I would not right off Browne as mediocre just yet.

For one, the guy hasn’t lost yet. Secondly, in his debut fight in the UFC he completely demolished McSweeney, both on the feet and on the ground. Personally, I was really impressed with his performance, and I am really intrigued to see how he does in this fight.

Which is why he is a perfect gatekeeper.

He smashes mid-level guys, but gets smashed by guys with a legit championship-level talent. If Kongo beats Browne, chances are Browne is just another guy with a gaudy ‘minor league’ record. If Browne beats Kongo, chance are he can make some real noise in the division.
