Going into this fight I think most people had Dan Hardy winning a decision through superior kickboxing. I personally thought this fight could be nothing but an absolute three round war. But then, Carlos went all Mick and Mallory with a left hook that dropped The Outlaw where he stood. The question now is, "What's next for The Natural Born Killer?" Carlos had some thoughts of his own at the post fight press conference:
"Well, um, you know, I'm definitely looking forward to seeing who wins that fight, between Kampmann and Shields. I fought both those guys, and you know, handed decisions to both of them and would like to get one of those back."
Being a huge Carlos Condit fan, I would love to see him avenge one of those losses. If Kampmann does in fact defeat Shields I could see Dana and Co. putting that fight together. If that fight went in Shields' favor the UFC would no doubt give Jake the next title shot.
So, aside from Kampmann or Shields, who's next? Jon Fitch should seriously be considered, and here's why. We all know what happens during a "Fitch Fight". A lot of Fitch taking his opponent down and administering mucho top control. But Condit has the mad scrambling ability to potentially nullify this, and as we saw last night he can knock your ass out, too. A fight with Fitch would raise concerns with the UFC brass about losing another potential title contender to the likes of Fitch, but for my money this fight makes the most sense.
Now, what say you? Talk amongst yourselves.
