn’t a knock against Aldo at all but his 3 title fights have been against guys that are good on the feet and have power but they are even better on the ground. Hominick is very much a strike first, worry about the ground later type of fighter. Be interesting to see how Aldo does against another striker. And by that I mean that I’m curious as to how long Hominick lasts and how Aldo will put him down.
I think it ends even faster than his previous outings
Hominick is going to be at a terrible, terrible speed disadvantage, and without even the threat of a takedown, Aldo is going to walk through him.
Tatum: I think he's a good man. I like him. I got nothing against him, but I'm definitely gonna make orphans of his children.

Aldo’s ground game is supposed to be stellar but we can’t be sure about this yet. A fighter with a strong grappling/wrestling game could at least try to capitalize on this. On the feet, we know. Aldo can break a lamppost with this shins and make an anvil cry with one punch.
Hominick will get murdered.
Well, anybody who knows me knows I'm no fan of dictionaries or reference books. They're elitist. Constantly telling us what is or isn't true. Or what did or didn't happen.
Aldo has the background
of a guy with great ground game. I think he even competed in BJJ for a few months before switching to full time MMA. (Might be mistaking him for someone else)
Yeah it is unproven though.
From here: http://www.wec.tv/JoseAldo
I also competed a lot in Jiu-Jitsu and submission grappling. I became world champion in Jiu-Jitsu as a brown belt. I even beat the current 3-time featherweight black belt world champion Rubens Charles “Cobrinha” in the semifinals that year. That was the last year I competed in Jiu-Jitsu, as my MMA career was picking up.
Beating Cobrinha is no small feat.
Here’s a link to Cobrinha’s wiki. Can’t find a link to the match itself, but on paper a win over him any time in the past few years is awesome.
He was something of a
BJJ prodigy, but made the move to MMA instead. To his supreme credit if its true, he also is reputed to train wrestling extensively.

From the same link
Training: I train jiu jitsu in the morning, alternating with wrestling, and in the afternoon I train my stand up and strength and conditioning. We also have great sparring sessions with some of the best guys you can get.
Then I have to put him in the same
category as I consider GSP and Jones already – guys who are good everywhere and elite in many areas, with no obvious, exploitable weaknesses.
With each guy I can look around their division and see no one who I would consider a significant favorite to beat them…

Jones? Nah he's getting there but not yet
I love the guy but I think he can still be subbed by an effective BJJ guy (why I think Machida would wreck him if they were to fight) and his striking could use work.
I really want Jones to face a non-wrestler
We have already seen how they get handled, Bader would be no different. I’ll take Lil Nog as Shogun Lite and we will see if those were feints or mistakes he has shown before…
Machida IMO is the one top LHW who could potentially give Jones fits, or vice-versa, or both…

I hope they do this fight in Ontario the crowd would be insane. But Grispi should get first crack because of the W over Hominick.

further proof the WEC doesnt have enough elite FW's for aldo.
So you’re telling me they offer omigawa a fight and then this is whats next for aldo? this is just borderline retarded. offer michi some good money for a title bout against aldo and then we’ll see a good fight.
tangentially...
So i was just checking Grispi’s record, and noticed he has a win over Spencer Paige (from the current season of TUF), so I checked Paige’s record and noticed he has a loss to Anthony “Cheesesteak” Morrison, so I checked out Morrison and found he also has a win over Jeff Lentz (from the current season of TUF)…
so, two of the guys that were selected to compete for a spot in the UFC’s 155lb division have lost to a guy who couldn’t hang in the WEC’s 145 division for more than 2 fights. TUF is pathetic.

Spencer Paige and Jeff Lentz both lost already though.
Though I actually think Spencer Paige has a decent chance of being brought back with the wild card fight.
I'm into this.
Hominick’s fight against Yves Jabouin was fight of the year IMO

What kind of odds are we going to see if this fight happens?
Aldo -1500, Hominick +900?
In the minds of most this has got to look more lopsided than GSP-Serra.
WEC is doing a bad job
when i read next challenger is Hominick, and all i think is “Who?”
I am sure a Grispi W over Eric Koch.......
Will earn him a well deserved title shot.
Also Manny vs. Omigawa would be sick as they both previously competed at 155 and both look better at 145.
Bring in Bibiano Fernandes from Dream they don’t pay him anyways.
