UFC 120: Bisping vs. Akiyama - Results and Commentary

As with every major show, BloodyElbow.com will be here to bring you live results and commentary for UFC 120: Bisping vs. Akiyama.  The live blog will start with the beginning of the Spike TV broadcast (at 8 p.m. ET) so make sure to make Bloody Elbow your home for this event. 

As always we have our one rule: NO SPOILERS! In the interest of not ruining anything from the undercard that may make the broadcast we ask that you do not discuss the results of the undercard in the comments until either the broadcast ends or the fight makes the air.

This post will be SPOILER FREE. It will be placed at the top of Bloody Elbow before the start of the Spike broadcast and will be your place to talk about the fights as they hit the air in North America. Do not spoil any fights in the comments or you will be swiftly banned as we will have other posts where you can talk about the results.

The Spike broadcast is live, first fight up shortly.

Cyrille Diabate vs. Alexander Gustafsson - Round 1 - Diabate looking to work from range but Gustafsson is hitting some hard leg kicks. Right hand from Gustafsson and Diabate is hurt badly. Gustafsson goes to the ground on top of Diabate in half guard. Diabate manages to get to the feet. Gustafsson with a huge uppercut and a flurry that puts Diabate down. He's able to get back up though. Diabate landing some big shots now and Gustafsson takes it and fires back hard. Gustafsson on top on the ground landing hard shots and getting to side control. 10-9 round for Gustafsson close to 10-8.

Round 2 - Nice strikes by both and Gustafsson with the nice takedown into side control. Gustafsson looking for a kimura but instead ends up in mount. Diabate gives up his back and is almost choked but he survives. Now Gustafsson landing huge punches. Back to the choke, now back to the punches and now the choke again and the fight is over as Diabate is forced to submit. Alexander Gustafsson wins by submission (rear naked choke), round 2.

Cheick Kongo vs. Travis Browne - Round 1 - Browne lands a few hard punches through the round and wins it by rocking Kongo on multiple occasions. 10-9 Browne (sorry for the short description, had a brief power outage)

Round 2 - Leg kicks from Kongo and he lands two hard punches and an accidental low blow as he pushes him into the cage. Nice hard right by Kongo and a leg kick. Kongo tries for a big knee but Browne pushes him off and accidentally pokes him in the eye. Kongo opening up with some big punches now. Kongo pushing Browne into the cage but doesn't do much work so they're restarted. Kongo with some knees to the thigh. Browne with a takedown at the end of the round but Kongo clearly won that one 10-9.

Round 3 - Browne charges out and puts Kongo's back into the cage. Kongo grabs the shorts and the ref takes a point, yikes. Kongo looking for a takedown and can't get it. Hard shots to the body by Kongo and Browne is feeling them. Kongo looking for the takedown again but can't get it. He's grabbing the shorts again. They're restarted. Kongo opening up and landing big shots and avoiding the return fire from Browne. Right hand by Browne. Kongo again looking for the takedown. Takedown by Browne. The round ends and it should be 9-9, there is no doubt Kongo won that round but the point deduction makes it 9-9.

Official Scorecards: 28-28 draw across the board. The point deduction wrecked Kongo, his grabbing of the shorts was awful.

John Hathaway vs. Mike Pyle - Round 1 - Both men pawing with the jab early on. Pyle with a takedown and Hathaway is trying to power his way back to standing. Hathaway is on top now and Pyle is probably okay with it as long as they're on the ground. Back to standing now. Hook lands for Pyle. Nice two punch combo from Hathaway. Pyle with a right and now another right that briefly wobbles Hathaway.  Big right from Pyle again. Inside elbow now by Pyle. Knee to the body from Hathaway and Pyle responds with a left hand. They trade left hands. Pyle with a knee to the body and a nice trip takedown to top position. A little ground and pound and the round ends. 10-9 Pyle.

Round 2- Leg kick by Pyle and Hathaway with a body kick. Pyle pushing forward and landing some punches after a failed takedown attempt. Big right hand lands for Pyle now. Left hand by Hathaway lands hard. Hathaway coming on a little bit but Pyle with two big punches and now a great takedown to side control. Big elbow by Pyle lands very hard. Pyle into a mounted triangle and he's landing hard punches to the face of Hathaway. Pyle is just busting him up now. This is a great performance from Pyle. Big punches and elbows continue to land for Pyle. The round ends but that was a 10-8 round for Pyle in my book.

Round 3 - Body kick by Hathaway. Left hand by Pyle. Hathaway pushing in for the takedown against the cage but Pyle turns him and stays standing. Pyle is the one to get the takedown. Hathaway gets standing though so pule lands some knees to the legs and gets the takedown. Pyle on top and Hathaway is trying to land elbows but he needs a stoppage to win, he can't play off his back here. Hathaway throws up his legs and Pyle passes and gets half guard. Pyle trying to pass but Hathaway pulls him back into guard. Pyle standing to land some big punches and elbows now. Pyle just beat him in every area of MMA tonight. Tremendous gameplanning and execution by the veteran. 10-9 round for Pyle gives him a 30-26 win on my card.

Official Scorecards: 30-27 across the board for Mike Pyle. Mike Pyle wins by unanimous decision.

Dan Hardy vs. Carlos Condit - Round 1 - Condit with a pair of leg kicks and he misses a head kick. Hard leg kick by Hardy and he misses a head kick. Condit with an inside leg kick. This has been a round of almost exclusively leg kicks from both men through the first two minutes. Some left hands by Hardy now. Nice left hand by Condit now. Left hand by Hardy lands hard. Hardy landing a few nice punches and he's looking more comfortable. Nice combination by Condit and a kick to the body.  Huge punch lands by Condit and Hardy is out cold. Huge punch, HUGE. Carlos Condit wins by KO (punch), round 1.

Michael Bisping vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama - Round 1 - Big left hand by Akiyama lands very hard. Big right by Bisping now. Left hook by Akiyama now. Jab by Akiyama. Bisping is circling into the power again here just like he did against Henderson. Bisping with a hard body shot and a takedown but Akiyama stands up. Leg kick from Bisping and Akiyama says it was low but the ref tells them to fight on so Bisping lands a flurry of punches. Low blow from Akiyama and they continue through it. Nice one-two from Bisping and another overhand right. Another right hand by Bisping and he's really starting to find his rhythm. Leg kicks from Akiyama. Spinning backfist from Akiyama misses and they both laugh and touch gloves. Bisping is starting to walk forward and get some power on his punches. Flying knee and a punch from Bisping. He came back from eating an early punch to win the round 10-9.

Round 2 - Nice right by Akiyama and he's coming out hard. Straight right by Bisping. Body kick by Bisping. Right hand by Akiyama lands. They're both throwing and both landing. Accidental eye poke by Akiyama and they fight on. Hard one-two combo by Bisping. Nice right hand again by Bisping. Another right hand. Again Bisping fails on the takedown. Great right hand by Bisping and now a left. Overhand right by Akiyama. Right hand by Bisping hits hard and he has some steam on his punches tonight. Bisping with a spinning backfirst that misses but he hits the right hand. Left hand and a body kick and Bisping is just pulling away here. Nice right hand lands for Akiyama, his best of the round. Right hands still landing for Bisping. Akiyama with a hard punche after two hard shots from Bisping. 10-9 Bisping easy there but Akiyama closed out the round well.

Round 3 - Akiyama throws a huge punch that misses. Bisping with a big flurry and a hard head kick and now some big right hands. Akiyama is hurt. Right hand again for Bisping. Bisping continuing to land and Akiyama is still hurt. Low blow by Bisping lands very hard and Akiyama drops. Break in the action. They start back up now. Body kick by Bisping. Akiyama with a left hand and Bisping with a knee to the body. Hard one-two again and now he unloads. Bisping is landing that right hand all night long. Bisping is really letting his hands go tonight and he's landing at an incredible clip. Bisping with a head kick and a right hand. Akiyama flurries at the end of the round but doesn't land much of substance. 10-9 Bisping for the clean sweep.

Official Scorecards: 30-27 across the board. Michael Bisping wins by unanimous decision.
